  2. I have never seen any vehicle reverse out of danger in CMSF. Am I missing this?
  3. Do these spotting issues have anything to do with how civilian density creates situations where spotting becomes difficult. Not saying this is right, but just a thought.
  4. For me and the group of six people I PBEM with, its the amount of time it will take to get CMSF to where we think it should be. Admittedly, I expected CMSF to have all the things we came to love in CM1, but with a RT option, better graphics, and 1:1. It may not be what we wanted, but it is what we expected. I can speak for seven of us in saying for all the steps forward, we took a lot of steps back from a WEGO perspective. Patching has brought a few back, but it sure seems like we may be talking years to get to the point I can say it is a similar experience to CM1 (keep in mind it is six months now). I don't mean all the doodads CM1 had, but the feeling I got that I could get realistic results from a cobbled together scenario. I think its that kind of thought that is keeping the community out of the CMSF sandbox. Those people who would be most interested in CM scenario or mod building are busy still doing it for CM1. As for negative comments, they really only mean something if the demo either reinforces it or confirms it. Of the people I play with three never bought it because the demo was crap (their words). the other four of us bought it sight unseen. I don't regret it, but if I had played the demo, I might have waited.
  5. While I have noticed a little more game activity at the blitz, I wouldn't call it lively after 6 months of release. There is still quite a bit of negativity and I think the debate is still going about closing the ladder. I think a lot of people there are waiting to see how those games play out before doing anything. I personally have tried two 1.05 PBEM games and both ended before finishing due to odd bugs showing up several turns in. I just double checked: No active ladder games report since 12/27. A grand total of two CMSF ladder games reported. Averaging 1 or 2 posts a day on the forum, at best. Two pending requests for opponents in the last week, with only one getting a response. Gamesquad may actually be more active with someone still trying to put a tournament together for the last few months. Although, I think it has not been able to get off the ground. I like playing around with CMSF, but am very disappointed at the community support. It just hasn't caught on anywhere near games like CM1, SP, or CC. I was really hoping that after six months, all the CM1 sites would have thriving CMSF sections. [ January 08, 2008, 06:39 AM: Message edited by: thewood ]

  7. Go read the CM1 boards and you'll see a bunch are still producing. Maybe someone should recruit them.

  9. Well go ahead and use the cannon. I'm not saying cover arc armor is saying "use ATGM". Just don't decide to pop off on a squad 900m away.
  10. How about like in CM1, where you can tell a unit to cover arc for armor and ignore everything else except for safety. Another one of those things that needs to be reinvented. I just built a scenario where I wanted a BMP1 to cover a road to ambush a Bradley. Instead, it openned up on a US squad that entered its arc at 900m and wouldn't fire its ATGM at the Bradley. I am not sure what to do to force it to fire at its ATGM.
  11. That is a question I've asked several times. It seems like sometimes there is, but not very consistently. I think sounds may get lumped in with other spotting routines. I oiked CM1 where it was very specific about the sound contact, even had varying intelligence. I am not sure we ever got a clear answer.
  12. There are all kinds of issues with WEGO from AI to PBEM to resetting unit status at the beginning of replay. Most of the issues have been talked about already, but right now, I struggle with WEGO. The only way I find 1.05 playable is in RT. I think the whole WEGO thing needs a good going over to make it playable.

  15. I didn't see Steve mention this in any detail. I have sent him a couple of save games showing specific non-reactions of APCs when confronted with tanks. Where was it talked about, I must have missed it.
  16. Z, you were too nice in your initial post so Steve looked in and assumed everything was OK. Try a swear word. Mix it up a little. Get a beta tester PO'ed at you. He may hear the noise and look in.

  19. Well, four months as of today. I have a feeling it was expectations around 1.05 fixing a lot. It has definiely made it more playable, but still a lot of issues around. I can completely understand the feeling. If I hadn't already invested a lot of my time in CMSF, I would probably feel very similar.
  20. Make sure you set aside a special line for the bren tripod.
  21. I haven't tested to see if they will button up under an arty barrage. I may do that tonight unless someone has seen it.
