  1. Will the AI be able to use the second story in CMBB? I have not read anything about it but it sure would be nice if it would. Especially when figthing in Stalingrad /Kristian
  2. <blockquote>quote:</font><hr>Originally posted by Luftwaffe: But yes, we have the comfort of sitting by a warm computer, using MOUSE aim, external view, and target info... I think that would beat out the most "veteran" tanker...<hr></blockquote> Sorry, I can't agree with you there. I think one of the problems is that you ARE using a mouse when you aim. The mouse is a good (excellent?) all round device. But the tank sights were designed for one thing only. Just think about it. What is easier to use, a CDplayer or one of the mediaplayers on your computer. I know that I would pick the CDplayer any day because its just quicker smoother and... And the gunners in WW2 had a LOT of practice with a device that was designed just for that. Am I making sense? /Kristian
  3. I guess this one deserves a *Bump*. Everyone is always talking about their latest systems and how much power they got in them. But there are still some of us out here with five year old systems. :-( It would be nice to be able to play some of the smallest scenarios at least. I know Im not the target audience anymore but still... /K
  4. The QUESTION: Lets see if I remember it all. What do you get when you multiply six by nine. If you are using the base of 13... /Kristian
  5. Foobar, if I remember correctly the tree mod with 'decorations' where in the Weinachtsgrenadiere mod. There were a lot small things modded but they were overshadowed by the coketruck. /Kristian
  6. I guess you deserve a serious answer. This question has been asked sooo many times before so I guess thats why noone is taking this serious. But look at it from the bright side, at least noone told you to do a search Short answer. BTS wont tell :-( Long answer. Do a search and try reading between the lines in Steves posts. They've been out of stock three(?) times(10,000 each print run?). I think he once said that the sales figures from their internet-only should equal around 200,000+ copies sold. Another time he said that internet-only equals 10 times the copies sold in stores. There are 7000+ registered posters on this board. How many customers will register here? I think one of ten is too few and everyobne is too much, say one out of five. All this points to something close to 30,000. But all this was said a long time ago so maybe closer to 40,000. And now they have also began to sell the game in germany(other countries?). Just make your own guess/estimate. It cant be much worse than mine Kristian ps I hope Im really wrong on the figures. They sure have deserved to sell at least a million copies. Well actuallu more, but lets not get greedy.
  7. The problem here is gameplay. Just think about how many times you have broken your monitor/kicked the cat/screamed in frustration(or whatever you do...) when your troops DIDNT follow your orders. I know I have done so countless of times:-( So the question for BTS (Charles) is WHEN should they obey your orders. I dont see any easy soulution to this. Sometimes troops die because they follow your orders and sometimes they die because they dont. I think it would be easy (if coding ever is easy...) to change the game so troops stoped moving and began to return fire when ambushed. But then someone would fins a few examples of units who died because of that. Should they change it back then? What if t anly took a depleted halfsquad to stop an advance? I think what BTS has coded works very good. Not everytime, but Im not sure different people react exactly the same way in real life when they come under fire. But there might be a solution to this problem in CMBB. Unless my memory fails me, Ive read something about a advance to contact. A new order for infantry which should work like hunt for tanks. Im almost certain that Ive read this but dont quote me /Kristian
  8. <blockquote>quote:</font><hr>Originally posted by redwolf: How is that supposed to work? The smallarms are given permenently to troops and you can't shift them easily, except maybe MGs.<hr></blockquote> What I was thinking about was that it wouldnt be unrealistic (gamey) to have a couple of platoons to simulate this. One way to simiulate this is to buy a platoon or two of vet -insert your favorit gamey unit here- together with your 'vanilla' force. VG SMG should work fine, maybe VG fusilier(sp?) or maybe even the hated Gebirgsjaeger to simulate stronger squads. Thoughts? /Kristian
  9. Ok I know this thread wasnt about exactly this, but here goes. Didnt the germans on the attack concentrate a lot of atumatic weapons in the force which were supposed to go in the front? Im going from memory here so I might also be incorrect about details. But Im sure that Ive read this on this BBS. The concentration of automatic weapons was also extra heavy in any force held back for counterattacks. If thats true then I dont see anything wrong with having a vet sturmkompanie on the attack and some troops with a lot of smgs for counterattacking when defending. Can anyone here confirm this? /Kristian ps Panzers- Marsch! is a wonderful film. Including two german traning movies. One for new Panther crews. The other with a combined force counter attack including Panzerjaeger IV and 251Ds(the one with flamethrowers). One interesting thing is that the flamethrowers are used only after the enemy is beaten to mop up. Just like in CM! There are some other footage in there as well including a 1.5 sec sequence with a Brummbaer which they claim is the only one existing. Buy it today if you didnt do it yesterday.
  10. But the autosurrender isnt really a surrender. Its just a quick way to stop a game from going on and on until the last enemy soldier is dead or captured. Maybe a better soulution would be to have a 'disengage' order/'auto disengage'. Just let the computer calculate calculate who got away and who didnt. /Kristian My sorry excuse for posting here is to learn english. Whats yours?
  11. Hi, Im wondering just how common this was. Somethng similar (sandbags on shermans) was discussed a long time ago and from what I can remember there was never any proof that it was used on a large scale. Maybe it was used only used in some divisions. I think that if it was very common there would be a lot more pictures of tanks with the modification. But then again it could have been because they looked extremely ugly, and I guess that most photographers want their pictures to look good. Maybe thats the reason I never have seen a picture of it. /Kristian
  12. Sharpshooters dont usually open fire on such short distances so I guess he thought he would be better off if he just left the enemy alone. But when he was rushed he acted in self defence . As for picking out the HQ, thats what sharpshooters are programmed to do (if there had been a schreck team nearby he probably would have fired at it instead). If you think the result was strange you probably shouldnt use sharpshooters at night as they prefear to shoot at ranges over 200m. /Kristian
  13. Hi! You said that it destroyed a whole company. How many of the infantry squads where identified before the carnage started? What Im trying to say is that if a lot of them already where identified you probably didnt kill so many more than what was showed. But if your Comet destroyed a new fresh unidentified company all by itself you probably had a lot more kills than was shown. But then again the company might have been targeted (unknown to you) by artillery so I guess its very hard to say. /Kristian
  14. Sounds strange. Maybe the M4 was out of ammo? It could also have something to do with LOS. Im not sure if that is used in the flag control calculation but that is a possibility. So if your M4 was behind a ridge and didnt have a clear LOS to the flag it could explain it. /Kristian
  15. Here is something Ive been thinking about. If you for choose, for example, regular then half of your points should be used för regulars. The other half is evenly divided between green and vet. Thoughts? /K
  16. I had a very bad experience with a übergerman scenario. A german attack with 1800 against 900 points. But that wasnt enough. Almost all the germans had max ammo(60), the german tanks had almost no AP and a lot of HE, he had a 150mm spotter with 115 shells, and a lot of my troops started tired or wary. Did I miss something? Oh yes, the german briefing said that there would be no airsupport. Fun? Not at all! Im still wondering if it was playtested at all /Kristian
  17. Ive also played a few and didnt like them at all. One thing I thought of was that in ASL you always knew what you where up against and the scenarios where designed/balanced for that. Maybe its worth trying to play them with full knowledge of the opponents forces? The game will almost certainly play a lot different if you you you are attacking and only facing two green volkgrenadiers the first ten minutes like in Hitdorf on the Rhine. Then after the reinforcements arrive you are no longer the attacking but just trying to hold on to what you got when youre suddenly facing four mkIV with only infatery. You loose FOW but if its ASL you want to recreate it shouldnt be there anyway. Thoughts? /Kristian
  18. Lets see if my memory works like it should. It has been brought up before and Steve (Charles?) said that it would require a lot of coding. Much more than changing the PBEM file format. I cant remember what was said about future changes but for now three emails per turn is something we have to live with. :-( /Kristian
  19. If there are no flags then the game is decided solely on the kill rato. /Kristian
  20. 4. Why the AI retargets when a units status changes. It works that way if you dont pick targets yourself. A squad that isnt firing back is no threat to the firing squad. Therefore it switches to another target. If you give the targetorders yourself then its more sticky and your squad will continue to fire at the selected target for a longer time. /Kristian
  21. Not enough PBEMfiles? So you are blaming me for your 'ugly' creation? /Kristian
  22. Actually you can buy elite Volksturm in QBs. Its only when you create a scenario that you are limited to conscript/green/regular. Its the same for the allied side except that you cant buy conscripts in your scenario, but in a QB you can. Maybe it should be the other way around? BTS, PLEASE FIX OR DO SOMEFINK! /Kristian Shouldnt Volksturm be immune to moral effects from artillery? - What, you call this artillery? When I was young back in 1918 we had....
  23. Olle, the way Ive understood it is that you get points only for the actual killing, routing the troops wont affect your final scoore. It just makes it easier to take a flag or kill other units. And I think that killing one man in ten squads will give you the same points. Anyone else? /Kristian
  24. Holien, You get full points for killing an obeserver regardless if he has any rounds left. Regarding killing units or holding flags, it depends (like everything else) . You can try counting the unit points and then compare them to the flag (100/300). But remember that the game is decided on the pointRATIO. Sometimes its worth it sometimes not. But its usually more satisfying to kill all your opponents troops, so thats what I usually do. Or at least try to do An example : 1000 ME with one 300point flag. Lets say you have lost one whole platoon which costed 100 ponits to purchase. That means your opponent have exactly 100 points. How many points you have is usually almost impssible to tell but lets say you have destroyed one whole platoon (150 points) and one tank with crew (150 points) for a total of 300 ponts. If there were no flag you would now be the winner (you 300, opponent 100) which means you get a scoore of 75 and your opponent 25, a 3:1 ratio. Which would mean a tactical (?). Lets count with the flag. Lets say its contested. You still have 300 points and your opponent has 100. BUT the 300 points for the flag belongs to noone. So there is 700 points, and 'the computer' gets 300 that means that in the endgamescreen your scoore plus your opponents wont add up to 100. You will get a scoore of 43 and your opponent gets 14. 3:1 ratio If the flag is in your opponents possession, then you still get 300 points while your opponent gets 400. Your scoore 43 and your opponents 57. A draw (?) If its in your possession, you now have 600 points while your opponent still has 100. Your scoore is 86 and opponents 14. A total vicory! Or maybe a major, I cant remember the exact ratios (age do that to you) So if you have the flag do you leave it to kill more units? The answer is of course a big NOOOOO! (that is,if you oly are interested in winning) You would have to kill units worth 300 points without loosing any yourself just to get even. But you just have to leave one little halfsquad behind to remain in possession of the flag. Then you can go and kill him. Especially the FOs. I hate them almost as much as I hate dwarfs in Myth! Does all this make any sense? I hope so. Otherwise you can try a few hotseats with yourself. /Kristian ps This might seem a little (very!) gamey but since you never know what the opponents losses are I doubt anyone will use it to win a game. Except maybe in some very special circumstances... Edited because I dont know how to use a calculator... [This message has been edited by Graaf Spee (edited 01-25-2001).]
  25. LOL! The whole package might be a little too much for my old modem. Are the sounds worth it? /Kristian
