  1. I gently removed the CMBO disc from the drive where it used to be the last two years. A tear ran down my cheek as I slowly put it in a jewel box with Tom's CMBO cover. Never thought I'd need it one day. We had a great time. But all things finally come to an end.

But then, we'll always have Paris...

    *sniff*

[edit: wohooo! that was my 1001st post! What do I get now? A cookie? A babe? A bald head? :D ]

Wrong impression. This is from the CMBO license but I'm sure it's still valid for CMBB:

  3. Flamingknives, well spoken. I'm currently playing a PBEM and am using the dreaded 'Waffengrenadiere'. Does it ruin the game for me?

    No.

To tell the truth, I'm hardly noticing it. I really can't understand all the fuss about this topic. We are talking about two damn' letters in a game that is so huge I hardly scratched the surface in a week.

And BlackZed, I don't think BFC will offer a patch/a download for the US exe. Why? They have stated several times they wouldn't do it.

Must be something about 'contracts', 'laws', 'business' and that stuff.

In the level with the church there's one hidding in the patch of woods next to the factory.

And they have another easteregg in the level with all the russian tanks. Move one of Panzer-thingies along the street , once it reaches the intersection you'll notice a little flash under the Panzer-thingie and a new infantry unit will spawn under it.

It got only pistols, so you should grap a better weapon as soon as possible.

  5. I think what you saw was the use of minedogs by conscript russians.

During the war many russian soldiers lacked the extensive training required to train minedogs using Pavlovian reflexes and instead used rather rude techniques. Often they simply strapped a AT mine onto a (preferable) small dog and threw the dog/mine combo at german AFVs.

During the course of the war, the soviet army used smaller and smaller dogs, enabling them to be thrown at more distant targets. The pinnacle of this developement was reached in October '44 when a 25kg AT mine was strapped on a lend-lease Chihuahua.

Results were less than satisfactory and the next series abandoned the use of dogs altogether.

  6. Hehe, this seems to be mainly a US problem. ;)

A game about WWII were the US don't play the main role? WHAT?? But, but...

I rememember all the discussions about the flightsim "Il2 Sturmovik". A truely outstanding sim covering the eastern front, but many US guys constantly begged for P-51s and P-47s.

I have to say that I think the "...if it ain't american it ain't interesting..." attitude is quite narrow-minded IMHO.

Hey, time to broaden your horizont! ;)

Although I can understand that some may not feel too comfortable with languages they don't understand. On the other side I really like to listen to the russian voices, and I think I already understand some of them. I'm sure someone will post a translation of the russian voice files soon.

  7. I never really understood why people would base their opinion of games on the fact if "their" country was represented or not.

I liked to command japanese armies in 'Shogun-Total War', commanded french privateers in 'Pirates' and killed hundreds of t-72s in a US M1a1. I engage german armour in my trusty Il2 Sturmovik and built a chinese empire in CivIII. I've fought the Luftwaffe in a Hurricane and engaged B-17s in a 109.

I killed Tigers in Normandy with my brave polish troops and took cemetery ridge with Picket's men.

I care for my virtual Russians the same I do for my Panzergrenadiers, Canadians or Romanians.

I couldn't care less what country I'm 'fighting for' in a computer game as long as it's immersive, interesting and gives me a challenge.

    Just my 0.2 $

No. The game I played vs Andreas was a QB were we both picked our own forces. He could see my forces using the 'setup-cheat' and I could see his forces, not only the map.
  9. Marcus, I'm sure none of the guys I'm playing used this little cheat. And since I don't play on ladders or in tournaments it's really no big deal for me.

If someone wants to cheat, he'll always find a way. In the end all he does is cheat on himself.

And you're right, if someone needed to cheat in order to win I'm sure I'd kick his a$$ anyway... :D

  10. Again, thx for your posts, Madmatt.

BTW Andreas is using the german mac version, I'm using the german PC version.

I didn't know that this was already possible in CMBO so it came as a big surprise for me. And then thess beta-testers who don't use PWs... Everybody's trying to confuse me! ;)

I very much appreciate the dedication you all show again and again. If it's possible, maybe you could add another process for the PBEM setup. With many games lasting several weeks I wouldn't mind one or two extra files.

Kerry: no, it happens when you buy your forces, too.
