1. I have been playing it (almost exclusively) for over two years now and it is still worth every penny. Your mileage may vary
2. I am staying with CMBO for now. I do not doubt that I will migrate to CMBB at some point, but I am in no hurry. I am having as much fun now (more probably) with CMBO as I did when I bought it 2 years ago. I play PBEM almost exclusively with usually no more than 3 or 4 battles going at a time. Maybe I am still happy with it because the number of games I have played in the two years is much less than those who have lived with the AI or played a gazillion times. Whatever the case, it yet feels fresh to me and I'm still playing it
3. I viewed Michael's question from a point of view found in some of the train simulator games for instance. They have ongoing "expansion packs" or "service packs" which are sold. If it were a rather extensive expansion or whatever to a piece of software, then yes, I would pay for it. I personally do not mind paying for expansions but cringe at paying for what I consider corrections or fixes. --Randl
4. Indeed I took some photographs with a wimpy chintzy disposable camera. A word to the wise. They are only anygood at all, in daylight and up close when using the flash. I compared the few I took, with those you all took.....can't hold a candle. Time to pony up for a real camera One interesting thing Harv.....I had a couple of pictures that had that spotty look from inside the hut also. Flash reflections inside the focal length perhaps. Love the pictures fellows. Thank you much MadMatt for putting them up, great job! Going through the gallery brought various moments back in all their glory --Randl
5. Thank you for all you did sir! You added a lot to the day. I particularly enjoyed your comments and stories When you get tired of beating the tar out of the AI and want to try a PBEM with an easy mark, give me a shout. If I am not any better than the AI, I at least like to think I am more interesting than the AI opponent --Randl
6. Well said gentlemen, all I can do is concur in the highest. Great folks, impressive sights and experiences; a day of fellowship to be remembered. What an environment to see CMBB in!! --Randl
7. The catalogues are extraordinary! I can't imagine it getting any better than how you are doing it. The thumbnails, the ease of use, the comprehensiveness. It's downright impressive --Randl
8. I am still planning on being there. Still a lot of maintenance I need to get done with the start of our school just around the corner but I am figuring to make it. One last day away will be good for me, particularly a day like this --Randl
9. August 6th is a Tuesday so it may be more the boss than the wife, or at least that will be my problem I second the Bardstown museum. Another small but close site is Fort Duffield. It is an earthen fort with a view to the river and is just up the road towards Louisville from Ft. Knox. A non-profit group and volunteers have done some nice things with it. I'm an hour and half away in Southern Indiana and penciling this in. I'm hoping to ink it in later --Randl
10. Hey, have it around Ft. Knox or Louisville, KY! That way it would close enough that I could go In fact it is time to get back to the Patton Museum as it is. The bi-annual pilgrimage you know
11. Very nice sir. The background came up pretty as you please right off the bat this time. Didn't have to refresh either. --Randl
12. Good Day Sir, I am very pleased to see the Outpost coming alive again. It was always a favorite. I have not gone to every last page of the site so I cannot speak for it all from my viewing. The only places so far that I have seen the dark background (Sherman tank in negative) is in the Mods section when opening an actual picture comparison page. In particular I visited pages representing DD's and Tiger's work and on those pages there was a dark background. Every where else I have been on the site is a white background with text in a light grey except for colored fonts in menu items and such. --Randl
13. Before I came to play CMBO I played PGII at the Freedom Fighters club. PGII has nothing but scenarios. There are no generated battles of any sort. It was common procedure to play Mirrored games in which we would play each side of a scenario at the same time with one another. I feel that playing Mirrors adds a balancing aspect to the play when there is a limited number of scenarios that have been played umpteen times by the participants. Mirror play also makes playing unbalanced scenarios more palatable for ladder play as by rights you will win one lose one. I can see a place for Mirror play in CMBO in some instances. However, with the ability to generate QB's with rule sets and the like, I have not felt the desire to do any. Regards, --Randl
14. I like these rules. I think they can be particularly useful for players new to ladder play. I like them when playing new people in CM for the first times. I also think they can be great in tournament play. After having played a few games with a new CM friend it is true that the rules typically go out the window as we know each other and have found someone with which to try different things with the game. Between strangers I think the rules can really help the stepping off on the right foot A question: why isn't the Hotchkiss tank be considered for Recon play? --Randl
15. Oh great!!! This means I am a gamey bastiche after all!!! You mean I shouldn't really look at the map to be called a DoubleBlind player Anyone who has ever lost to me in a doubleblind scenario, I do hereby declare that forthwith in the histories of time you shall now be declared the victor. Stand in line boys for your credit coupons I like playing scenarios. I like to play scenarios in what I thought was double blind mode. Neither I nor my opponent have played the scenario; that fits my definition of double blind. HOWEVER...I have never had any qualms with either one of us reading a briefing and giving the map a cursory examination. I always open the scenario to see what the map looks like. I choose scenarios as much by how they look as by the briefing and such. When Tom's Ardennes mod came out I immediately rushed to the Depot and looked at scenarios that looked good with it. As a gentleman I cannot in good conscience study the map or examine the OOB's and the like as that would be crossing the line out of the blind zone just a little to much. But jeepers I sure do like seeing if it is a nice looking map or not. I guess this is one more little item to put in the contract before you play me --Randl
16. Forgive me for jumping in here, but you have excited me with this thread. The generic unit markers could be birds. Birds are supposed to be in the air. Birds come in little and big. Birds belong in an outdoor picture. Think of the modding possibilities...ducks, geese, hawks, parakeets, condors and vultures...I'm excited! --Randl
17. You're quite welcome sir. Glad I was in the right place at the right time as it were I had forgotten all about the "Manx's temporary holding area" until just the other day when I was on a Mod seach and basically stumbled over it again. I sure do miss that master list layout that Manx had when Combat Missions was up and going. The site was like a Mod reference Superstore in it's day, he sure did a whale of job with that. I'm with you; glad it's not all gone! Regards, --Randl
18. Happy Easter Sir, I think you were almost there. Goto CMHQ _and_ then go to Manx's Combat Missions temporary holding area (it's on the sidebar). There at the top of the Axis vehicles list you will find Mr.Tuckers Stug. All best, --Randl
19. 613.bmp paved road / bridge top (as listed in the readme.txt of Tom's Ardennes mastermod) --Randl --Randl
20. "Eye of the Tiger" Looks REALLY good with the Bulge Mods. Almost makes you want to get down at level one and hike back and forth between positions Hmmmm...Iron Man play ought to be neat with the Bulge Mods in place, for those that enjoy it. --Randl
21.
quote:
Originally posted by Hitman: hi all, i just have CMBO en i'm happy with it BUT i want to know something : the missions ( senarios ) is it the meaning to play the senarios ONE FOR ONE or is it just the same when take an other mission nr10 then nr20 etc.... ?

Welcome sir! The scenarios are not played in special order. They are listed by first letter. Each is by itself. Play the ones that sound fun to you...enjoy
22. It looks a lot like a United States T28 Super Heavy Tank (T95 105mm Gun Motor Carriage) One of these is on outdoor display at the Patton Museum, Ft. Knox, KY. Originally designed to work against the West Wall. First prototype completed in December 1945, to late to see combat. Only two completed. Had two tracks so as not to sink into the ground on cross country travel. The outer track assemblies were designed to be removed to allow transport by truck or rail.
23. My favorite and the one I use is the muted Lo-Res version of the Richard Tremblett Velvet Touch Grass. I do not know who muted it though. I have the readme for it but it is not signed by the muting author and I cannot remember now from whence I picked it up...I sure like it though
24. Thank you very much to all of you that have made recommendations from your personal reading lists. Making comment on the books you have liked best has been very helpful. The input has made finding an intelligent starting point a little easier. I apologise for restarting a previously hashed over topic. Thanks again for the help. My best to you all, --Randl
