1. I have not had a machine to play in a few months and have lost track of the number of mods, and he method for using them. Do we still backup .bmp and .wav directory, and then unzip new mods into the correct directory? What about a mod faq? Thanks Andy
2. The Black Watch and Lucknow band performed in Houston last week and I was lucky enough to see them. It was a great night with a disappointing crowd, but the guys were very impressive and friendly. I encourage anyonw who is interested in Military bands or the music of the U.K. to go check them out. It embarrasses me that the American culture that most of the rest of the world sees is Madonna, RAP, and "Dallas." ------------------ Always with the negative waves, Moriarty.
3. I do not know how many of you are planning to buy B-17 2 this fall, but there was a major development the other day. The TCP/IP Multiplayer was removed after having been advertised, and the story was broken before the companies developing and distributing could release the news themselves. Many people had invested tons of time and effort to creating virtual bomber and fighter groups, and WHAMMO all down the tubes. It also looks as if support after the release may be an issue and the developer has changed hands in the interim. I thought Atomic was bad. Ouch ------------------ Always with the negative waves, Moriarty.
4.
quote:
Originally posted by Dar: How can you include "Full Metal Jacket" in this thread? That's one of the best war movies of all time! The boot camp sequence is especially the best. Dar

My father was a Marine between Korea and Vietnam and always gets pissed off whenever "Full Metal Jacket" is mentioned. He hates the movie. He said the boot camp sequence is about 80% crap. At best it is an outsiders impression of the Corps. At worst ... well you can guess. Just look at "A ClockWork Orange" to see Kubrick go over the edge trying to make a point. Does anyone remember an old Mel Gibson movie set in the Pacific? They have to rescue someone from a plane crash on an island occupied by the Japanese. I seem to remember the letter Z in the title. Task Force Z? Definitely a stinker! Gallipoli was much better. Pretty much all the war movies with John Wayne made me laugh, even though I loved the guy. What about "Hell is for Heroes" , with Steve McQueen? I hated the MJ Fox movie about Vietnam with Sean Penn. ------------------ Always with the negative waves, Moriarty.

6. I agree completely. I hated "Melrose Space!" And I hate what has happened to the MI and the ideas in the novel. That is why I am skeptical of the upcoming Tolkien and Card movies. ------------------ Always with the negative waves, Moriarty.
7. Anyone have any suggestions for small unit microarmour rules? I am interested in single vehicle/squad-company level actions. I also remember seeing rules for simulating Axis fighter v. Allied bomber formations. Anyone remember or help me find any suitable products? Thanks ------------------ Always with the negative waves, Moriarty.
8. I have to agree with some of what was stated in the opening post, but like anyone's opinion, mine included, you can't generalize on such a topic and have any hope of being entirely correct. I am a citizen of the United States, and relatively proud of my country and our legacy. That said, the United States has as much dirty laundry as any other world power, and more than many. For every generous act there are acts of malice and greed. Our country has be favored by geography, resources and timing. Some times we have handled our position with grace and dignity, and other times we have acquited ourselves terribly. This is the country that exports cultural gems such as Hooters and McDonalds to the rest of the world while being capable of helping in many more important and meaningful ways. (I will never get over the feeling of the beauty of Austria and then noticing the Hooters being built.) I sometimes feel that the communists were correct about our decadent capitalism. I also feel that deep down most of us want to experience such decadence. Even though these thoughts and feelings bother me, I am proud of my country in many other ways. ------------------ Always with the negative waves, Moriarty.

10. Right now Nvidia-based video cards are the best consistently. The current cards are based on the GeForce chipset. You can find reviews at www.gamecenter.com or www.gamespot.com. I do not know of a great place to buy online in the U.K., but www.pricewatch.com allows you to search by several methods for what you want to find for the lowest offered online price. I do not remember seeing any U.K. based companies. Good Luck!! ------------------ Always with the negative waves, Moriarty.
11. I just started this topic to alert everyone to the fact that another major games site has given a positive review of CM. If you do not agree with their review, POST YOUR OWN. ------------------ Always with the negative waves, Moriarty.
12. Gamespot posted a very nice review of CM last night. It is good to see positive feedback about the game at major game sites! The url is http://www.zdnet.com/gamespot/filters/products/0,11114,196956,00.html ------------------ Always with the negative waves, Moriarty.
13. My experience is that anything below a P2-266 is almost unplayable. I work as an I/T specialist for a large computer firm. In my off hours, I have tested the game on most of our systems, and came up with my minimum standard of a P2-266, 64 MB SDRAM, with a Diamond Viper V550 PCI w/ 16 MB RAM. Of course, not everyone has resources available, but the price for early P2 bundles is very low. The machine I use a work is a dual P3-500 XEON with 1.2 GB ram and a 150 GB RAID-5 array!! A project bought this machine for hosting, and then went tits-up!! I saw the machine sitting around and snagged it while no-one was looking!! It is loud due to the array's fan's and power supply. I have NT4 and Windows 2000 dual-booting, and CM runs great on Win2k!! Only on my off hours, though. ------------------ Always with the negative waves, Moriarty.
14. Nothing can stand up to the hours I spent with my friends arguing LOS, etc. The fun of setting up and playing company size actions on a gym floor was the best. But CM is rapidly giving me the same quality experiences. It is a fitting replacement, now that most of my wargaming pals have gone their seperate ways. It is so convenient an opportunity to experience, now that I actually have to work to support myself and my family!! ------------------ Always with the negative waves, Moriarty.
