  1. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by CMplayer: Was the scenario/QB a night battle?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Come to think of it, it was, yes. However, I was playing this scenario with only Partial fog-of-war. Odd. Never even thought about that. Thanks Chuckd
  2. Hello, everyone. Just curious if anyone has seen friendly fire in CM? I'm not talking about an infantry platoon taking a casualty because a tank fired too close or something like that. Here's the scenario. Quick battle featuring the Waffen SS vs. Canadian forces with the SS on the defensive. Well, let's just say that I "miscalculated" the overall strength of the onrushing Canadians and by turn 20 or so things were pretty well over. Here's the interesting part. A rifle squad had been taking fire and was low on ammo so I pulled them back to a safer position. At the same time I pulled a beaten up MG42 crew out of the same area. Well, when the rifle squad reached their house, they turned around and opened fire on the MG42 crew! I checked, checked, and rechecked that targeting line. There were no hidden canadian units around the MG42 (none within 100M or so) and it was quite distinctly a red line from the rifle squad to the MG42 crew when the rifle squad was selected. Anyone seen this and/or know why it happened? Chuckd
  3. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Marlow: In a city fight they can be great just light up an enemy occupied building, and once it catches fire, watch his men run into the street. Got an entire platoon this way one time. The Flamethrower itself didn't kill anyone, it was the rifles of the engineer platoon that did the actual damage.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Thanks for the tip! Must be my approach tactics. I will work on these. Chuckd
  4. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by StellarRat: I like flamethrowers. They are incredibly effective if you know how to use them. Well worth the price.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> So, exactly how does one go about using Flamethrowers correctly? Every single time I use them they just get smoked. Are they strictly a defensive ambush weapon or what? Any tips, grogs?
  5. Ok, well, I renumbered them and this is what I got. Is it supposed to look like this? I renumbered them from 1500 - 1519. That apparently was not right? Chuckd ------------------ Check out my B-17 fiction story at: http://www.geocities.com/cdouglasn/TFTS.html
  6. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Juju: ...So either you have a low-end machine, or your video card just can't handle it, or it's me who's talking out of my arse. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Its one of the first two. Trust me! My current computer is junk, but my new one is being built as I type. I'll try renumbering the grass textures to see if that licks the problem. I'll let you guys know soon. 7. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Old Dog: ...You migh try the low res version of the files (On Kump's site) - they look nearly as good and are only 1/4 the size (128 x 128). Maybe if the problem is "fitting" them into vid memory that will solve it. - Old Dog<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I could do that. Or, I could wait a week until I get my new monster system delivered. (1GHz, 256Ram, GeForce, etc. Purchased specifically for B-17II) (!) Actually, I think I will download the lo-res stuff and see how it goes. The grass textures just look too good to pass up. Thanks for all your help, Old Dog. Chuckd ------------------ Check out my B-17 fiction story at: http://www.geocities.com/cdouglasn/TFTS.html
  8. Well, I just learned that its a universal problem. No matter what I try and do, CM refuses to use anything other than the default grass textures. I just spent 1.75 hours downloading madmatt's modpack 1 and the grass textures remain unchanged in the game. In the C:\CMBO\BMP directory they are the correct, newly-downloaded files, but for some reason the game will not recognize them. I know I copied them to the right directory because the bases for scattered trees and woods are correct and look quite good. This is frustrating. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any assistance you guys can offer. Chuckd ------------------ Check out my B-17 fiction story at: http://www.geocities.com/cdouglasn/TFTS.html
  9. Thanks for the info, but it didn't help. I've checked all of these. I have only one bmp folder in my CMBO directory as I don't have many mods. I know that mods will work because tiger's firefly mod worked. Why I can't get the grass texture to work is beyond me. Is it a possible video card issue or something along those lines? 10. I think we're overlooking something here, guys. Of all the people who have previewed it and actually got their hands on it for some time have had nothing but positive remarks for it. Check out Viking1's preview at www.combatsim.com if you think I'm joking. Yeah, there's no demo. Wayward stated that was a time constraint issue. Plus, it was Hasblo's choice, not Wayward's. Yeah, there's no MP. That was also Hasblo's choice. In order to get the sim out this year they dropped it. Wayward has openly admitted to being just as disappointed about it as the rest of us are. I mean, come on, do you really think they founded and supported online squadrons just to pull the plug at the last minute? I think that this sim is going to be engrossing and immersive as is physically possible. And I for one am looking forward to it. ------------------ Check out my B-17 fiction story at: http://www.geocities.com/cdouglasn/TFTS.html
  11. Hi guys! I need a bit of help. I can't seem to get this terrain mod to work. I downloaded the Hi-res version from Mr. Kump's site and (of course) unzipped all the .bmp's to the bmp directory in my CMBO folder. Yet, when I go to play the game all I get is the same old tired terrain textures. I've tried running the game at different resolutions but that doesn't seem to help. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong because Tiger's Firefly w/ Ablative armor mod works wonderfully. Any help, Gents? ------------------ Check out my B-17 fiction story at: http://www.geocities.com/cdouglasn/TFTS.html
  12. My coolest death was that of a heroic (foolish) StuGIII. It was in a custom scenario where a combined british & american armored force were moving to take a small village in heavily wooded terrain. Naturally, my German forces got decimated and I was in quite a rut. My last remaining vehicles were a Wirbelwind and my trusty StuGIII. Suddenly a Sherman Jumbo (+ others) pop out from behind a stand of trees and start taking shots at my tanks. The Wirbelwind is fried instantly, but the StuG holds on. Knowing it'll take a miracle to knock out that Jumbo at its current range, I rush a Pioneer squad across the main road in front of the Jumbo to distract it. Then, I rush my StuG at full speed to point blank range of the Jumbo. The Stug is just about ready for a pointblank flank shot when the Jumbo finishes off the Pioneers. I watch in horror as the Sherman slowly rotates to face my Stug (who's crew is no doubt loading their drawers). They get off a shot which ricochets off the Jumbo like nothing then get annihilated. No survivors. The Jumbo just calmly turned and smashed my tank like it was a bug. Oh well. ------------------ Check out my B-17 fiction story at: http://www.geocities.com/cdouglasn/TFTS.html
  13. I have to throw in my two cents about my favorite WW2 movie. Its a bit of a sleeper flick called "A Midnight Clear." It actually has a pretty strong cast including Ethan Hawke and Gary Sinise. Its not exactly an armor flick (in fact, nothing in it bigger than a HT) but it is a really great mental movie. It really depicts the emotional issues of what some of those guys in the cold ardennes forest must've been going through. I can't give too much away, but it involves an I&R platoon trying to bring in a Wehrmacht platoon that wants to surrender. I have it on tape and have watched it about a hundred times. Definitly recommend this one. ------------------ Check out my B-17 fiction story at: http://www.geocities.com/cdouglasn/TFTS.html [This message has been edited by Chuckd (edited 09-30-2000).]
  14. I think the key to what you said was "option." I'm personally not real fond of the idea of unit rosters but I support the idea of making it an option to those who want it. Why should anybody have to suffer? Just assign a hotkey to enable/disable it. Chuckd
  15. Come on! None of you have got it yet! Yes, it is Monty Python, but what was the flick? "And Now for Something Completely Different" That pair of shiny new pennies is clearly mine. Chuckd
