  1. I didn't have any trouble earlier today with the download. I did have to go to the GD for CM site rather than the direct link in the first post. The rusty track links are nice!
  2. Michael, I have been looking around for references and all I have found so far is this: There was only one company of Tigers with GD at Kursk, the 13th Co of Pz Rgt GD and they all had turret numbers starting with "S". After the co was expanded to a Tiger Battalion, the companies used A,B,C and the battalion command tanks kept the S. Strangely, it appears that only Das Reich and Totenkopf used the special Kursk signs, along with the 6th and 19th Pz Divisions, the 6th using the 3 lines like Totenkopf and the 19th using the 2 lines with a bottom horizontal line like DR, possibly a different color. Anyone else with more info?
  3. The green-striped Tiger really fits in well with the other popular german tank mods out there. Nice job. Just a couple of notes. The GD option bmp has the 2nd SS PG Div. "Das Reich" doppelrune Kursk marking on it along with the GD "helmet". I also think that the Tigers of the GD never carried the familiar helmet unit symbol. The sPz 505 "cavalier" was only painted on the turret side. An earlier "snorting bull" looking thing was painted on the front. But I really like it. As much as I like KwazyDog's Tiger for the detail, I never thought the colors went very well with the Fernando's and others mods. Thanks
  4. Nice pics. Odd that the first site is about the Pz Rgt GD but that is a "Das Reich" Tiger with Kursk markings.
  5. Scipio, Check out this link: Dragon 41st AIR Figure Yes, it is an action figure, but Dragon is pretty rigorous with their research. I also have some B and W photos of this uniform. The 41st was part of the 2nd Armored Division and appears to have worn these uniforms for the first few months they were in France. Supposedly, the concern was that they might be mistaken for Waffen SS camo and shot at so they changed to standard uniforms.
  6. As someone who only plays against the AI, I usually find scenarios less than 40 turn s to be the most fun. Two main reasons: 1. As WWB said, I enjoy the challenge as the attacker of having to achieve my victory conditions in a limited time. 2. Whether i am on the offense or defense, I find that most battles tend to kind of "wind down" after 30 or so turns. If I am defending against the AI, it no longer has the forces to take VLs, or as the attacker I may have all or most of the VLs and don't have the ability or the motivation to hunt down every last enemy unit. The big exception to all this is when reinforcements come in later in a battle, in which case the number of turns that seems right is directly related to that. All this to say I really enjoy your scenarios Wild Bill!
  7. I have a photo of the 37mm Pak with the Steilgranate 41 attached and it has large fins and tapers from a big "head". I will post the pic (from The Battle of Kharkov,Jean Restyan, just published by JJ Fedorowicz) if my isp will cooperate. i had really never heard of this combination weapon until BoB, but since it exists, it seems like the type of light support weapon FJs might have had. By the way you can just make out the 17th SS Gotz von Berlichingen PG Division unit symbol on one of the "Stugs" in episode 3, see here:17th SS Pg OK, here is the photo: The book this is from is a superb rare photo collection from the Kharkov battles 42-43. As far as Bob, I think they have done very nice attention to detail so far. I have to think the Jagdpanther was intended to be a Stug or Marder in that fight and will show up later when it is more appropriate. 8. Well, since this thread is still open. I have looked all over the Wargamer.com site and can't find the demo. Can anyone tell me where I can get it? Thanks
  9. A little more research shows a photo captioned as being just after the final action of the DR Tiger Co in very late 1943 and the gnome is clearly visible but definately the early model Tiger I. Unlike the SS tigers, the GD Tiger Co stayed as part of GD for the duration so that is a possibility for a mod too. Of interest, the late 1943 photos I refer to also have the Kursk DR division tactical symbol "Doppelrune" as well.
  10. One source, "Tigers in Combat II" states the symbol was in use from Kursk until the end of 1943. That was what I suspected after I read your post but before I had a chance to look it up. The main reason it was dropped after that is I suspect, related to Jason's comments about the removal of the SS Tiger companies as organic parts of the SS Panzer Divisions and the creation of Schwere Panzer Abteilungen. So I would guess it would be safe to assume it was seen in the late summer and fall battles on the East Front in 1943, but not present when Das Reich was in the west.
  11. The "Mini Campaigns" are designed for play against the AI and are a lot of fun. You can get them at Tom's CMHQ here: Mini Campaigns
  12. What they said... Also, you can go to this site: M3DZone and download a program called "NVmax" and go to the DirectX menu then "database options" then check the "FlushAfterBiltEnable" option. This has fixed the problem for me running Win98SE and a Visiontek Geforce 3. I don't know if it helps in WinME or 2K. At the moment the site is down for "repairs" but you should go to the left side menu and click on "files", then "video cards", then "tools" to get to the current "build" version 2053. For some reason, the newer beta versions don't have the "database" option. Also, with that good a system, if you have a good, big monitor you could just turn FSAA off and crank the resolution up which I think does as well as FSAA, at least for CM. Good luck
  13. Andrew, Please send those Volksturm uniforms off to someone for download. They are great, just like the rest of your uniform mods and I have a VS scenario I whipped up a long time ago and I really want to dust it off and play it with your mod!
  14. There are separate bmps for Heer and SS except for the helmet 5015. 5019 is the side bmp for the Heer uniform. You can copy 5029 and rename it 5019 for the missing file in the mod download.
  15. Yes, I just figured that out too. You can copy 5029 and rename it 5019 and the Heer troops are ready to go!
  16. The fieldgrey set is missing file 5019.bmp. This is the jacket side. I really want it because the uniforms are superb!
  17. I used the current non-beta version (2053) because the beta versions did not have the database option. I continue to have no problems with text with FSAA on (geforce3 and Win98).
  18. Very nice mod Scipio, I hope we see more "visual' mods from you.
  19. Really nice work Scipio, now my Heer troops are as well dressed as the SS!
  20. Very nice Scipio and Maximus, Maximus, is your retouched version available somewhere or could you e-mail it to me? Or as a last resort, tell me what you did to the original.
  21. Thanks Wittmann25, I got a visiontek GeForce3 for father's day, (yes, I told my wife I couldn't wait until tomorrow) and as expected, had the same text scrambling I had with my GeForce 256 when I turned on FSAA. I am running Win98se but the NVMAX fix took care of my text problem. I don't think us GeForce/Win98 users have had the flicker and white text problems but I definately had the scrambled text in the unit window and the unit details boxes so thanks! M3DZone looks like a good site.
  22. Lawyer: I dumped the new mods into a copy of my current heavily modded folder. The only problem I came across is the dirt roads. I had a rather gray road from somewhere and there is one file, 600 I believe in Magua's mod that is brown. I just got the other dirt road files off the CD and it looks fine. I couldn't bear the thought of having to find all the vehicle, uniform mods etc I had installed!
  23. Anyone with a bad bitmap 325, you can download it with the buildings file from here: Magua Normandy Files I don't know if the speckles in the tree bases are intended or not. maybe Magua can tell us. [ 06-16-2001: Message edited by: highlife ]
  24. My 325 is fine but I downloaded File 4 from CM Outpost so maybe the problem is in the file Manx has but not DraGoon's.
  25. Lawyer, the skies are included in pack 6 for subdued terrain and as a separate file for the non-subdued. SS Peiper, I sent you bmp 325.
