  1. What, are we supposed to consider you and the mighty peng to be the pregenitors then?? HAH!, I, a lowly squire, albeit the senior squire here (why are all those little rodents kicking and biting my ankles??) laugh at this ludicrous suggestion. I would suggest that you two more closely resemble the old, retired species, rapidly approaching extinction. Totally inward looking, talking in obscure parables, and huddling around old, burned out stars for warmth, totally bemused buy the younger, more vigourous races now inhabiting your galaxy. ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G [This message has been edited by Roborat (edited 03-23-2001).]
  2. Actually, Hamsters, while you did sponsor Priest, You sponsored me while in your Meeks persona, so I submit: Multiple personalties equals multiple squires. Besides, didn't someone else have two squires at the same time? ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  3. I'm guessing a car freak. ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  4. My sentiments are similar, this will likely be a twitch fest, however, it may work, I am willing to give it a chance (waiting for the open beta). And Hi Dad!! ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  5. S****, is this game ever going to end!! Or is it really some kind of never-ending purgatory, or a really weird outer limits episode?? ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  6. I guess I should pick up the pace then, I only have three going. Any takers???, Care to challenge my perfect record ( I haven't won a game yet, nor does it look like I'm going to in the ones in progress either). ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  7. Quiet you guys!!!, or else Gunny Bunny while hear about this, and the next thing you know, he will be demanding that CM2 be optimized for this card, thus forcing everybody to upgrade their computers -OOps, too late, I just noticed his post here. ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G [This message has been edited by Roborat (edited 03-02-2001).]
  8. What's that?? do I hear some faint squeaking? Hey Kitty, I think one of your hamsters is loose again. I think Dalem was doing some felching again. Oops, I was wrong, it's not one of yours, it sounds like some insignificant, diseased little back-alley rodent, trying to appear bigger and tougher than it really is, in a pathetic attempt to scare away some predator. Well, stuffedfullofhimself, IF YOU HAD THE BRAINS, AND MORE THAN ONE HAND FREE TO DO A LITTLE SEARCH, you would be aware that I have been here since midway through the original incarnation of this thread. I fact, I think I was one of the first "newbies" to be grabbed as a squire, as a visit to Loraks site would have indicated. I am currently locked in a death struggle with Captain Foobar in a squire match, using some sadistic Knniiggiitts perverison of a setup, and where we are well on our way to setting the record for the longest PBEM in CM history. So, just crawl back under whatever rotting dockyard sewer you crawled out of, you insignificant little gnat, or I will be forced to dig out the thesaurus and really give you a verbal thrashing. And by the way, Tamiya generally makes the best and most detailed models available, much better than that Airfix and Matchbox trash that merry olde england keeps spewing out. ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  9. What is wrong with you people, this post is just one thread from being relegated to the second page, good thing I stumbled in. Back to the top you go, that's a good thread. ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  10. Oh, come on now, the last thread only lasted a week, I haven't even had time to get a decent sunburn, and now we are in Pommyland!!!, in the winter yet!, I can practically hear the mildew growing already. Goodbye sun, see you in a few weeks. Maybe we can flood this one with posts so we can move somewhere warm again. ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  11. Great post, funniest thing I have read in a loooong while. Thanks. I was actually LOL so loudly I woke up the wife in the next room. ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  12. What's this doing on page three, back to the front you! sidenote, how come I get abused for paraphrasing Neitchze, but Peng can do it??? ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  13. Hey, don't forget our WWII era 105mm towed arty either. It may have just gotten newer barrels, but it is essentially the same gun. But it works, so why change for the sake of change only, I haven't seen much newer stuff that is any better. And that helmet pic, he should have used the one with the tinted visor, very cool looking. New winter kit is excellent, but now we need decent winter boots! ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  14. CRIST, how much ammo and fuel can a jeep carry, anyway?!?!? Or maybe the chow wagon was serving beans on toast that day. ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  15. Awww, isn't it just soooo cute, makes me want to flatten him like a spider beneath my American Standard dictonary (unabridged, of course). Can we keep him, he kind of reminds me of hiram, who I do miss so much, maybe roadkill here could be his replacement?? Besides, it would be so much fun to see those naive, walt disney animal eyes recoil in shock and horror as we teach him the true meaning of life in the 'pool. And he is so much more entertaining than that Dork of the Rings nerd who briefly fell in here. As an aside, sorry it took so long to check in (as if anybody even noticed), but I was away for a week, and it took another few days to catch up. Is it my imagination, or are the intervals between the pool getting evicted getting shorter and shorter, that last one didn't have that many posts in it yet. Well, it's quitting time, so I guess I can stop pretending to work and go home now. Who knows, I may even get some turns out. And Meeks, my leige, it would be such jolly fun to get annihilated by you again, but I don't have ICQ, and don't see you hanging around the usual spots, so how does one hook up with you???? ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  16. Hey, gerbiltoy, do a little research and find out why they call it the White House, before you go and cast aspersions on Canada's miltary ability. We are the only ones to have invaded the U.S., and we kicked some serious ass. ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G [This message has been edited by Roborat (edited 02-14-2001).]
  17. Way back in prehistoric times (1986) I worked at the Syncrude tarsand mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta. I was a highwall monitor, maintaining safety for the draglines in the mine. We were called slope rats. I was in the habit of always wearing a pair of tinted, mirrored safety glasses that looked like the visor on Robocop, even when indoors. Hence, I became Roborat. Ever since then, when I needed a virtual name, I have used it, as I thought it was unique and unlikely to be duplicated, which generally held true until recently. I use this in UT, various half-life mods, etc. Sidenote, my son uses Robomouse and my daughter Robokitty, so if you see these names on a server, we are playing together from a networked home computer system, so we can coordinate attacks, etc., so watch out! Now that I have established my claim to the name, all you bastards using MY name in various forums can piss off, it's mine! I had it first. I have even had to use roborat1st and other variations in some places. Stupid lamos, dream up your own line, and stop stealing mine. The original Roborat has spoken. ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  18. Interesting point, I was going by standard Canadian methods, and since we use the same towed 105s as in WWII, and from what I have been able to learn, things haven't changed much from then. the SOP is to adjust with HE for location, then one or two VT ot time to set burst height. And in setting up "TRPs", they don't generally offset too far away. I will have to do some more digging on these matters, there are a few old timers I can check with.
  19. Roborat I am not pretending to know how it works in RL, and your tip has value, as it is probably safer to be in a crater than in the open, but I don't think that your remark holds true in theory. The system has no memory, so assuming the crater is not the effect of a spotting round (in which case the gun gets recalibrated), the chances of a shell falling anywhere in the designated area should be the same. It's like saying that a person who's won the lottery won't win it again. Well, it's probably true, but in theory completely wrong. Regards I agree, I was referring to IRL, for the game, since it doesn't model craters (as far as I can tell), you can't hide in them anyway. But that is SOP, in training, we were told that, if caught in the open in a barrage, if there is no cover, find the nearest impact crater to hide in. Statistically, you should not get hit again. But again, I mentioned that it is not as good in heavy barrages with lots of guns, i.e. typical Warsaw pact take out the grid square method. From what I have seen from visiting impact areas, I don't remember seeing too many impact craters overlapping each other. [This message has been edited by Roborat (edited 02-08-2001).]
  20. (engage whiney voice mode) Germany? Germany!!, I don't wanna go to Germany!, The men all smell like sausage and the women are the size of winnebagos and frankly, they scare me. (whine mode off) Gosh, what a strange place. There appears to rules for everything, and rules for reading the rules according to the rules, I'll bet.
  21. I would like to see more realistic and flexible artillery modelling, for fire patterns, etc. And a foo that can move withoout screwing up the fire mission. And a foo who can stay hidden and direct fire. Basically a reworked artillery model.
  22. ...Fee, Fie, Foe, Fum, I smell the blood of a cesspoolian. At this the mighty bald one reached deep into his pants and whipped out...
  23. No, they are not going to waste expensive MT/VT or any other fuses on setting up a TRP, they would use good old contact fused HE, it's the cheapest and most common fuse. Besides, with an airburst, how would the foo see well enough to adjust. Even when they are shooting VT they adjust with HE. And yes, if you wander into an area and see a few fresh craters, without an obvious target, you might want to shift over a bit, really quickly. ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  24. mildthing, those sites are truely disturbing. But what is infinitely more disturbing is the fact that you found them. Who in their right mind would look for something like that???? Hey Mr. NZer, get away from that animal for a minute, I have a question for you (or any other kiwi in the pool). ... Oh!, a goat huh, graduated from sheep to the hard stuff have you? Anyway, I was looking at my calender today and it said something about today being Waitangi Day. What the hell is that. Is it like Sadie Hawkins Day or something? Maybe it's that on one day a year the sheep get to be on top? ------------------ "With cat-like tread, Upon our prey we steal; In silence dread, Our cautious way we feel." -G&S
  25. As for the point about the rounds being muffled by the mud. Weren't WWII rounds point detonating?, they wouldn't be affected all that much by mud if they were. If your memory of arty is those old WWI films showing huge gouts of dirt being tossed up in the air, don't forget that WWI arty rounds were base detonating, triggered by the round flattening enough to trigger the charge on the back of the round. For point detonating, with the fuse in the nose, it wouldn't be affected (..."much"...) by the ground being a little softer, the fuse is pretty sensitive, at the speed the round is travelling, it doen't even discriminate between ground and water, remember those naval films, rounds hitting the water still explode, don't they?.
