Whats the point in getting a division at the scene when they will get clobbered by any real tank/armor force? Why cant the UN do this low intensity crap? UN reaction forces should be stationed close to all hot spots. They can react quickly. That cluck shinaki is going to destry the US armored forces in 10 years. The show made no sense and made me sick. Lewis

it probably doesn't help that we (the us) don't pay our dues in a timely manner. the problem with our bad-ssed armor is that it too armored. NOT a bad thing in combat("death before dismount"), but getting it anywhere is a big hassle. i read in a sci-tech magazine that said the us would have had trouble in serbia because most bridges couldn't hold the weight of an m1a1. i don't think we should abandon our armored cav units for the lighter units(especially since battle sims showed a 1:1 loss ratio instead of 10:1 for the us), but it does show a need for something new. ------------------ "They had their chance- they have not lead!" - GW Bush "They had mechanical pencils- they have not...lead?" - Jon Stewart on The Daily Show

 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: Sorry about my tone earlier, I get a bit upset if someone says that I am insinuating that he is stupid (normally if I think it I either say it directly or not at all). I think there is just a misunderstanding on what we were talking about. My fault for not being clearer to start with. And before I forget to clarify - I do not think you don't know what you are talking about and I do not think that your opinion on what could have happened is stupid or wrong.

great, glad we cleared the air. ------------------ "They had their chance- they have not lead!" - GW Bush "They had mechanical pencils- they have not...lead?" - Jon Stewart on The Daily Show
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: You suggest teaching them something about why the last 50 years did not happen in a particular way that you have dreamed up

acutally i didn't say anything about teaching. i was just arguing with your point that the soviet-german consequences were not comparable with the pacific war consequences. (that's why i mentioned it a lot ) i'm sorry if i mis read your post. but i am not trying to make science fiction, i am saying that the winning of the PTO prevented a lot of BAD global consequences, and is thus comparable to the ETO. thanks for your time. ------------------ "They had their chance- they have not lead!" - GW Bush "They had mechanical pencils- they have not...lead?" - Jon Stewart on The Daily Show
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: My answer to that question would be 'no', BTW. Have a close look at the political system in Japan during the 1930s and you may agree with me. I was talking about the cold war, and not about now. Japan only became so rich because of the cold war and the potential for a Nato-WP conflict in Europe. Have a look at the Japanese economic miracle and where it started - the Korean war was the trigger. You are not honestly trying to tell me that Japan would have had the potential to become a long-term threat to the US like the Soviet Union?

ummm, yeah. massive fleets, aleutian islands base to threaten alaska, huge amount of oil and resources from any conquered territories, control of pacific trade routes and resources. the asian economic tigers would not have developed, or if they did, they'd benefit japan. japan may have had a screwed up inefficient governmental system, but then the soviets' system was not exactly a paragon of model governmental structure.
quote:
The main point here is that no matter how many flights of fancy about what Japan could have become

the fact that japan was defeated IS of massive "geo-strategic consequences" that i can compare to "the war between the Germans and the Soviets". it may have not been more important but i am comparing the two.
quote:
the cold war was reality, and to understand it you have to know some things about the history of Europe

thank you for implying i am some ignorant who doesn't know or understand anything about the history of europe. i actually know a little bit more than the average person on the street about european history during and after wwii. please do not assume things about me, and i won't do the same to you. then we can have a civil discussion on european history. being a jingostic american my favorite parts are the marshall plan, the berlin airlift, and the truman doctrine. (truman was my fave president) by the way, i am not saying the eastern front was insignificant, or even necessarily disagreeing that it was more important than the pacific war. but i am disagreeing with you that it was not comparable to the eastern theater. ------------------ "They had their chance- they have not lead!" - GW Bush "They had mechanical pencils- they have not...lead?" - Jon Stewart on The Daily Show

 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: To compare the geo-strategic consequences of the war between the Germans and the Soviets with what happened in the Pacific is quite wrong.

ummmm, while seeing germany defeated and western europe is cool let's look at the ramifications of a defeated japan: japan: one of the largest and most prosperous deconomies in the world. a democracy. sixth most powerful military even at military spending capped at 1% GDP. south korea: democracy, our fifth? largest trading partner. NOT under japan colonialship. china: NOT under japanese dominion. dictatorship but may or may not be heading towards some reform in the very long term future. also, two certain people born before and during wwii were not killed by the japanese, and i was born some thirty years later. if i was somehow born anyway, i would not have to grow to be some japanese soldier's target practice during his lunch break. bunch of other asian countries: NOT under japan's thrall. russia: don't really have to sweat a massive land invasion from a powerful asian country...well the chinese handle that today, but only because of numbers. the japanese army in this alternate timeline would probably be pretty anxious to get some revenge on their former butt whooping against russia and have massive resources. and all that land and new resources of russia would be tempting... in other words while asia is some far off exotic land that doesn't look like it affects us, a victorious japan would have military bases all over the pacific, basically controlling all the trade routes. that would have a bit of an adverse effect on our(US) economy and our defensive posture in hawaii, alaska, and midway probably. harnessing the economic resources of all the asian countries it conquered under its belt, it would have a huge military, meaning the us would have had to face a second cold war front, not just the russians. if their trend of superships continued, the us would be facing nagumo class supercarriers, missile cruisers that would put the kirov to shame, and some advanced fighters as well. could japan not turned out to be the military dictatorship colossus i painted here? yeah, but because the allies won, that question will never have to be answered. so a huge and powerful dictatorship was avoided in the pacific. the chinese of today is probably 1/3 the enemy a victorious japan would be. oh yeah, and my parents could immigrate over to the us to raise a jingostic american... ------------------ "They had their chance- they have not lead!" - GW Bush "They had mechanical pencils- they have not...lead?" - Jon Stewart on The Daily Show

 16. i did a couple searches, but 'sound', 'wav', and 'add sounds' just brought up some irrelevant posts from the '99... i added my wav of me shouting an encouraging warcry recorded from windows 98 sound recorder. when i went to the game and waited for the appropriate time to hear it, all i got was a very shortened aqueal and crackle for about a second. my warcry was about 3 or 4 seconds. what can i do to fix this? ------------------ "They had their chance- they have not lead!" - GW Bush "They had mechanical pencils- they have not...lead?" - Jon Stewart on The Daily Show
