  1. So what do you do in CM - you dismount infantry at the staging phase and spend another hour moving to contact on foot? In many cases in CMSF there're no terrain features "one feature away", it's an open plain right up to the built-up AO. Just like it was in my particular case. So do you suggest I should walk squads on foot for about a kilometer under heavy enemy fire instead of suppressing first line of buildings from afar and then making a quick dash to cover to this first line of buildings?
  2. I'd argue about incorrect. The area was well reconnoitered - there were no RPG teams. As an added precaution the runs from cover to cover (houses) were short so RPGs wouldn't have had time to aim. Strykers were close to 200m from the enemy squads - first shot P-to-hit is negligible for under-trained Syrian RPG team. So Strykers were used more or less as intended - battle taxis shielding infantry from small arms fire until they are unloaded in a safe place. And after all airguards correctly identified the enemy as MMGs that do not open on Strykers unless someone buttons up. Yet that's exactly what stupid TacAI decided to do.
  3. 1. RPG-7 does not have a "pure" HE round - only FRAG. There's no way soneone can mistake RPG's FRAG for HEAT. 2. FRAG packs quite a modest amount of explosives. HEAT is waaaay more loud. 3. FRAGs are hard to come by IRL. Lessons-learned report produced after First Chechen War does not support this. Most of the hits were for made to kill.
  4. The address of the CURRENT Ukrainian consulate in Transnistria. https://pmr.md/ff3f4433c816f3fed781fc95670d9471/news Passports were moved to Cisinau to punish Transnistrians for not supporting Ukrainian ethnic cleansing operations in Donbass but before that the procedure was very remarkable. To start the operation as soon as possible Ukraine RENTED A FLAT (sic!) in Tiraspol (the capital of Transnistria) and representatives of Ukrainian was shuttling once a week between Transnistria and Ukraine collecting documents and distributing passports. I'll quote you from an interview with a Transnistrian resident: When it was convenient for Ukraine it had no qualms about giving away its passports but now as the situation has been reversed Ukraine is crying foul. Just like this German's was "bad" SS but Ukraine's was only "good" SS.
  5. Ukraine conveniently forgets about its own deeds. More than 10% of the population of Transnistria have Ukrainian passports. Even the President of Transnistria is an Ukrainian citizen.
  6. There're also some "funny" things about Ukrainian "language law" It allows school education in native language for Hungarian and Romanian minorities in the Western Ukraine. But native language education for Russians in the Eastern Ukraine is strictly prohibited. If someone does as little as express his opinion in public that wider rights should be given to other languages the poor lad will spend up to 10 years in prison. Having such an opinion is a severe criminal offense in today's Ukraine The law was authored by Petro Poroshenko. He has no problems with Ukrainian citizens identifying themselves as of Hungarian or Romanian ethnicity but he and his nationalistic thugs want to totally eradicate anything related to Russian language.
  7. Absolutely correct. AFAIK RL range for PG-7VR is more like 100-150m - the grenade is certainly too heavy for its rocket motor. Just a little correction to the terminology. RPG-7xx has no penetration in itself - it's the name of the "tube". The difference in penetration are in rounds - PG-7V, -7VL, -7VR. RPG is Handheld Antitank Grenade launcher, PG is Antitank Grenade, TBG is Thermobaric Grenade, OG is Fragmentation Grenade. If we take RPG-7, RPG-7V1 and RPG-7V2 then the first will have iron sights and the other two - somewhat different optical sights capable of handling PG-7VR and TBG. Hope I'm not much of a nit picker
  8. And why do you think penetration is different? There's a good reason why CE is contrasted to KE
  9. Certainly they're different rounds - they have different rocket motors But the wareheads are the same.
  10. Please don't You're the one of not so many of us who has first hand experience with this stuff. It would be good if you at least let us know when see something out of the way in the game. It would train our brain models at least if not the game's
  11. My case is a squad in a Stryker and the latter does some short runs from cover to cover near buldings with enemy troops in non-Hidden position at 1st-3rd floors. The idea was to make the runs too short for enemy RPG to acquire the target. I repeated this few times and if an infantry squad sees the enemy it opens up. But I guess seeing enemy through a vision block must be too rare in itself. Plus it seems to be purely CMSF2 issue. I tested CMBS and the infantry does not open up. And I don't remember such a problem in CMSF1 though I'm too lazy to install it for a test by now
  12. RPG-7's PG-7VR uses the same warhead as RPG-29. Too much realism will probably make it too dull to play The only Soviet RPGs posing at least a remote threat to Western modern armor are RPG-29 and PG-7VR. CMxx portrays adversaries to have lots of RPG-29 and PG-7VRs as a standard ammo for RPG-7. IRL Iraqis had literally a handful of them so your RL statistics is based on PG-7VL that's known to be useless against cage armor and modern tanks Being in agreement with you on exaggerated first-hit probability in CMSF I suggest you have a look at CMBS. If I remember correctly the results of a somewhat limited test of mine to have an 80% probability of at least a single hit at 150m with Green/Rested/0 leadership troops one has to simultaneously launch at least 5 grenades. I haven't read about such a degree of coordination ever present in Iraq. But similar tactics and skills did stop the advance of Israeli armor during the last Lebanon War. I may add to the list of CMBS stuff that is wildly off. Mk19 enviable innacuracy: I posted CMBS tests vs. US Army shooting range examination guidelines. CMBS Mk19 and its troops are nowhere near being eligible to use Mk19 by US Army standards whatsoever Crazy underperformance of artillery bombardment against armored targets. I posted Soviet and American test results with pictures though it was quite a time ago - year or two or even more. Non-PG 120, 122 and 152mm artillery is practically useless against armor in CMBS whereas artillery barrages were absolutely deadly IRL. PS You'd better be patient about CMxx inaccuracies - BFC normally does not change anything in already released titles. Though 20 years ago when I first started playing CM titles and signed up for the forum sound user feedback did matter I remember it was possible to influence the game model by say digging up the results of some Russian test shooting of a German tank.
  13. Nope, that was not an alleged return fire - that happens every day and not remarkable in any way. It was exactly when firstly an honest soul from Ukrainian Armed Forces issues a video celebrating how accurate they are in hitting DNR positions with UAV observation capability and in few hours the Ukrainian Foreign Minister complains the Minsk cease fire is not heeded. --- Why was it possible for every conflict in the world but becomes impossible for Ukraine? Full scale disengagement WAS agreed by ALL four sides including Ukrainian representatives. Russian, French and German leaders were going to Paris talks expecting to sign one. It's just Zelensky chose his internal political expediency in the last moment. And why he did so? As we can see from the results of the 2019 Ukrainian parliamentary elections the majority of Ukrainian population is for the end of the hot phase of the conflict. Yet there's 8% minority that wants the war till the end. They range from ultra-nationalistic yet comparatively peaceful to the outright Nazis armed to teeth and organized in paramilitary and military structures. They lost the election so now they resorted to wield the influence through the threats of armed acts. Proofs that the Ukrainian Nazis are real and not a feat of Russian propaganda: Official slogan of all Ukrainian nationalistic forces is "Украина по над усе" - "Ukraine above all" a conscious rephrasing of "Deutchland uber alles" used by Nazi Germany. Here's the Azov batallion - not some street crazies but the SF detachment 3057 of the Eastern command of the Ukrainian National Guard. They are armed with MRAPs, BTRs, MT-LB armed with 23mm antiaircraft guns, and even have a company of T-64B1M tanks Azov's flag (left) and Das Reich SS division (to the right) And here are Azov's members and sympathizers Blue-yellow flag in the pictures is the flag of SS Division Galizien Some of the last known feats of this radical minority: Dec, 1, 2019 a sniper tried to assassinate Vyacheslav Sobolev a member of Kiev's city council who founded and reportedly still owned the biggest Donetsk's food chain. Ukrainian Security Service opened an investigation in 2016 into suspected payment of taxes to DNR yet the killers decided not to wait for the results of the investigation. The sniper tried to shoot Vyacheslav when he boarded his car yet unfortunately the car moved and instead of killing the mark the sniper shot away half the head of Vyacheslav's three years old son who was sitting next to his mother at that moment. Two members of Right Sector's Aratta battalion were quickly apprehended thanks to the CCTV camera feeds. One of the two had even been awarded a Ukrainian medal "For gallantry in action". Aratta battalion itself is well known when it refused to obey the C-in-C order to leave the front. Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ukrainian Security Service SOF troops were used to besiege and forcefully disarm the battalion. Needless to say not a single Aratta battalion member was disciplined for insubordination. Dec, 12, 2019 a sergeant of Ukrainian SOF, a medic of 25th Airborne Brigade and three "volunteers" - all members of the Right Sector were charged with killing of Pavel Sheremet - a Russian/Belorussian/Ukrainian journalist. The journalist was blown up in his girlfriend's car in 2016. Members of the Right Sector besieged the court building where arraignment hearings were held and SF unit of Ministry of Internal Affairs had to storm the court building to put the suspects into detention center. No Right Sector member was charged for the siege. Dec, 17, 2019 17 Ukrainian policemen were injured in clashes with members of the political wing of Azov battalion headed by former Azov commander - Andrey Biletsky. Dozens of Azov members were apprehended but were let go after Biletsky demanded their release. That's despite the fact that one of the policemen received a severe head injury requiring cranium trepanation. Nov, 6, 2019 Ukrainian State Bureau of Investigation opened a case against an MP from Poroshenko Party and a member of Right Sector - who recorded a video threatening reprisals against President Zelensky after he visited one of the three sectors agreed for disengagement in Minsk. They said that an "accidental shelling or a sniper bullet or a roadside mine may end Zelensky's life prematurely if he continues his acts". Search warrant was issued and a search was performed at the house of the Right Sector member where three pieces of small arms were recovered. Marussia Zverobiy - the Right Sector member - repeated her threats in another video after the search. Marussia was not apprehended and goes around absolutely free. --- These are not concessions, Russia demands Ukraine stick to the Minsk agreement it signed. First elections - then control over the border. It's just Ukraine signs agreements when it's convenient for it then breaks them when it's not no longer so. But there's a good reason for that, even Zelensky - a normally very careful in his language - said recently that he believes the people of Donbass who feel too attached to Russian cause should pack and leave for Russia. Certainly the Kremlin plan was exactly as you indicated but there's no reason Ukraine should indulge. The security track and political tracks are separate. Both sides can effect a full scale disengagement yet nothing precludes Ukraine from keeping DNR/LNR in a political limbo they exist in today. This would have ended the killings yet it would have given no political acceptance to DNR/LNR. Ukrainian pro-war parties clearly lost the elections - Zelensky counts 303 MPs in the Parlament together with pro-Russian parties whereas pro-war Poroshenko's and Svoboda - only 29. Hell, even clearly pro-Russian parties in Ukraine elected almost TWO TIMES MORE MPs than pro-war ones - 49 against 29. But having lost the elections Ukrainian ultra-nationalistic minority wants war at all costs, it's well-organized, armed to teeth and it considers itself above all laws and wishes of the majority of Ukrainians. "Ukraine above all" as Ukrainians nationalists say and they mean it. As Zelensky said in Paris: "If I discuss Minsk accords here you'd be speaking to a different president of Ukraine next time". --- PS All events and quotes mentioned in this post are checkable against the very Ukrainian mass media.
  14. Correct. Standing regulation provides for two cases when TLATGM are to be used. The first is when the target is beyond 2.0-2.5km (depending on the FCS and sights). The second is when the target's armor is above APFSDS penetration capabilities. I.e. T-55 facing T-90MA are to use TLATGMs irrespective of distance. I don't know why TLATGMs preferred over HEAT - probably due to HEATs having considerably lower velocities and thus lower Pks then APFSDS. IRL tankers hardly ever see TLATGMs and don't train with them due to the costs. So not sure a reasonable TC would choose a never tried TLATGM even if issued one over a HEAT which are trained with extensively - even more oftenly than with APFSDS as the latter quickly wears out the barrels. Russian tanks have considerably lower barrel life than Western ones. And Ukrainian tanks having late USSR barrels - less durable alloys, non-chrome lined - are significantly inferior to Russia's.
  15. IRL Russians use mid-90s sabots while the latest Ukrainian tanks have access to are Sovet ones of mid-80s. The whole idea of T-72B3 and likes was to redesign autoloader to allow the use of longer penetrators (though still considerably shorter and with significantly poorer performance than Western APFSDS of today).
  16. Reading Ukrainian mass media is real fun. 18.12.19 17:51 Ukrainian artillery successfully attacked DNR's fortified positions 18.12.19 22:25 Ukrainian Foreign Minister complains the ceasefire that was agreed upon is constantly violated, 40 people died since July Video of artillery attacks from the very Ukrainian press - https://storage2.censor.net/video/3/181219_uni.mp4 PS Finally, ...full scale disengagement cannot be discussed now as Zelensky is unsure he'll be able to persuade all Ukrainian forces to pull back from the front line.
  17. BTR-4 has way better situational awareness than BMPs - even BMP-3. BMPs stand no chance against BTR-4 in close encounters.
  18. https://www.janes.com/article/93163/rheinmetall-advances-next-generation-130-mm-tank-gun Rheinmetall advances Next Generation 130 mm tank gun
  19. Western press keeps mum on the fact that Zelensky backtracked in Paris on full disengagement argeed at advisors level by all four sides inculding Ukraine in September. He seems to be more wary of 24% that voted for Poroshenko than of 74% who voted for him. Having 2-3 KIAs a week on either side is more politically acceptable for Ukrainian establishment than ending the hot phase of the conflict. Even though the current situation has been going on for years and it does not lead anywhere.
  20. To count correctly you need to take sustained rather than cyclic RoF. You won't be able to keep Mk20 at 1000 rpms for long.
  21. K-5 significantly reduces APFSDS effects and Relikt even more so. It's not a marketinh hype since M829A3 and European non-initiatig APFSDS were developed exactly to counter K-5 effectiveness. Though still being an ERA K-5 and Relikt use a somewhat different mechanism than standard Western ERAs. HE won't shell-shock the crew, HESH will. HE has one too many interface to transfer the energy. Can you see the type of the projectile in game?
  22. Will it do any good? I might be wrong but as far as I've seen this "how-we-can-make-the-game-better" talk is pretty useless - BFC won't change anything. Like Mk19 performance is much more of a problem for the gameplay yet no change for... I dunno... Months? Years?
  23. Can be Kosovo, Libya, Syria, you name it...
