1. I think this discussion arose several times during the course of my stay on this board and every time we reach a point where to sum up, everyone says that individually, the Panther was superior. However, since this was almost never achieved, and the T-34 functioned in large numbers, deployment wise and effect on the war, it was superior. Really nothing much more to discussm, except personal preferences as to which vehicle to select in battles. Just in case, I'd take my platoon of T-34's to one of your Panthers, thank you very much.
 2. Niles, BTS said there will indeed NOT be an NKVD in the game. This is, according to them, out of the game's scale. Basically, the NKVD were stationed several miles behind friendly lines, and so, outside the scope of the battlefield. It doesn't matter much, though. I'll finally get to slaughter Nazis without having to resort to using hillbillies or tea guzzlers. *Smilies included to emphasise joke*
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Lt Bull: Teddy Roosevelt...I wouldn't have thought that he had done enough to actually have been listed in that survey Lt Bull

I think they included anyone who was an American in there, no matter how skillful of a general he really was. I guess they were hard pressed with deciding who to include. Quiz writer 1: Well, we're short a few spaces. We have two choices. One is to include the guy who absolutely butchered the Brits in the desert for a year or two, the guy who was responcible for destroying 85% of the German army, and the guy who invaded that other guy's country in the first place with such succes. For the second choice, we have a toilet bowl cleaner from the good ol' U S of A. Manager: I like his spirit! It takes real guts to wade into public bathrooms and shine those bowls up to their whitest. Put 'im in! I second my previously written "Bah"
 4. This forum is mostly filled with Westerners, so of course, this isnt something they would commonly remember. Then again, I dont remember either and Im from the very nation that was attacked. Back to the history books with me, I suppose...
 5. OK, OK, lets all just calm down here. I have an excellent way to solve all of this! Capt, I have recebtly been appointed BTS' manager and director of all monetary investments in their humble business. Since you are well aware of their excellent performance, I would highly recommend that you put up a large sum to invest. No less then at least $2,000 would do. If you are willing to accept such a low-risk opportunity to not only make money but to also better a fantastic gaming company, contact me and I will give you the shipping adress from which I will transfer your money to the BTS money-holding thing, otherwise known as my wallet. Please note that you should not worry about how your investment is doing, and should simply wait for progress reports from yours truly. Don't call me, I'll call you. Panzerguy, Take a chill pill, dude. If you just say "Yah, whatever" right now and stop posting to this thread neither your rep or your dignity will be lost. The rest of you people, Uhh...you're welcome to send money too, I guess.
 6. Bah, what a piece of crap...I was kind of hoping for a real selection of generals, but besides Napoleon and perhaps Wellington, they just had a whole bunch of Americans. Oh well...
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by KwazyDog: Guys, note that the vehicles arent in scale with each other and those shots were taken many weeks ago, so much has chanced since then The winter trees look like those fom CM1 becuase currently they are the winter trees from CM1. Yes, Ill be doing new trees down the track Dan

We love you KwazyDawg
 8. LOL, Snake Eyes! Now if someone was only to write a Russian version, since this is CM2 we're talking about
 9. Wolfe, I thought it says what tank it is in the upper middle of the interface? I think it said it was a T-34 with a 76.2 cannon, didn't it? Dont have the pic open at the moment..
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by KwazyDog: Almost Right Commissar The little hatch type graphic actually represents wether the tank had a commanders copula or not, which will alter the tanks spotting abilities, especially over longer distances. At least, I am pretty sure that is correct Dan

Man, now THAT'S what I call detail! Although I was looking forward to seeing a little guy pop out of that turret hatch icon
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Panzer Leader: Hey look the Russian squad seems to be in radio contact! What are those things under the tanker's portrait? ANd is that 17o ammo for his pistol? What is the 70 ammo for? Is it even ammo or some other number.

The things under the tanker's portrait are the tank's radio status and whether it is buttoned or not. The wire thing represents radio contact (this tank appears to be in radio contact with his platoon leader), while the pic on the right represents a turret hatch. In this case, the turret hatch is closed. The ammo from top to bottom: -Main gun ammo -Machine gun near main gun ammo -Machine gun in the hull front ammo Amazing what you can find out by closely studying these pics! 12. LOL, we'll have a whole Star Trek bit going on... "Dumbowski, relocate all power to the energy shields!"
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Maximus: Actually I think the grass in that pic looks to be a wee too bright and too stocky* looking. *stocky - originating from the original CD. I'd like to see Magua's Normandy Grass in that pic. I'd bet it look even better.

I can't understand what people see in that mod. The bloody grass has bright lines running parallel to the map ever 20 metres! Not to mention that pic is about as far from Normandy as you're liable to get during WW2
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Commissar: The picture seems more painted than a photo. Sort of like the original portraits with CM1.

I think you may be right Commissar. Although I must say that the interface picture in the tank shot (the T-34's advancing with troops behind them) looks very realistic. Maybe they used Photoshop to "stick" some old eqipment on some randomly photographed Russian people, lol...
 15. Deadmarsh, You dont seem to understand...attack/defense games aren't meant to be equal! If you want equality in your game, play meeting engagements. Attack defense scenarios give each player their own advantages and disadvantages. ___________________________________________ Defender --- Advantages: -Can dig in his men and equipment -Can remain hidden and ambush the attacker -Does not tire out his men through movement -Can use fortifications like mines, pillboxes, and barbed wire Disadvantages: -Has less points -Must abandon dug in positions if the men are not where they should be or the attacker has moved in an unexpected way -Sometimes forced to defend either the entire map and spread men too thin, or defend only a cluster of VL's and give the rest up ___________________________________________ Attacker --- Advantages: -More points -Freedom to lose men and still maintain the lead through numerical superiority Disadvantages: - Starts out exposed and must move into position, further exposing his men to fire -Does not know the defender's positions and must thus waste points to find discover the enemy -Lacks the use of offensive fortifications like pillboxes -Is forced to advance quickly so he has time to destroy the enemy and capture enough VL's before the time limit runs out. ___________________________________________ I know I have probably missed some, but you get the idea. Yes, sometimes the attacker seems to have more advantages then the defender. This is mainly because you, as the defender, are not playing as well as you should. This is not entirely your fault, as random terrain can literary decide the outcome of a game. However, I must underline my point that attack/defense scenarios are not meant to be fair. If you penalize the attacker too much or give the defender lots of extra points, the attacker will feel like he is being cheated of his advantages. The defender must use entrenchments, fortifications, and excellent use of surprise attacks to achieve the edge. The attacker must use his numbers and skill to discover these fortifications, ambushes and entrenchments and to destroy them. Making it equal just doesnt work.
 16. Oh, and where did you guys get that stylin' pic of the Soviet soldier? I know you guys usually get it from actual WW2 pics, but this one seems recent, almost. Did one of you pose in an ushanka (the name of the soviet hat, with the ear flaps)?
 17. *sniff* I've...waited...so...long *bursts into tears* Gosh is that ever good looking. The uniforms are a bit blurry, but if they are not fixed up by the staff, I am almost positive that 5 minutes after the game's release we will have about 16 different hi-res version available. Oh, and the interface is very nicely done...grenades tracked...fitness status...nice pic...cool looking arrows and style...Deanco thought of everything
 18. Any of you guys still using the Panzertruppen buildgs like I am? I think they are even more detailed the Magua's - plus, I dont go for that whole bright mismatched look. And does his grass have lines of brightness going across or is it just me?
 19. Im assuming you read the preview in some mag, right? There wouldn't be a pic on the net, would there?
 20. Through my experience, Ive found some defenses are easier then others, terrain wise. For example, recently I have been experimenting with defending city maps. I have found out that it is MUCH harded then defending a village or a rural setting. Although at first it appears that the defender would be at an advantage with all those buildings, the same goes for the attacker. His moves are easily blocked by large buildings and he can bring armored support to bear without exposing himself to AT gun on the outskirts of town. If you try to place AT guns in town, they will recieve no foxhole and be extremely vulnerable. So far, playing against an excellent player and a friend of mine on the TH ladder, Ive lost 2 od these city defenses already, although the second with better results then the first. Personally, I dont think the attack/defense is that unbalanced. A lot of the time, good or bad terrain can decide the game's outcome. Which is why the rule generally used in the TH ladder games works very well: each player can reject a map, although the third time they must play the map regardless. Oh, and also, do not be afraid of losing points in ladder games. They are just points, completely imaginary. If you get low standings, don't despair - create a new account in under 5 minutes, and this time, you'll have more experience as well! Just keep at it, and you will eventually know what works and what doesn't in attack defend scenarios. Try to have players who have a little less skill then you attack. As you get better, have players of equal skill and then higher skill attack. This will improve your performance. Good luck to all you defenders out there! EDIT: Just wanted to add that I really like Juardesis' idea for setting up an attack/defend game. The weather option will add an element of unknown to any game, although some players (ladder players especially) will be warry of playing with random weather. 21. "Stick that in your pipe, fritz!" Direct translation: "Zatkni vot eto v tvoyu trubu, fascist!" Doesn't sound like anything a Russian would say though. May I suggest: "Vsem fascistam pizdets!"
 22. Not that I use it much, but I always thoughts that the stock Lynx model was incredibly detailed and good looking.
 23. Sometimes I doubt how much fun a "modern" (as in late 90's early 2000) can be. Technology advanced so much that combat in general has become much easier for the high-tech nation such as the US. Take a look at the new "Land Warrior" program. The soldier is equiped with everything from a gun that can look around corners to a heat/motion/radar that can spot hidden enemies. Now, of course this is good to the fighting man. He doesn't die nearly as much. However, how much fun is it to play? Turn 1: Your units deploy at map edge. Turn on radar and switch through different modes. Satelites indicate enemy positions in secots 16, 27, and 33. Turn 2: Call in heavy precision guided arty to pound positions into dust. Turn 3: Move troops to a position overlooking enemy placement. Pick off left over troops from 2000 feet away. Turn 4: Total Vic. Whoopee... Ok, I know this isnt exactly how things are. Yes, there are difficulties sometimes. It just seems that the more technology advances, the less effort is put into combat. Its more like a high tech bush whack. Now, a cold war game I could understand. Generally equal technologies and odds, equipment which is fun but not "unbeatable", etc. Just my thoughts.
 24. Ok, I can help you with the Russian words. 1) Tank: The russians also use "Tank" as a word. It just sounds a wee bit different. Another way to say tank would be "armor" in english. In Russian, "armor" is translated as "Bronia", with the emphasis on the "a". 2) Im hit: Several ways to say this, of course. "Ya Gotov!" - Im done for! "Menia ranieli!" - Im wounded! "Bladi! Gandonie meniya po nogie pizdanuli!" - Ow, my leg!
