Hmmm I have seen that problem with other cards as well (I cant remember the brand names I tried before Gainward. I think I tried 2 other ones) Anyway, I got my card pretty much as soon as they came out. Is it "all" early cards that are bad or just a batch of them? Thx jonp

Hello, I have an Athlon 1900+ with a Gainward 4200 w/ 128 megs of ram and I run everything perfectly. I had all kinds of problems initially with other GeForce 4 cards (4400 and 4600 though). I then decided to go with the Gainward 4200 and have not had a problem since then. I also am overclocking it since it is a gold sample. jonp

a very silly but important question about processors
jonp replied to sean butler's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
I do not agree that one should spread that information. There are way too many factors involved. Is an 8 cylinder car twice as fast as a 4 cylinder car??? If he is not computer savvy, the least we can do is make sure he understands that you cant just compare numbers. jonp -
Freezes in CMBO and CMBB Nvidia GF4 4600
jonp replied to Thin Red Line's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
It is the called the Nvidia Infinate Loop problem. When I first set up my XP machine, I had it happens all the time whenever I tried to run an intensive 3d graphics game. I tried a million different things and the one thing that finally solved it was I got a 4200 instead of a 4400 or 4600 card. Do a search for it on the net as people have found various solutions to the problem Good luck jonp -

500 Mhz is the same as .5 Ghz (Giga being 1000 times greater then Mega) And, a 1.5 Ghz is not necessarily (and probably wont be) 3 times faster then a 500 Mhz (or .5 Ghz) machine. hth jonp -
All, If I have a HQ unit without any bonuses, is there any reason for him to be in command of my units (aside from the command delay)? ie If I have a HQ unit that has no bonuses, will my men in command of him benefit in combat (or does there have to be a +1 or +2)? Thx jonp

How to overcome Germany's "No SS allowed" laws?
jonp replied to Joques's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Who really cares if a unit says "SS"??? I never understood why people care so much jonp -
All, Whenver I start CMBB after my machine has been rebooted, I can hardly hear it. After I quit CMBB and restart it is fine from that point forward (until I reboot). It is not a big problem but just wanted to let BTS know. My stats are : Win XP Athlon 1900+ 512 megs of DDR Ram Geforce4 4200 w/ 128 megs (30.xx drivers) SBlaster Platinum Live (drivers from WinXP CD) Thx jonp

time constraint on offense
jonp replied to walpurgis nacht's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Umm, from reading your original post, you mentioned a 1500 pt QB. That is what I was replying to. Like I said, for a 1500 pt QB, 40 or 45 mins should be enough. And relax, you will live longer jonp -
time constraint on offense

Umm, change from 30 to 40 or 45 turns at the start jonp -
If you have never seen a hot day with a damp ground, I invite you to FL in July or Aug. It rains almost daily for a few hours and then the sun comes out and the humidity is so high that no water evaporates from the ground. jonp

I have a Win98 and an XP dual boot system and I use XP almost all the time. It is a ton more stable. In regards to the Nvidia drivers, arent the 40.xx beta drivers? Are they official drivers? I would guess that your computer is sending a refresh rate that your monitor cannot handle and thus the monitor is going into safe mode (which means it turns itself instead of frying itself) Good Luck jonp

BFC Look Here--> Quick Battle Parameter Info: Odd?
jonp replied to Sarge Saunders's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
So, if I am reading this right, that means that in v1.01, neither side will know what to expect until the map loads. Is this correct? Thx jonp -
