  1. Another part of the same episode described a Sgt. using a knife as he hunted insurgents. The insurgents fled into reeds and he to used a knife as well in a confrontation during the reed hunt This was not tied in to the other incident. The Sgt. wasn't a one man Rambo as other forces were nearby. Granted hand to hand is rare and I am not saying it is the norm but it still can happen especially in urban areas. It would be nice if SF had some hand to hand combat resolution if deemed appropriate. [ December 15, 2005, 09:50 AM: Message edited by: Waycool ]
  2. In the Shootout episode that mentioned hand to hand combat, the Marine (I think it was a Marine) was involved in clearing a Hotel in darkness and as he was going down a stairway an Insurgent was heading up. A melee unfolded and the Marine used his knife which they stated was a K-Bar. The description was fairly graphic in the confrontation the Marine stabbed the insurgent in the left temple which left the the Marine quite in a state of shock other fireteams took over the sweep. 3. How will Shock Force handle/resolve hand to hand combat? While watching The History Channel's Shootout series my mind began to wonder how SF will represent this aspect of close in fighting. The episode I was watching highlighted a few nasty engagements of Marines vs. insurgents in Iraq where the Marines used their trusty Kabar to deadly effect.
  4. One item that I have read relating to poor Arab performance is the lack of developing good NCO and Junior Grade Officer corps. The desire for people who think outside of the box is frowned upon in most dictatorial/ totalitarian situations.
  5. Vote for the subdued tones here I remember when I fully modded the terrain in CMBO with Magua's and others. The entire new terrain looked so damn sweet and gritty.
  6. Thanks for the 9RTR link, very nice find. This and Arthur Gerald Chester's North Irish Horse site http://www.nih.ww2site.com/ make for some very nice reference for those interested in things Churchill and the experiences of British Armour.
  7. Being a disappointed gamer who is currently sobbing in his tea LOL.. It seems to me BFC is biting the hand that feeds. The core client base of BFC is WW2 fans who bought the CMBO CMBB CMAK. While I can appreciate that the dev team might get tired of WW2 it still is what drives these forums and sales. Automatic sales of a new improved CMx2 WW2 based (well near automatic sales)are assured as it is the era we game. It seems to me by having SF modern based, a non-historical campaign it will/would cut into the sales quite substantially from the BFC's built in WW2 client base. The module based system seems sound but I envsioned teams interested in other eras doing their thing with CMx2 all the while we/I would be enjoying my bread and butter WW2 based CMx2. Playing The Water Rats Canadians in the Scheldt or Monty's Mountain Goats The Canadians in Italy. hehe. To dream. [ October 08, 2005, 07:43 PM: Message edited by: Waycool ]
  8. Disappointed. WW2 is my fave era for gaming.
  9. What is BATH ?? Is it an online resource? I would be interested in the Canadian War Diaries for WW2.
  10. Fields of Fire by Terry Copp is well worth a read and a place on your bookshelf. Another title I highly recommend Reginald Roy's 1944 The Canadians in Normandy for a very detailed account.
  11. Interesting article thanks though one quote cited near the end strikes me as quite fanciful. Page 6 of the article. "Haupsturmführer Kurt Portugall, commander of the German battle group that defended Eagle Hill, also failed to escape the cauldron. Captured on Rose Hill, he expected immediate execution when his winter smock was torn open, revealing his SS runes and combat decorations. As he could speak some Russian he was taken to a tall, distinguished major who told him: I have a lot of respect for the combat soldiers of the Waffen SS. You will shortly be transported behind our lines. In our rear area there are as many swine as in your rear area. I'm telling you, leave your SS runes and your decorations here; it will be better for your future health. I will not keep your decorations nor will any of my soldiers because we are Guards soldiers, the Russian Waffen SS!" The quote seems to reek of typical W-SS hero worship. Now I have read of WSS stripping their insignia off or adopting an Army tunic ala Kurt Meyer to avoid detection and the repercussions once found out to indeed be WSS but that was done by the actual WSS soldier. Putting myself in the boots of a Russian Guards officer who undoubtedly suffered or had lost family under the Germans, I tend to think most would deal with the SS with a bullet from their Tokarev pistol. 12. There has been talk on the Panzer Elite forum I think it may be restricted and not available for public consumption. If it is available I would love to see it as well.
  13. Seeing the patch addressed SMG issues for Th Aussies, British and NZ forces why not the Canadians? From what I understand it was the main SMG in the MED for Canadians.
  14. Re: 52nd Lowland Division(Mountain) artillery, I believe they were equiped partially with the 3.7" Mountain Howitzer. http://www.ra39-45.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/guns/ [ October 21, 2004, 08:09 AM: Message edited by: Waycool ]

  17. Does anyone know which unit first had Panthers in action in Italy? In Daniel Dancocks "The D-day Dodgers" Canadians in Italy 1943-45 he mentions Canadians were the first units to engage Panthers. Some really first rate accounts are reported both infantry and armoured actions in D-day Dodgers. If I am not mistaken Dancocks mentions 1st Panzer Regiment as the unit with the Panthers (could he be refering to HG Panthers? Or other? This work is an excellent account of the Canadians in Sicily and Italy, I highly recommend it. [ June 16, 2004, 11:28 PM: Message edited by: Waycool ]
  18. Very nice Wicky! It turns the Lee into one sexy looking beast. Downloading now.
  19. Thanks.. Hopefully they will fix the Canadian units as well as time frame I think they should be available from about Aug 44 but could be wrong.
  20. Are WASP flamethrower vehicles modeled in CMAK. They were used in Italy late 44-45 but I have't been able to see them in game? They exist in CMBO.
