  1. Do I need some sort of special program to take a screen shot for CM? I've tried print screen but that didn't seem to do it. I did a search but couldn't find specifics about "How To" Thanks, Goofy ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  2. Another question to consider ntg84 is if your HQ has organic mortars avaliable and gives the fire order will he fire his own small arms also, possibly revealing HIS position and suffering the inevetable counterfire as he IS a priority target! HQ's affect too many things to let them move about unmolested! Obviously it's best to keep them out of the front line but there are times when the tactical situation requires them to be in there with the troops! ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  3. Michael emrys said: . But even more, artillery requires a surveyed site with aiming stakes in order to be used indirectly. This requires preparation time that exceeds the length of a CM scenario. Michael, you don't believe that all of Europe was surveyed and staked for FO's do you? That's why you have spotting rounds and adjustment. With luck you have a decent map and some recognizable land mark to adjust from. I'm not asking whether to buy SPA or FO's, I'm trying to deal with how to use them effectively when a scenario I'm playing comes with them. As far as the historical end of this, I believe they'd have a jeep with a FO with the SPA or mortar carriers with a radio net ONLY for their own battery Call it a HQ or call it a FO! There should be some organic unit to serve the purpose. I don't know the programing aspects of this but that's why I a gamer and NOT a programer. I don't expect BTS to dance to my tune, I'm happy to be playing THEIR game! I'm just asking for other's experience on how to best employ what I'm issued. Of course I do know that they read these posts and maybe they will choose to address this! Hehehe! ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  4. Didn't these self propelled units have spotters like their non-motorized counterparts or a way to be assigned to a HQ unit? In a mech infantry unit the mortar carriers SHOULD work (vis-a-vie HQ) as well or actually easier than a leg infantry unit. After all, adding a radio etc would be easier than if you're having to carry everything by hand. ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  5. Wow! Took a little over 2 hours for an answer directly from the designer, I'm impressed! And I'm sure Tanaka's about to tell me to go look at the Search Option to see all the other times they've done this! LOL! ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries! [This message has been edited by Goofy (edited 08-24-2000).]
  6. I have read those pages, that's not a question about mechanics, I'm looking for player experience with judging times. As far as targeting on map, the book talks about targeting with HQ units for mortars but my motorized mortars and guns don't seem to function that way, I assumed because they weren't organic to the inf formations. I'm trying to find out how to do that with "armor" units. ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  7. We need the "twang" kind of sound of the spring to make it right! I remember that from "A Bridge Too Far", sounded like some kind of broken toy. The French had them also didn't they?
  8. I thought that's what the AI was for, learning how to accomplish your mission on the battlefield thru trial and error. That way when you start PBEM or Hotseat games you at least know what you want to do, THEN you find out for sure that there's no ONE right way to do anything, but lot's of wrong ways! ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  9. Yep, those empty trucks look like halftracks on the "Sound Contact". I also like the way ALL German tanks are "Tiger?" just the way most Allies saw them! ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  10. I understand that in WW2 a spotter couldn't know EXACTLY when his rounds would fall but I seem to have times when I'll have a spotter get stuck on 1 minute for 2 or 3 minutes. I assume that the time is a guess but how close? I've had one get to 12 seconds and spend a turn waiting but nothing happens. Secondly, when I get mortar carriers or SPA why can't someone spot for them? If I ever get them into vis of a target they get killed pretty quickly, and SPA fares like it should in a tank fight, makes a nice fire! How do I get them into action in an indirect fire mode? That's the weapon they mount so that MUST have been the way they were intended to be used. ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  11. The german vehiles really need the foliage look! Most pictures I see showed extensive foliage application because of the allied air threat, too bad that can't be done. Maybe by CM2 that will be a possibility. I'd love to see the possibility of breaking up the sillouette lines, could even work to improve HIDE for a vehicle. Also someone mentioned areials for command tanks, etc. From the support I've seen from BTS I suspect if these improvements surface in later versions of CM there's a good chance of them being patched into CMBO. ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries! 12. When will the Tiger be avaliable for DL? It appears to be part of a new ModPac, is that correct? And please, how about a "How to" article on this great scheme work! ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  13. Over the years I've learned that game reviews are like movie reviews, I make up my own mind! So the loudest clown over there at The History Channel/UK doesn't like CM, I don't feel the earth shaking! I could care less and to tell the truth, I figure we're better off without that type. I understand that this is about someone with an entrenched mind slamming anything that doesn't fit their own particular view of what's fun but anyone who listens to that type arguement is just waiting on the lemmings (hamsters with a death wish?) to run by! 14. Please Fox (and others), how about an article on Mod work such as this? I'm seeing some great work (some historical and some just kewl) and I'd appreciate some pointers on how you do it. I'm sure I'm not the only one and I think the Articles section at CMHQ would give the maximum access to all of us!
  15. You have gotten this figured out, so how about getting with Mad Matt and doing an article for CMHQ on how to do it? I'd love to take a crack at it myself and I'm sure there's other model builders out there who would also!
  16. Scepter said.... CM5: A Walk in the Sun (Sicily, Italy & possibly the Balkans) CM6: Halls of Montezuma (Pacific Theater) Both great war movies that really fit the CM theater. That's something that I really notice about the "personalization" aspect of this game, would be the perfect format for recreating movie scenarios and operations. Seeing the great portraits that are being made avaliable to us makes me wish I could personalize even more, give each squad leader, tank cmdr, etc, a particular portrait, I"ve heard that this is outside the limits of the game AT THIS POINT but when I start seeing the project list for the next few years posted this is one of the "little" things I would put on the wish list!
  17. Cuchulainn said..Some of the 1982 Falkands/Malvinas War assaults would also be possible. Boy, does this give me ideas! It could be done with what we already have, just have to shuffle things around a bit, hmmmm. Need to go look at the avaliable equipment again.
  18. Saw the other message on the board after I posted this. For some reason even if I refresh for the topic list I don't see the newest topics, after I posted this one I got a new list of topics which included the patch. What do I need to be doing to correct this?
  19. When the last patch came out (103) we were able to work around by one player holding on to the PBEM turns while player two updated, then player one sent the turns to player two and then installed the patch before the turns came back. Will this method work with the new patch? Goofy
  20. When I see someone attack the person in the arguement rather than what the point of the arguement is, I cease hearing them. At that point I believe their view is not as importnat to THEM as being right or should I say the winner! Goofy
  21. OK, we've been to the dark side, now what do you see as the best war movies (Let's stick to WW ver2.0) I think "Das Boat", another german production "Stalingrad" (If you haven't seen it, find it, sub-titled but I hear the DVD can be watched in English), got to include "Cross of Iron". Also I liked "A Walk in the Sun" even though it was made almost as a propagands film. "Battleground" was kinda short on action but I still think it's classic. Since we're talking WW2 I guess I'll have to leave out "Porkchop Hill". I guess we could almost give seperate awards for story, correct equipment, actually following history, and others. Goofy
  22. The Conqueror -- The Duke as Genghis Khan; 'nuff said. Interesting fact, it was shot in the area where the first A-Bombs were tested, got a real sweet deal on the lease to film there! If you see the movie look at all the dust from riding those horses around. "Oddly enough" John Wayne, Susan Haworth, Thelma Ritter and other principal actors and untold numbers of extras (mostly indians) died of lung cancer. Go figure.
  23. Not only was the Green Berets bad but it has one of the all time movie mistakes. At the end of the flick (which is also the end of the day) John Wayne stands on the beach with the little Viet Namese waif and gives his "moral" (or morale as the case may be) speach as the sun goes down! WAIT, I guess they were on South Viet Nam's west coast! I went to school with several guys who were extras in the movie (action shots done at Fort Benning) and I saw the movie with one of them. He was used as ARVIN, VC and NVA and pointed out a sequence where he was battleing himself!! And they call me....Goofy
  24. One thing I've noticed and always wondered about are the pictures you see of ATG's IN ACTION sitting in a road engaging targets! I've seen enough to know these aren't "Staged" shots, I've seen sequence shots and see a knocked out tank beyond them. What kind of bravery (or foolishness?) would it take to sit IN the open and wait on a target? I've seen these pictures and wondered how they could get the photographer to stay there and take the pictures? I wouldn't want to be anywhere around! So....is the ATG just that hard to spot? I've seen pictures like this where the gun has kill rings on the barrel so these weren't green troops who didn't know any better!Comments?....
  25. JD, I'm running a 56K modem, no cable avaliable here unfortunately and that would only solve half the problem, 56K modem at the other end too! LOL I wonder when we get TCP/IP will this still be a problem? It's only the movie that makes for a slow UL/DL, when we're ploting it's pretty quick.
