1.
quote:
- Having had my opponents drop everything from a light house to a church (sound familiar, anyone?)on my troops

Ahhh, those were the days ------------------ Wow, I've had the **** hit the fan before, but never like this...
 2.
quote:
First, I question that a lousy light- timbered bldg when crushed would take out 19 out of 20 men. A brick bldg- perhaps.

Are you sure the collapsing building caused all those casualties? You have 20 men inside a wooden building and a tank lobbing HE shells thru the walls for 45 seconds, sounds like the tank got it's share before the roof came down. ------------------ Wow, I've had the **** hit the fan before, but never like this...
 3. Parasite, Quick question: how do you not have the manual if you have the game? ------------------ Wow, I've had the **** hit the fan before, but never like this...
 4.
quote:
BTW, does anyone else find it a bit ironic/inappropriate that the thread is titled "light a candle".

Inappropriate?
quote:
I've waited to have someone else bring this up since bringing it up is, in itself, in bad taste but... no-one did so...

So, If it's in bad taste...why bring it up?
 5.
quote:
Yes, it's a late Oscar class, SSGNs stowed BEHIND the sail thus giving it a VERY different appearance from the Typhoons

Hmmm...correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Oscars have the Missiles stowed either side of the sail? ------------------ Wow, I've had the **** hit the fan before, but never like this...
 6. You know you've played too much CM when... You: a) spend all day playing CM or, spend all day reading posts about guys spending all day playing CM ------------------ The dead know only one thing - it is better to be alive
 7.
quote:
I propose, in fact I shall insist upon (quick quiz, from which WW2 movie was the last phrase loosely taken and who uttered it), a system to be entitled JOEGO UNOGO

Joe, I have a question, What would happen if you were to play the guy that goes by the handle "Joe Blow"? Would it then be JOEGO JOEBLOWUNGO or JOEBLOWGO JOEUNGO?
 8. What's your scale set at? Re-play your movie at realistic scale to see if the units actually do cross over the field.
 9.
quote:
I don't want to be made a laughing stock.

I wouldn't worry about that, some guys have been playing for over a year and they still get laughed at. ------------------ The dead know only one thing - it is better to be alive
 10. Any chance the terrain has an influence on the purchase? Just a thought. ------------------ The dead know only one thing - it is better to be alive
 11.
quote:
I sent an email to you this morning at sc112565@aol.com with a list of alternate addresses. Looks like you didn't get it, so I'll try again.

I'm at work, so I haven't a chance to check my mail. I'll be home in an hour to resend the file
quote:
You have, what, 1 guy with a bolt-action cowering in a building?

His name is Mike Ditka and he's surrounded by 3 or 4 squads of dead Volksgrenadiers
quote:
And an immobile Hellcat

Ran out of gas chasing your Mark IVs down
quote:
fleeing Sherman?

Not fleeing, he's restocking his ammo. Used up the first batch on your Mark IVs
 12.
quote:
The Most Ancient and Learned Profession.

Hmmm, I always thought prostitution held that title
 13.
quote:
a portly blue-coated hologram with a moustache walks up and says "welcome aboard.":

Wild Bill, is that you... ------------------ The dead know only one thing - it is better to be alive
 14. BOHICA, Do a search on "Bil", It should bring up all his posts. You can then go to his profile for his web address. Make sure to go to the latest post to get the most current address. Good luck [This message has been edited by Kingfish (edited 08-14-2000).]
 15. Not in my opinion, seems like a sound tactic. Now, I'm not sure if a foxhole dug by a split squad can accomodate a full squad later on. ------------------ The dead know only one thing - it is better to be alive
 16.
quote:
they are FREE

I agree, they are spotting rounds, not part of the "combat package"
quote:
they are infinite

I disagree. If we take into account the delay in getting the FO into LOS to the target, normal fire mission delay, any other delays (smoke, FO is suppressed) and then the target shift delay, we are talking about what, 6 rounds tops in a 30 turn battle.
quote:
HE and they are destructive

True, but more than likely way off target, so their effect on defenses are nil. And they carry a delay penalty if shifted, so their effect is less still. Somehow I can't picture a person using a FO to walk one round across the battlefield for an entire 30 turn battle. To me that is a huge waste of a very valuable resource.
 17. I must be missing something here, because, apart from the really big guns, I don't see how a person can profit from this, therefore I don't see how this should be considered a "gamey" tactic. Granted one might get lucky with a spotting round falling falling right on target, but what are the chances? If my opponent decides that dropping one round and then shifting to another target is a winning strategy, then please send me a set-up. Also, regarding subtracting rounds from the total ammo load for spotting rounds: It is my understanding that each ammo point represents a full battery fire mission, so one spotting round would be 1/4 point. How would BTS code that? And wouldn't a battery have extra rounds set aside just for spotting purposes?
 18. Hello aaron, Last night my outgoing PBEM file and a follow-up e-mail were both sent back with an "Unknown address" error message attached. Is there any other way to get the file thru? Post here and let me know. Thanx P.S. we are playing "Merry x-mas at Herm-something or other"
 19.
quote:
Also why the hell would you have three TIGERS wasting away guarding some ****ty bank instead of scaring the hell out of allied tankers or getting the crap blown out of them by the RAF or Americans...

Hmmm...Let's see, which would you prefer: a)Guard the bank, wait until nightfall to smuggle the gold to a secret place in the woods, return when the war is over, dig up the gold, deposit gold in swiss bank, retire to the French Riviera and surround yourself with women sporting 36DD's, or... b)Leave the bank, advance down the road in broad daylight, and take a rocket launched by a Typhoon thru the roof of your tank. ------------------ The dead know only one thing - it is better to be alive
 20. I'm assuming you played against the AI. How about we fire up a PBEM, you as the Germans. I'm at work now but will be home around 6PM EST. You can find my e-mail address in my profile. BTW, the scenario or the Ops is fine with me. Hope to hear from you ------------------ The dead know only one thing - it is better to be alive
 21.
quote:
Now there is no possible way for any of my units to know that this guy controls a 150mm battery!!!

Yes there is, by determining the size of the lenses on his binoculars. The larger the lenses, the larger the shell. Obviously someone on the allied side had a lense gauge handy and determined the calibur of shells with a quick measurement. If it was a spotter for an 81mm, and he was far away, then it would have probably been to difficult to gauge. But with a 150 it's fairly easy. Hope this helps ------------------ The dead know only one thing - it is better to be alive [This message has been edited by Kingfish (edited 08-09-2000).]
 22. If you're worried that the AI will freak over gamey tactics, don't. It couldn't care less, and will always return for a re-match. Now, against a human, that's a different thing altogether... ------------------ The dead know only one thing - it is better to be alive
 23. And don't forget to include a vicious taunt with every out-going file. ------------------ The dead know only one thing - it is better to be alive
