I had been running the game without any frame rate problems and then I decided to update my video driver for the fun of it. Once I did that the game slowed to a crawl. I went back to the old driver and the game works great again. I have a GeForce 7800 GTX. I am using 84.25 and had tried 93.71 unsuccessfully.
When I assault a gun I take out the crew that is not behind the shield. Then I attack with two squads. One crawls while the other one crouches. When the gun turns to target the crouching squad I have it go prone and then advance with the other squad. You can eventually get one squad to flank the gun or at least get within grenade range. Ideally this is a job for mortars, which are not in the game.
Just to follow up I haven't had any more crashes except the one I reported where a saved game doesn't load and then crashes. I've only had the problem with that one save so far.
How can it be vaporware when many people are playing it?
The minimum tech spec issue comes up with every game I play these days. There are cominations of components that will run the game and those that won't. BFC or any sofware developing company can't test their games on every possible configuration. When you try to run the minimum specs you run the risk that your machine won't be able to cut it.
