1. I've seen some rare problems where an ISP prefers a file be sent as a new E-Mail or forwarded versus a reply. Try that one as a last resort.
2. I must also say I am surprised I haven't got burned out with this game even with 12 PBEM's going and one year of play! Every other previous PC game occupies my time and mind for 3-6 months and then gathers dust. Not CM. How am I going to find time for CM and CM II though????
3. I've seen that too about ten years ago and it's awesome ! When I was there a couple of P-51's came by and did a strafing run with blanks also. Very cool.
4. Thanks Tom W. That's the one. No clear conclusion on this vehicle it sounds like i.e. whether there is a true "problem" and if it gamey or not. The latest RD tourney has excluded it from tournament play interestingly enough. I ask cause I am up against two of these buggers in a Warfare HQ tourney and can't seem to get a piece of them but getting plenty on me.
5. Can anybody point me to the thread on the targeting problems with this vehicle? The search function was not cooperating.
6. Thanks Schrullenhaft. All these Nvidia complaints make me nervous for the next PC upgrade I'm doing but sounds like most people don't have any problems.
7. I've seen all the issues with Nvidia cards. How about this ATI one?
8. TF Butler by Mr. Wild Bill Wilder I believe is a good one I'm playing PBEM and ScreaminEagle is being tough on me as always. It has good balance after three battles but final results will tell. You can trust anything WBW makes will be good ! Villers-Bocage also is very fun.
9. This question may be a little premature but has any compatability testing with CMBO been done on the new version of Windows due out this Fall? I have a new PC in my future if my wife lets me...
10. William Craig's, Enemy at the Gates of course. Excellent account of Stalingrad. Don't confuse this with the movie... Carell's books are great reads also. He has one on the Afrika Korps also plus the D-Day one already mentioned.
11. I've had good success by playing in the snow. This is to the attackers disadvantage and greatly helps the play balance in my experience.
12. There's a really good one at Fort Knox, Kentucky and they used to have a WWII re-enactmanent on July 4th that involved a Hetzer (I believe), AT guns, and Shermans. P-51's would do a fly by also with guns blazing (blanks of course). It was awesome and very loud. Bunch of infantry also. Highly recommended for a CM kind of guy. The musuem had numerous tanks inside and out. Think they had a King Tiger if I remember right plus a T-34 and numerous others. Patton's ivory revolvers are on display as well.
13. Thanks MadMatt! I'll give the workaround a try soon. I am surprised there's not more people screaming about this but I'm guessing most TCP/IP games are being played to conclusion with people with more time to play then me....
14. BTS - This may not be the best way to ask this, and I'll apologize in advance if not, but I was wondering if the bug of dropping a move when going from TCP/IP to PBEM has been acknowledged by you guys and plans to fix it? Thanks !
15. A bug has been reported though that when you save a TCP/IP game, and then start back up into PBEM, a move turn is dropped for either you or your opponent. I had this happen myself. There was an earlier thread on this a couple of weeks ago.
16.
quote:
Originally posted by Darstand: Under the heading of clues for the clueless. How do I find out my IP address???? I use Internet Explorer and Earthlink as my provider. Does the address change every time you log on????

Darstand, My ISP set up is like yours with Earthlink and all and I get set a new IP address everytime I log on so you will likely have to do "winipcfg" as suggested in one of the other threads. Works for me! Log on, do winipcfg, then get the IP address it gave you. You'll have to watch for disconnects though as you'll get a new IP after you logon again and you'll have to let your opponent know the new IP so you can reconnect again.
17. As you noted, sending armor first is a form of tank suicide in my experience. Without the eyes and ears of your infantry, your armor is vulnerable to all kind of nasty surprises. My preference is to scout ahead, and especially the flanks, with infantry or cheap vehicles like AC, HT, etc.. to protect and scout my armors flanks. In a 1500-2000 QB, the loss of a a tank or two can be devasting to your victory chances and consequently protecing them until the moment of use is key. To lose one due to poor scouting or a poor understanding of possible enemy contacts is a pure waste. Once I have a reasonable idea of where the enemy AT threats are, then I can move my own armor into the best possible attack position based on reasonable enemy intentions and not guess work. Of course, this doesn't always work in theory... I'm sure you'll get all kinds of good advise and replies on this one. And keep your armor 100m plus from any cover if you are not sure if it contains infantry AT like Zooks, Fausts, etc..
18. QB = Quick Battle. Not sure about POTD....
19. Does anybody recommend a "sweet spot" for Computer Experience and Play Balance combination? I've done a variety of computer experience (+1 - +3) and the AI gets pretty tough at the high end. It needs to vary depending on whether the AI is attacking or defending. There's a lot of negative talk about the AI but the above adjustments give you a lot of flexibility and challenge. Try playing any version of Close Combat and it's laughable AI.... Hats off to the developers of Combat Mission.
