  1. Ah, but there was one MAJOR difference to the War in 'Nam. HELICOPTERS. They were such a big part of the way the enemy was engaged. You could just place infantry and say "they just got dropped off by the Hueys", but then Charlie would not have gotten a chance to knock out any of your squads in the air. GP
  2. Wow, that looks great TwoSheds! I can't wait to see the beta! Let me know if you need any testers. GP
  3. Bill, I prefer a scenario length of 30 - 45 turns. Then again it depends on the flow of the battle. If I get one into the 45 to 60 turn range and there is still sufficient pucker factor and the outcome is not clear, I don't mind that it's long or has to be set aside. What I do mind about long scenarios is when I'm given a lot of reinforcements to early and I wind up with traffic jams. This may be due to my catious nature though. I tend to advance slowly until contact is made then turn up the heat! I do like the occasional added pressure of time since it provokes different tactics than battles with no time pressure. GP
  4. Oh boy! The testosterone is pumping now. I think we better supply all the young bucks with Pro Kits! And you ain't gettin' paid until after the short arm check! GP
  5. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Chupacabra: Ooh, what about CM-brand heroin? "Booyah! CM-brand smack, penetrating your bloodstream like an 88mm round, packs more punch than 105mm VT!" Enough of this pussy-footing around with legal merchandise, I want some hardcore vice action! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Chupacabra, Hah! You're already hooked bad on CM, you don't need another addiction! GP
  6. Noooooooooooo! Once you start down the path of "The Dark Side" there is no turning back!! BTS would wind up like one of the companies they abhor! GP
  7. Bill, We're all grateful for your contributions! We who have tried our hand at constructing scenarios know how much effort goes into a good one! I've always enjoyed the ones you put together and look to them for examples when trying to put one together. You always seem to know just how to tickle the AI and provide an interesting challenge for two player. I can't wait to see your latest! For me, one of the satisfaction of scenario construct is putting together a convincing map. I've been searching and collecting satellite maps of areas in Germany I'm familiar with to use as a base for maps. I'd like to send you a map sometime as a blank canvas for a scenario! Maybe...Ruschberg Rumble...or...Baumholder Bash! Hay, anybody out there have a street map of Baumholder (kasern)? GP "After you've secured an area, don't forget to tell the enemy."
  8. Try doing this and see if it makes a difference, It did for me (on PC). Right click on the "My Computer" icon. Choose properties->file system->Troubleshooting. Check "Disable write-behind cache for all drives." Make sure "disable synchronous buffer commits" is UN-checked. Doing these thing helped my situation somewhat, not 100%. GP
  9. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by D Trooper: Where can I go to D/L these new scenarios...? I see CMHQ, and Depot, and Annex, but can't seem to find any of them...Thanks..<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> D Trooper, The are a number of pages that have scenarios for download. Try CMHQ for starters. http://combathq.thegamers.net/depot.html GP
  10. Ouch, that's gotta' hurt. I can't think of much comfort in this situation. I did win this same scenario as the Allies though (against AI). There are some good hull-down positions for the Allies. I had to double and triple team the Tigers from the flanks. I also remember using the trees to good effect. GP
  11. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Slapdragon: Although Wilhammer, a certain American directional mine does have a molded label on it that says: "Place Front Toward Enemy". Of course I suspect that this is for a completely different reason than the label on you pen box, and typical of Americans, is only in English...<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Yes, and on those same mines we would write "If you can read this you're to close". GP "If you can't remember, the claymore is pointed towards you. "
  12. All, I've been playing "Dutch Gambit" as the Allies against the AI. Lots of fun! I gotta try this one PBEM. This one is a must play! I rate this one... GP [This message has been edited by groundpounder (edited 10-17-2000).]
  13. Send it over, I'll test it out. GP "When you have secured an area, don't forget to tell the enemy."
  14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by IntelWeenie: No, that's what you say after your 50 rds of M-60 ammo on the "familiarization" range. BTW, I think the old sub-caliber LAW practice rockets (not the silly 9mm tracer rounds for the AT-4) were the most fun training device ever made. OT, but I have to: (long time Blues fan) Brett Hull just scored his 614th goal to pass Mario Lemiuex as the #8 all-time NHL goal scorer. Canadian friends here will understand... <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Oh, Yeh! The LAW trainer was cool! But grenades were really cool. Boy, were those grenade instructors nervous. Those dudes didn't stay in THAT job long! I remember seeing guys pull the pin and 2 seconds later if it was not thrown, the instructor was screaming "throw it, get rid of it!". I never saw anyone drop a grenade, but I've heard that it happens. GP
  15. Barrold713, Haaaaa!!!!!BOHICA is a good one. You're welcome for the chuckle, thanks for your's. I gotta' sit down some day and compile a list of all these acronyms. I imagine somebody already has though. I'll have to do a search on it. GP
  16. All, I just played La Gleize. It was a lot of fun (played as Allies). I did not see this scenario at CMHQ Depot. I downloaded it from http://users.pandora.be/aneric/index8.htm Give it a try, I think you'll like it. And no, It's not one of mine... GP

Any others? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> FTN is F**k the Navy Don't know BOHICA though, is that a Navy specific acronym? GP PS:Sorry for the doubble post.

  19. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by buddy: Hey, anyone else think this board is getting freaky? People seem to be extremely uptight on a few threads - including one I opened and was later locked. Lighten up, people - if you disagree then don't get nasty - debate. You can make your point in a civil way. Other points - personally I think my thread was prematurely closed, but I yield to the moderators decisions on this matter. I still feel that this forum can be used for other postings - precedent has already been set a hundred times!<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Don't fret buddy, it's just the full moon! GP
  20. Well said RMC! This is my point exactly and it is this factor (call it the "Buddy Factor") that should be the predominate force in any TACTICAL simulation. GP
  21. I't is not very exciting reading, but don't forget one of the first books on War... "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu http://www.kimsoft.com/polwar.htm GP
  22. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by ScoutPL: I dont know if I should be offended or not GP. Nationlistic fervor, also read as patriotism, is what drives our all volunteer force to join in the first place. I agree with you totally, it has nothing to do with good/bad leaders. I certainly hope I didnt give you the impression I think I'm a good leader because I can recite the pledge of allegiance. I have three years as an EM with 1-504 PIR, a combat jump into Panama, and 8 months in the desert, plus over four years as an officer with 3-505 PIR to fall back on for leadership skills, not to mention my dynamic personality. But I know that's not what you meant. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> ScoutPL, No offense meant. I merely was pointing out that Patriotism and such is quickly distilled down to loyalty to your buddies and to the leaders who are the "thrifty" spenders of human lives when your in the middle of the s**t! GP

  24. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by ScoutPL: Actual answer: No brass no ammo. I always thought the acronym stuff was for the guys that didn't bring a book along. Thinking up silly acronyms gave them something to do while the rest of us read or slept. So I dont know the first two. Maybe CavScout does. (I dont think he reads very much)<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Slept or read? Hey, we never got to sleep or read! What Army are you in anyway...oh, I forgot, this is the year 2000, they teach soldiers how to read now a days. GP
  25. You guys are right on number 3. "No brass no Ammo Drill Sergeant!" I'll give 1 and 2 some time. They may be tied to a specific time period. GP
