  1. Assaulting the small village now under a pretty smoke screen. Stoffel will soon get to see some of my armor and Funnies. Mines are a problem and pop up everywhere. Will soon have two flag's I suspect. Beginning to think the map is a tad bit too large and too much to do in 60 turns but time will tell. I have been probably average on aggressiveness. Almost all armor still intact with light casualties except lone Para Platoon that was wiped out by the bunker they destroyed. [ April 01, 2002, 09:59 AM: Message edited by: jhdeerslayer ]
  2. You haven't seen nothing yet Stoffel! Been fun Steve and we'll keep you posted. I call this one "Das Beast" for all the moves I have to do... Thanks for all the Arty I have which Stoffel has only begun to see I love the map and the surprises I've run into. [ March 28, 2002, 05:32 PM: Message edited by: jhdeerslayer ]
  3. They're deleted. Always good to back up your BMP's before replacing them since you may not like the new BMP. I back mine up onto a CD or a huge Zip file on my hard drive.
  4. Ah... I remember. I bet my XP system doesn't have Quick Time and it must not be with the CM CD either. Just as well as I can start playing quicker
  5. Funny, I have never seen the movie again since I installed CM on my new XP system. Don't miss it. Just wonder why it stopped? Saw a thread somewhere on that... Always had it on my 95 system.
  6. Page 68 of this magazine to be exact. First time I have seen them review a game.
  7. Sorry to hear Eagle! Maybe you won't see my troops coming up that hill as easy anymore.
  8. XP is working great for me other then the Nvidia issue.
  9. I just got a Dell 4300, 1.7G, XP, SB Live!, and Nvidia Ti200 and this has been an awesome platform for CM (other then the plenty mentioned Nvidia graphics issue which is just an annoyance and not Dell related). The graphics are incredible and game play is real fast now. I can take on a monster game now no problem. I have had no XP compatability issues other then a little problem with Excel 97...
  10. Thanks Schrullenhaft. I'll check that tonight. I thought maybe it wasn't coincidence that the Windows XP driver update I loaded from Microsofts's XP update site was 2.1.8.3 instead of the 21.83 mentioned. Probably one in the same thing. Side note: With XP/Nvidia I consistently have to do Alt-Tab (Esc does not work) during the save file screen of PBEM's to see anything. About 50% of the time when I enter the 3D screen to play I have to do Esc for bad graphics. Not always. This is already pretty well known just passing on my experience. New system rocks so can't complain much.
  11. Thanks guys for the response. The Alt-G is something I totally forgot about and it contributed greatly to getting rid of my poorly described "sparkly" video. I still get sparkling when panning but I assume that is "normal" and not a major concern. No corruption in video just a different affect then my old Slealth 540 card that was choking on CM big time. One item of confusion on the Video Driver revision numbers. I now have 2.1.8.3 (yes three decimal points) for this Dell supplied (not sure who actually makes the card - need to open the system I suppose) system. I downloaded this from the MS Windows XP update site [along with many other patches - ]. When you guys refer to a revision I assume it's the Nvidia revision? And not the card manufacturer which in theory could be different? So I don't know I suppose what actual Nvidia revision I have. If I go to Dell's download spot for this card there is another revision all together ! Hard to tell what you are getting Just curious on your experience. Thanks again for the "sparkly" video help.
  12. For a lack of a better word... New CMBO install with a Nvidia Ti200 and XP (2X FSAA) and the terrain has a sparkly look and sparkles real good when panning. This didn't occur on my old system. The CM 3D screens don't have the dark contrast, non-shiny, that I have with my old system. I tried various contrast and brightness adjustments but seems something else more fundamental. Any ideas?
  13. Now I know why my new XP system didn't show the movie anymore. No QuickTime, no movie. Advantage to me actually.
  14. A data point for those who have been watching this: I have a brand new Dell 4300 system, XP, and Nvidia Geforce3 Ti200 Video with 21.83 drivers. I have 2X FSAA set up as all advised and there are the expected graphic distortions but hitting ESC clears them up. I occasionally see ragged and unreadable text and also 3D video that stretches as you pan on the screen. Hitting ESC clears all this up and no big deal since with this new P4 1.7G it does all this in a second. I can live with this until a fix is found and this still beats the heck out of the Win 95 system I just abolished to the obsolete shelf. I can actually pan CM without screens freezing. What a concept. Not to mention fog now...
  15. Who else would explain the Nvidia/XP issue over and over again??? By the way, mine hits my house Monday so getting ready for questions...
  16. Rune - You able to play OK on XP? Any feel for the % of people OK with XP/Nvidia and not OK? Seems like I have heard a few with no problems (which seems odd considering the nature of the problem) and many others with problems. Maybe the silent majority of people don't have problems and consequently don't post. I am about to plunk down some serious cash for a new PC with XP/Ti200 and am worried I may be one of the few that no workaround gets this combo to work. With my Win95, 266Mhz system I can't wait much longer for this driver thing to work or I'll go insane with my current system. Love your scenarios by the way
  17. Firing to close at a building will produce the same result. Saw a Stug get taken out this way.
  18. Some formal statement and status from BTS would be helpful I think as well. I would assume as CMBB is being newly developed this graphics issue is being investigated since all caveats about a game released before XP/nVidia would not apply. Can't imagine they would release a new game that would still have to deal with this driver issue unless they are hoping nVidia will fix it before the release of CMBB which seems an unlikely business strategy. I wonder if any CMBB work could be ported to CMBO or some other lessons learned? At some point or another, BTS would have to address this I would think is my point unless nVidia comes through with a quick fix. About to buy a new PC and holding off waiting for a good driver from nVidia. Seems crazy to me !
  19. Thanks Schrullenhaft. Your expertise is well appreciated as always. I get nervous when I'm about to get a new system and hear some guys never getting Nvidia/XP combo to work right with CM even with the work arounds. Seems like this issue has been on the table for awhile. Has BTS communicated anything recently on progress with Nvidia?
  20. I thought I heard somewhere that XP has the capability to fool an application into thinking it is running under 98, ME, etc.. versus XP. Thought they set this up to help any compatibility issues. Just wonder if this would help alleviate some of the graphic problems associated with XP.
  21. Thanks for the info. Sent as below but I wouldn't hold my breath on a reply: Mr. Perez, I am a current owner of Battlefront.Com’s Combat Mission game and I am about to upgrade to a Windows XP system using the Nvidia Ti200 through Dell. This game has acquired quite a following, and though not the volume of many main stream games I’m sure, some attention to the issues experienced by many in my upgrade position would be well appreciated throughout the Combat Mission community. Seems unfortunate that by upgrading to a state of the art system, I will have to sacrifice some functioning (white transparency, garbled screens, etc..) features of this year old, well designed and respected game. The game developers have put the responsibility in the video driver court for many months and have evaluated new drivers as they have been made available but with no success. I am sure this is something a company of your nature deals with on a daily basis but any advise or latest status would be greatly appreciated. I hope to hear from you at your convenience. Thank You and Best Regards, Jeff Hatfield Brighton, MI
  22. Too bad there's not some way a CM patch could deal with this issue but I am sure it would be out if there was. Not a PC expert myself. Sounds like we're at the mercy of the video driver manufacturer and not a good place to be. Seems like Battlefront is at risk of alienating some customers since the product doesn't work as advertised regardless of who's fault it is. Owners of a car don't care that it is another suppliers fault when it fails, they blame the original car maker. This game is so well done otherwise that I think the vast majority will overlook some of the suggested inconveniences though. Is this issue still at the mercy of the drivers? Will CMBB potentially have the same issue? Think of all the new PC's slowly flooding the market and what I hear a good chance they will not work with CMBO without these kluge (sp?) fixes and maybe not even then. I suspect other game companies have more pull with Nvidia and others then Battlefront does based on user volume. Can you imagine Microsoft releasing a game (Age of Empires, Flight Simulator, etc..) and not working right on most new PC's? I don't think we'd be stuck in this waiting mode very long. I would think Battlefront would or should be very concerned about this as I am sure they are. As a constant user of this awesome and incrediblity developed game, is there anything I can do to help? I am just dreading buying my new XP system and what surprises the CM/Nvidia issue will have for me. Ironically, I'm buying this new smoking system so my CM enjoyment will increase substantially. I told my wife another reason...
  23. This seems to be such a popular topic on this forum I thought I'd add my own question: I am close to getting a new Dell system with XP and the GeForce 3 Ti200 card. Am I guaranteed to have all the mentioned graphics problems when I get a new PC? Seems ludicrous that my old 266 Celeron with a Stealth 540 card doesn't have any of these problems (but slow...) and if I spend a small fortune on a new PC I'll have to babysit it for this issue. Any good news?
