Clash of Eagles, last night: <possible spoiler> i noticed jabos laying waste to something i couldn't see in the road at the far end of the board. working my way up to the end of the main road I noticed German tanks in the back of the hill. I set my artillery to blast it(240mm, 105mm, 81mm for the copius infantry). the jabos took care of them, strafing bombing, fring rockets, knocking out all 4 tanks. end result: my tanks and troops go in and annihilate the infantry. the jabos knocked out or caused to be abandoned behind the hill:stug, some H something tank, 2 tigers. they took out 4 half tracks at the far road, and 2 panther IV's. dang it all, logistics logistics logistics logistics logistics logistics... if the germans invaded with fishing boats, rafts, barges, and/or rowboats they would be doomed. that's why there was no recovered tanks, they could only take troops. just how many would survive it to shore? and how would you carry tanks and artillery and stuff? not enough transport, i feel, means easy to destroy landing craft/fishing boats/yachts. amphibious assualt is one of the hardest things to do in war because the invasion force is vulnerable in the boats, on the beach before they can establish a foothold and before they get additional heavy equipment and armor. the german navy would not provide that much support(certainly not the thousands of guns the allies had avaliable)... i got an elite army of a waffen ss infantry rushing against 8 veteran shermans. the shermans kept a fairly steady rate of machinegun fire but didn't fire their cannon. why is that? the ss rush was freaky, like ants swarming(i put ~300% points for the ss and normal 1000 points for the tanks) so i dont know why they would be reluctant to let loose. plus when they got close, the tanks would move in towards the infantry instead of backing off using a standoff advantage. and the ss guys ran all the way across the field but most sat right next to tanks and didn't do anything... any explanations ------------------ "They had their chance- they have not lead!" - GW Bush "They had mechanical pencils- they have not...lead?" - Jon Stewart on The Daily Show

i love what-if?'s. wwii had a lot of them... what if... hitler hadn't stopped at dunkirk? well big loss for the allies, but britaon would still stand: you need to deal with the RAF and Royal Navy. so what if... the brits lose the battle of britain? not too horrible. britain gets bombed until new factories and airfields can be brought to bear. germany had nothing good to transport troops across. it took the us and britain to build enough LSTs for the invasion. there was talk of towing river barges, but one storm, and it would be the brits celebrating the divine wind, not the japanese. and those great bug boats would make fat targets for any brit artillery. ok but what if... russia fought alone? germany still had a lot of ground to cover. the allies were sending stuff to them to kill the germans. btw, was the second front delayed so more russians could be killed? i thought the wait was because of weather, deception, landing craft shortage, and mulberry construction. ------------------ "They had their chance- they have not lead!" - GW Bush "They had mechanical pencils- they have not...lead?" - Jon Stewart on The Daily Show

well, in the korean war there were no obvious gov lies or misleading statements: ie the vietcong are defeated, and then a massive assualt on all the major cites happens, even piercing to the US embassy.
