  1. I think Elijah has the correct answer. "....so the best way to stop this is to play with people that you trust." I've played single games with strangers before who I really didn't care to play with a second time. Some times this is just a matter of my taste such as "historical" vs "gamey" or as it has been put.."the spirit of the game". I try to make sure my philosophy of what we're setting up matches my opponent's, that way we each know what to expect somewhat. If I feel there is something fishy in a ladder or tourney situation then I report my suspicions to the moderator and wait and see. My experience is that I won't be the only one they cheat! Besides, there's always the brick to the forehead and the pool to drag them thru! Hehehe! ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries! 2. It works right now! Both players MUST have DirectX 8.0 We have been using RogerWilco, Battlecom and Team Sound sucessfully. I assume others will work also. There's individual preferences on which program to use but make sure and set it up for PTT, otherwise the firefights activate your mike and comes back over your opponents mike and back and forth. You end up stuck in some sort of wierd time warp deal! ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  3. Have used Rogerwilco, Battlecom and Team Sound. Seems it's not the commo program. It worked for me with all of these but not for Dave until he went to DirectX 8.0. We tried many different configurations but to no avail. DirectX 8.0 and Taadaaa! It works! Goofy ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  4. You mean instead of playing that joke that killed them in their tracks? Hehehe! Goofy ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  5. Ever since the TCP/IP patches came out Dave T and I have been working on getting commo working so we could actually talk (and taunt each other) while we were playing. We have basically identical systems with the same versions of drivers, etc but we've been unable to get it working at both ends. Mine worked, I could hear him in or out of the game but as soon as he entered the game the commo cut off. He could only hear game sound while I could hear both. I had to type my replies to him. Last night we discovered he still had DirectX 7.0 where I had 8.0 so he DLed the newer version. Now we have continuous commo! That seems to be the answer! Looking back I realize that until I upgraded (got a new HD a month ago and had to get all new drivers and such) mine cut off as I entered the game also. Thought I'd pass that along for others. 6. IDF, I just upgraded my RAM to 256 and it took all the chop out of the action. I was at 128 but I don't think I have a single origional texture left. In most cases I'm using the hi-res version if there is an option for it. I'm still using a 16meg Voodoo Banshee card on a P3 450, DirectX 8.0 and I was begining to see some chop. If I turned down the tree coverage etc it helped but with the added RAM I've eliminated the problem. I guess I'll eventually HAVE to upgrade the video card but seems to work well now.
  7. OK, DLed and installed Team Sound and it works for me (as did RW and BC) but not for my opponent. Although I have mine set for DirectX would changing it to WAV help? We (Dave T and myself) have our systems configured the same, drivers, com program versions, all settings. Any other ideas? 8. I don't seem to be able to find it in their catalog, who is the manafacturer (of the CD ROM, not the tank) or do you have a part #? Thanks. Goofy ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  9. Personally, I would rather see it as one large DL. I'm used to making large DL's (Hey, it's free, just make a 100 meg DL!) and although my cable isn't ready yet, I'm sure there are many who already have it or DSL etc who think nothing of a 25 Meg DL or 125 for that matter! If the traffic is going to be easier for you to handle in small bites then that seems to be the best method. Doesn't do anyone any good if it's avaliable and no one can make the connection to get it. I assure you that however you do it there will be plenty of players happy to use that method. ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  10. I'm also willing to show my support and belief in the product by pre-ordering as I did with CMBO! Any idea when that will start? ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  11. I see the mines before I get to them. In some instances it's after I've plotted and I'm moving but it's rare that that happens. Just played a scenario where my opponent had one (mine field) and I was at least 250m or more away when the sign appeared and it was before I plotted. I have some odd things happen like that at times for instance my commo programs work RW and BC) while I'm in TCP/IP games. I hear the game noises and my oponent although they can't hear me, I have to type. ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries! 12. Seems since the minefield sign shows to your enemy (I assume everyone sees them) it would be a nice option to buy mine field signs without the mines or have two phony for each real. Let them figure out with engineers or movement which is the real one in your shell game. As with many tactics it's the threat as much as the reality that serves you! ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  13. OK, we tried it again this evening with my opponent setting up the com channel with the same results, I can hear him IN the game but he can't hear me. I am the one who is hosting the TCP/IP connection. Any ideas? ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries! 14. Last night was my first chance to play a TCP/IP game and I ran into something very surprising (at least it was to me). We were using Roger Wilco to set the game up and when I went into the game my opponent was guiding me through the set up when it struck me that I was inside the game but I could still hear him and talk back. I could even hear the game sounds at the same time (engines running, etc). When he entered the game I could still hear him but, as usual, when he entered the game he could no longer hear me. Our systems are the same, we have the same sound card, the same version of the driver, same version of the game (Public Beta ver.1.1b24)and the same version of Roger Wilco (Mk 1c)so my questions are...why would the com program work for me but not him? Is the com program supposed to work in the game? Is anyone else able to use coms in the game? After checking through all these variables we decided to try a different com program so we went to Battlecom with the same results, worked for me, not for him. It works for me through all parts of the game, I could hear him while all the different game sounds were going on, guns firing, men yelling, etc. In both cases I was the one who was hosting the com program but I'm not sure if that would make a difference. As it stands now he talks and I have to type in the answers! Goofy ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  15. I appreciate it but mine hit's the line NO AGP and then I get a procession of kernel numbers!
  16. Where do I find the Bug Report Form? I'd like to go ahead and send it in, I find that I miss doing my PBEM turns when I get in from work in the mornings and if I can change whatever it is in my computer's configuration that is causing the crash to the desktop I'd like to fix it. Also where do I send it to you? Thanks! Goofy
  17. Thanks Matt. I'll wait on the update and DL again. I have saved the Error log so if the update doesn't fix it I'll send in the Bug Report Form and the Error log. ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  18. I have been using Ver. 1.05 with no problems. I installed the Public Beta Version and now when I hit the GO button I'm returned to the desktop with no CM running. I have P3 450 running Win 98 and have been using CMBO with no problem for months. When I launch the game now it says I'm running Ver.1.1b16. I have tried to play a scenario and to send a PBEM turn. The PBEM was set up using Ver.1.1b16 and everything loads and runs as usual until I hit the GO button, then I find myself on the desktop again. I suspected a corupt DL so I DLed again and reinstalled. No change. Help!
  19. If I open 1.05 it opens as it always did, of course since these new games I'm playing were created using the BETA version when I try to start one of them I get the screen message that I need to update my version. I'm off to bed for the day but I'll check back this afternoon. ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  20. Running P3 450 with Win 98. When I launch the game the screen says it Public Beta Version 1.1b16, I was at Ver. 1.05 before I installed the patch. ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  21. I installed the BETA patch and now I'm unable to play regular PBEM games. I plot my turn and when I hit the GO button I find myself on the desktop with no CM game open. Am I doing something wrong or is this a problem that others are experiencing? I'm working long hours right now and only get time to do a couple of PBEM turns each morning so I haven't had time to go through the Forum files to see if this is a known bug or something unique to my current configuration. ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  22. CM has ruined me for more reasons than one. The support from BTS and the community of CM players is fantastic! All the mods keep me hopping, trying to decide on what I want to change the looks off to suit MY personal tastes. The things like Tom's CD case cover (already on the case that had my old handlettered cover) and services like http://tournamenthouse.com/CM/ and CMHQ among others which are avaliable to us. The play by the AI which is not predictable after a while like most games. The near instant replies from BTS on questions and suggestions. What worries me now is playing in the other periods that I like to wargame in, love to see this format for ACW, Nap and Ancients. The 3D, FOW and WEGO system would be so good with those, make cavalry and light infantry do their jobs in a historical manner! Hard to complain while you're being spoiled, huh!?! Goofy ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  23. Whaile playing The Magnificent 7 I had the same thing happen. Once I realized that knocked out tanks didn't block the bridge (watched a Stuart push a Sherman aside!) I tried targeting it with direct and indirect fire but never got it. Can a bridge be knocked out this way and what size rounds are needed for wooden and stone bridges? Goofy ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  24. Look at CMHQ and check Fionn Kelley's translation of the German training circular called Panzer Vorwarts! Aber mit Verstand! Good ideas there from the officers in action. Goofy ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
  25. I'm also looking forward to the "global community" thing that TCP/IP will give us. Right now I play 2 PBEM games at once so that we are both playing a turn at the same time, gives us that nonstop action! Will this "timed" option be just for TCP/IP or will it be avaliable for Hotseat also? The timed play is a must for some opponents that I play hotseat with, a one minute turn seems to take them 15-25 minutes to play!
