1.
quote:
Originally posted by Elijah Meeks: "Stop being so damn British, Chup.")

Christ Meeks, you've been overdosing on the retard pills, haven't you? Alright, I will explain this once and for all. I'm from New York. Born and raised. I root for the Giants, who, incidentally, are going to kick some Raven ass next Sunday. Mike Piazza is right up there with Jesus, as far as I'm concerned. And don't freakin' talk to me about pizza, 'cause we got the real ****. I am in London to study. I got on a big plane with a bunch of stuff and I came here. I am not a freakin' limey. I knew you were dumb, Meeks, but I didn't realize your memory was so poor. Get it right next time, yes? Thanks for playing! ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
2. Meeks is the management of the 'Pool in the same way the Dubya is the President of the US: not by much, and the result's disputed. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super

6. Also, as F Babra wrote, too much combat experience is often counter-productive. I'd give the 7th AD as the obvious example. In '44 they were one of the most, if not the most, battle-experienced division in the British Army, having fought in North Africa and Italy and having generally performed well. They were sent home to rest and refit in early '44, where they were re-equipped with Cromwells and Fireflies, then the best British tanks. When they got to Normandy, they were overconfident and sloppy, and Wittmann handed them their asses. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
7. Quick note - Jeff, thanks for doing the research. I posted a thread about this a few weeks ago and basically, the official answer was that the amount of tungsten for US tanks is historical. I still feel this is incorrect. FWIW, I agree with the TO&E argument. I have no doubt that tank crews did scrounge tungsten rounds from TDs, but because of the nature of the beast, I don't see how this can be quantified in any meaningful way. Moreover, I have not read any accounts of American tanks (non-TD) using tungsten in battle. Again, doesn't mean it did not happen, in fact I'm sure it did, but it would seem to indicate that it did not happen with the frequency it happens in CM. Once again, I think that the change to make tanks use tungsten when they have it is a good one. But I do think the numbers are somewhat out of whack. Can I prove this? No, of course not, for the same reasons that I don't think BTS can prove that the average US tank was toting around 2-3 t rounds by late '44. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
8.
quote:
Originally posted by Hakko Ichiu: Something long and boring about taunting people. And possibly about the love between a man and his Hiram, I didn't read that far.

Hell, if taunting was all it took, Id've had turns from PolTroon months ago. Even so, worth a shot I guess. PushBroom, you unfortunately ugly Frenchman. Remove that baguette from your pants, you're not fooling anyone. I know it is hard work being French and stupid, but plonk tes fesses down on la chaise et sendez-moi une goddamn turn, espece de chameaux. Or else I will tie you down and read Victor Hugo to you until your head explodes. Scrota is following his normal brilliant gameplan - revealing his forces too early and then dying. Let's all congratulate him for sticking with an unpopular plan, huh? Sneakytea - Since I've gotten sick my luck has improved about a million percent. He thinks I have to "dig him out" of something. If you can count a few shell-shocked squads as something that merit a 'digging out.' I suspect I'll have more difficulty digging the change out of my jeans when I buy Mr. Minnesota a clue. Berli is dropping tons of artillery on me. This is the most unbalanced scenario I've ever played that I haven't designed myself. "But it's fun for the Germans to always lose!" Sure, Timmy, sure. This map would give Rommel the squirts if he wasn't dead. And who knows, maybe it is. Snoriarty is doing a brilliant job of walking forward. Good man. Machu Picchu is pressing onwards. Slowly. And ineffectively. He'll probably win, but good god man, you had it in the bag five turns ago. Let's get on with it already. Hiram - You said you wanted games? Send me a setup. Boy, I'm gonna make you a man. Chupa style. I don't think I'm forgetting anyone. If I am, may you be doomed to listen to Seanachai talk. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
9. Scott - Full-movie playback is probably the most-requested feature for future CMs (for obvious reasons ). Unfortunately BTS has stated that it's harder than it sounds to code. I believe they've said it's possible for CM2, but not to count on it. The best alternative at this point is to play PBEMs and to save the movie files. IIRC a few months ago someone designed a viewer which would allow these files to be viewed in sequence. Hope this helps. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
10. "Absolutely the most evil person that existed in the last century..." How do you quantify evil? He's certainly the most visible embodiment of evil in the last century, but I'm not sure I could rank him. What do you do with Stalin, or Pol Pot, or countless others? In any case, I don't think anyone's going to forget Hitler's legacy anytime soon. I'm quite certain you don't have to worry about that. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
11. Hiram - Fair to say, don't buy cans. Pilsner Urquell is the best readily available bottled pilsner I've found in the States. Some of the Sam Adams varieties are quite good. I like Bass, although it's better in England. Anchor Steam Ale is quite good. Alaskan Brewery makes a very good amber and a tasty pale ale. IPA is also excellent. All of these should be around somewhere. Hell, even 7-11 is selling some good microbrews these days. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
12. Also... Mark IV mentioned Highland Park. They are currently holding a draw for a bottle of their 1958 whisky, which is apparently extremely rare (and the price reflects this ) Take an online survey and you're entered into the drawing. For a shot at booze like that, it was worth the two minutes of my time The website. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
13. Since I wrote my last post, I tried the Macallan 10-yr again, and was much more impressed this time around. Very nice fruity flavor with some sherry-like notes. The wood comes through nicely although it's not overpowering. I'd recommend it. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
14. Heh, I don't usually get into this argument, but for some reason I sorta feel like it now... As plenty of other folks have said, the difference isn't quality, it's gaming experience. I've never owned a console, but I've played console games of course. I can remember just as many console games that I've rated "damn fun" as PC games. The really great games I've played have all been PC, but that's my style. If I liked FPS games better than I do, Goldeneye would be up there. If I liked driving games better than I did, GTS2 and Driver (the Playstation, not the PC port) would be up there. PCs as a gaming platform aren't going away. Why? Because PCs are, first and foremost, a productivity platform. No matter what console developers do, people are still going to own PCs to check their email, order from Amazon, write their papers, do their taxes, compile their databases, and all that other stuff. A significant portion of these people aren't going to want to own more than one computing devices (like me), and so won't buy consoles, and will continue buying games for the PC. Peter Molyneux can say he's not going to develop for the PC anymore, and that may work for him, but I think the majority of game developers, ESPECIALLY if the Xbox takes off, will find it economical to develop for the PC as well. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
15. I know there was a problem with this but IIRC it was fixed in one of the patches. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
16. Alright Hiram. I've owed you a reaming for a while now. Time to bend over and face your maker. Send me a setup, Eagle-boy, scenario or QB, I don't care, preferably 2000 pts. or less. I'll leave the boring details up to you, just try not to pansy it up too much. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
17. Here's Dell Norway. I don't know if it would save you any money to order from them. Also, the UK website is here. Keep in mind also that my computer's almost a year old and was fairly inexpensive at the time. I don't recall what I paid, but it didn't break the bank. For the same amount now you should be able to get a considerably better computer - probably a decent P3 with 128mb RAM. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
18. In a way, not being able to hunt with a gun-damaged tank compensates for one of the deficiencies of the TacAI. Gun-damaged tanks don't seem to realize that they're gun damaged. In a PBEM I'm currently playing, I had a Veteran Hellcat facing off against a StuG. The Hellcat's gun was damaged by what looked like a mortar shell bursting nearby. If it'd reversed back about 5 meters it would have been in full defilade wrt the StuG. However, it sat there like a dope while the StuG found the range and blew it to hell. Whee. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
19. I get decent performance on small to medium maps. Large maps choke up. I've got quite a few hi-res vehicles, and Panzertruppen's buildings, and haven't noticed any slowdowns caused specifically by either of these. My system's fairly decent, it's the video card that's the real bottleneck. I've been very happy with this computer though. Had it for over a year and I've been able to play most of my games without a hitch. Dell provides excellent tech support, and I've found them generally easy to deal with, so if you're still looking at manufacturers, you might try Dell. Hope this helps. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
20. I had a Macallan 10-yr a few weeks ago which I liked. Not drop-your-socks spectacular, but worth trying. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super

22. Mark IV's aren't going to stand up to much of anything. 37mm guns can knock them out frontally, so 17 pdrs cut through them like a hot knife through hamsters. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super

25. 8mb cards are pretty much what there is for laptops at the moment. nVidia's scheduled to release their GeForce Go card sometime in the next few months, but it's not out yet. And since the video card on every laptop I can think of is soldered to the motherboard, I'd have to buy a new laptop to get better performance. Would I like a better computer? Yes. Can I afford one? No. ------------------ Soy super bien soy super super bien soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super
