  1. Yep, extreme only (although I, too, would prefer revealing even less information).
  2. Perhaps one solution has been overlooked (at least in this thread): take flags out of MEs altogether. As it is CM MEs are more Hasty Assaults than MEs. A few scenario designers have made such scenarios and they are very interesting to play. If such an option were available (no victory flags), it might make for more exciting MEs.
  3. I had to recently reload CM and all the mods that I had previously downloaded. I thought that I caught them all, but one specific mod has eluded me: the one that converted the ambush marker from the bright bullseye to a simple X. In which mod was that change? Thanks in advance.
  4. I'm 37, which brings the total to 6011 over 173 posts for an average age of 34.74.
  5. The problem corporate entity is most likely not Hasbro, but MMP. I was fortunate enough to download the PBEMPack v2 as well as the v2 upgrade (note that neither one has ASL in its title). Even after unzipping, I have retained the original zipped download files for both. If you are interested in having me forward these files to you, please contact me. Unfortunately, I only have these two files, and none of the maps.
  6. My point is this. This forum is described as Combat Mission Discuss CM in general ways not covered by the other CM Forums. Please be careful to not post scenario specific information here What does this thread have to do with CM? A more appropriate forum is the General Discussion forum, described as... Talk about Battlefront.com's mission, its non-game offerings, or pretty much anything releated to wargaming. What's so difficult to understand about that?
  7. Oops, I'm sorry. I was looking for the Combat Mission site.
  8. Hear, hear, to BTS reply of 10-11 and Maastrictian of earlier today. Quit the whining about losing troops in collapsing buildings. First, as indicated everywhere, the troops are not necessarily "killed," as so many writers like to claim; they are incapacitated, whcih means although possibly alive, they are unable to fight. YOU make the command decision to occupy the upper level with your troops. Just because you FAIL to anticipate an enemy course of action, you want a "take over" to remedy YOUR BAD DECISION: i.e. a second chance to get your troops out. Four or five 75+mm shells impacting in or against a building would definitely reduce it to rubble in a short time. If that short time falls within the Mad Minute, you rightfully lose.
  9. Grenades were cool, but dangerous as hell. True story: new recruit on grenade range with training NCO in bunker. Pin pulled, then chopper overflies range. Check Fire! Training NCO doesn't realize that the recruit had already let off enough pressure, so grenade goes off in bunker. No chance in that environment. Those NCOs wanted off of that duty in a hurry.
  10. As a relative newcomer to both the game (learned about it in the September issue of PC Gamer) and these discussion boards, I, too, have been greatly disappointed with the postings over this long weekend. Look at the general topics that BTS had established: Combat Mission (general), CM- Scenario Talk, Tips and Techniques, and Tech Support. While those topics seem pretty straight forward, suddenly we're discussing "politics" on the general board, as well as Voodoo cards and other "bugs" (wouldn't those topics be appropriate in the Tech Support section?). I want to talk about THE GAME: things such as what we'd like to see in patches or future editions (I'd like to see a more detailed AAR after each campaign- see which squad or AFV was "Audie Murphy-like" over four or six missions). I'm sure many of the "old-timers" still have some incredible insight into what perhaps went into making the game. Sure, there are some clods out there, but it is simple to ignore those posts, but too many people do not and the issue blossoms into a free-for-all. Let's get back to what brought us all here in the first place: an incredibly fun-to-play, challenging strategy GAME. If you want to talk about that, then let's keep the boards alive.
  11. Where can I find a copy of EndItAll? I have had none of the other problems indicated in other posts (white out) related to my Voodoo card. In fact, the graphics themselves are quite impressive at all levels. I do suspect the limited RAM may be the most likely culprit.
  12. I eliminated the ambient sounds, but the problem persists. My sound card is a Sound Blaster PCI 512. Video is also PCI, but I'll have to check the IRQ settings (and the drivers).
  13. I've experienced the same problem (and tried many of the same adjustments). Running AMD K6 450, Voodoo 3 2000 (v1.04), 64 meg RAM, DirectX 7a. I am running at 800x600, I did not experience this problem with the demo version (which, admittedly, I was running at 640x480).
  14. I found out that the problem was that despite installing 1.04, I was still using the original shortcut on my desktop. Delete the original shortcut and create a new one after installing 1.04 and the start screen displays the proper version. Now I just need to solve the periodic (and too frequent) lock-ups (but I'll save that for another topic). [This message has been edited by dmart (edited 08-20-2000).]
  15. I agree about the annoying oversight rather than technical aspect. If this is the worst issue with a patch, than I really guess I have nothing to complain about.
