  1. The SA80's teething troubles are such that they've been recalled by the Army, and sent to Heckler&Koch for rework ( a British company!!) I have used the SA 80...you can't miss...It's ****ing accurate....It just needs a full strip every 50 rounds or so :-O
  2. I know this is an old post, but I've been looking through the archives, and i need to add my 2c worth on the MG42 story Ian Hogg...noted weapons historian, provided evidence that the US did indeed try to copy the MG42. A protortype was produced, and a 10,000 round endurance test was arranged in front of the assembled Brass. The copy barked into life, fired about 10 rds and jammed!! Analysis of the weapon revealed that the draughtsman that produced the plans made an error, that made the recoil assembly 1/4 inch too short. The project was scrapped after that.

Check out your local model shop, rather than your usual software hut, There maybe a mention at www.tamiya.com My local model shop was good enough to lend me the tamiya rep's business card/cd rom, with samples on. There is a great table of penetration ranges and shot type, etc. You gotta get it! Moriarty....I may not be the first to use Wittmann, but thanks for the welcome anyway....fancy a battle?

  9. 28 pounds sterling I've been browsing for 2 hours now, and barely scratched the surface (rather like a sherman) It has english translation of 3 field manuals..maintainance, operation, and 88mm gunnery!!!!! It is really well put together. I'm hooked
  10. Heads up guys, Tamiya, much beloved by the modellers amongst us have just released a series of source CDs. I just got the tiger 1 today ..... It's fantastic. Plans, stills, camo schemes, tech specs, markings, 360 degree photos, movies. They also do T34, and Sherman M4, plus planes The series has just launched so more subjects to follow. Enjoy!
  11. The tiger was particularly prone to throwing a track when performing a neutral turn as mud and debris would accumulate in the tracks. Crews training would attempt to compensate for the slow turret by turning the hull to assist gun laying, but in combat the risk of throwing a track made this very risky. Replacing a track is a job which takes a minimum of an hour in good conditions so couldn't be achieved in an 'average' CM battle. Under fire the job would be suicidal , so the choice is stay and fight, or do a Bravely Bold Sir Robin....
  12. Would this mean ROLLING THUNDER instead of 200mm rockets? Napalm on the tree line Recon by fire The mad minute Tanks loaded with Beehive (cannister)for those close tank vs infantry. I'd better stop, I'm starting to drool :-p'

  14. Thanks for the replies troops. I did realise there were 4 legs to the carriage, I only mentioned the two moveable ones Ahhh! I feel much better being one of the collective!
  15. Has anyone commented on the 88's inability to fire whilst hitched. From my research, hasty deployment could be made by lowering the two moveable legs which made up the cross shaped base, without the need to remove the wheeled bogeys. I'm sure there's a term to cover this but it escapes me for the moment. P.S. I have so far escaped official assimilation......do the decent thing CMBorg!
  16. One defence expert claimed that the kursk was on a live fire exercise and that Russian torpedos use chemicals for propulsion (hydrogen peroxide ,amongst others) which are highly reactive with water. A fuel leak was suggested , which when the torpedo tubes were flooded prior to firing, caused the catastrophic explosions. The same fuel combo was considered by the US and UK and deemed too dangerous
  17. It largely depends on your tactical frame of mind, who supports who. A programme on tanks on discovery, had a British armour expert stating that UK doctrine for the time had 'Infantry support' tanks being little more than smoke dischargers, typically carrying 4 HE and 20-odd smoke. Something in 'anti-tank' guns made them unsuitable for UK HE rounds. I bet you'd feel short changed on your points spend, when you only get 4 HE for your Infantry suport! :-( ------------------ And lo, I shall walk in the valley of death, but I shall fear no evil, for I am the meanest sonofabitch in the whole Goddamn valley.
  18. I've often thought that a couple of mg42's at Rourke's Drift against the Zulus might have swung it.
  19. oh..and the patches of course! [This message has been edited by Wittmann (edited 07-26-2000).]
  20. Aha, thought I`d grab your attention. Have you noticed how easy a full reinstall is since CM was released? This is due to the fact that only Windows and CM needs to be installed, everything else is irrelevant ------------------ And lo, I shall walk in the valley of death, but I shall fear no evil, for I am the meanest sonofabitch in the whole Goddamn valley.
  21. Have any of you guys seen Dragon's offerings in historical action figures....they're the best http://www.dragon-models.com/html/nigel.html 'Nigel' is an SAS trooper, but they do WWII figures, including Waffen SS, mounted soldiers...you name it, the range is expanding. ------------------ And lo, I shall walk in the valley of death, but I shall fear no evil, for I am the meanest sonofabitch in the whole Goddamn valley.
