Ray

Seen it around and still waiting for the real deal here also, thinking about it and doing it are two different beasts all together. I even bought another copy because I knew at one point one of my buddies was going to ask that age old question "Can you burn me a copy?" "No is the answer but you can order it and borrow this extra until your copy arrives."
 2. Here is my test proven results with V5 5500 FSAA vs. NVIDA TNT2. My neighbor had a TNT2 32mb RAM, so I asked if he would bring his machine over and we could compare the graphics monitor by monitor on each resolution we could muster. With no hardware FSAA on the 5500 the TNT2 was winning on all resolutions for detail, but after we kicked the 5500 even only to FSAAx2 the contest was over..5500 ruled, FSAAx4 took it even to another level all together but did seem to have a small speed effect on scrolling around the screen at resolutions above 1024x768. So then to be dubble sure about like hardware and all, we took the TNT2 and installed it in my 2nd machine here which is identicle to the other and the results were the same. Both machines in the final test were : P3-733FSB's / 133 bus Tyan 1854s Motherboards w/VIA Apollo Pro133+ chipsets. 128mb RAM Windows 98SE Absolutely nothing overclocked, and all video cards were running their latest official release drivers. Ummmm. Didn't know how to take screen shots, and ah, still don't ......can anyone help me on this? Thanks BTW: The statement up top about the neighbor had a TNT2 is correct, he has ordered a V5 5500. 3. Would be happy to give it a try. Got a URL, no icq on my side MILNET has blocked out almost all IRC/ICQ apps. Or if you would pop it to me in email. Thanks, James
 4. I have a PII 300 also(AGP 1.0), besides the other machines that I listed in previous video card posts. It has a V3 3000(16mb VRAM) and CM works out really well. At one point I did put one of the V5 5500's in it to see if it would handle it and of course after getting over many of the V5 installtions issues everything was great and CM was beutiful with FSAAx2/x4. Of course you may be better with one of the TNT2, I believe they have 32mb ram on them and that would help out the 300mhz CPU alot more then a 16mb card, but of course the V5 5500 has 64mb ram, 32 on each video processor. The decision comes down to if want 3DFX or NVIDA chipsets and what other titles you play and what chipsets are recommended for them. Hopes this helps.
 5. Well I guess I am crying because it's not here yet and that means it will arrive during next week, forcing me to stay up till those god aweful hours of the morning, shaving between turns to get ready for work and drinking enough coffee to make it through the day or maybe I could call in sick? yeah.......Ebola......yeah that's it boss Ebola.....feeling really bad....Huh? What's that noise.....just the TV... Man I need to get a new spell checker and input device for the keuboard, I just hear that hand/finger replacements and brain upgrades are still painfull and not quite up to par yet with other medicines. 6. Steve/BTS Community, I truly was not trying to flame anyone, nor was I trying to justify the actions and decisions of the elite in the NAZI party, and I am sorry for posting it if that was the way it was perceived. I am a proud American, who’s family has made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom several times, and even served myself nine years in the European theater myself which involved three deployments to austere environments, and would pick up my weapon and go back in service if that dark cloud evil spread across the land again. I do ask though if you haven’t to please sometime look at the Treaty of Versailles in detail, then look into the Marshall plan in detail, along with the knowledge I have obtained from talking to people and veterans of several European countries I think you’ll find the basis for my conclusions. Two of my Dutch co-workers have even read what I posted and they say that I am right on the money. It just torn me up to read the responses people were giving in the thread, and I wanted to give them reminder as to why Hitler got into power and why the population backed him so much, and how the propaganda machine of the Nazi party was able to blame their current state of affairs on the JEWS. Again Steve, and all BTS people, I am sorry for causing such a negative response, but in the case of WWII there is more to the truth then one side of the story or any education can teach. Other then traveling or living in countries that were involved in the conflict and talking to people that were there and listening to stories will one start to put together the puzzle that watered down education and glossed over history would never bring to light. 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: That is a complete failure to understand the position of Jewish Germans in imperial Germany and also an insult to the number of Jewish Germans who fought and died for the German Empire in the Great War. Care to mention any sources? FWIW - Imperial Germany was one of the countries in which Jewish people were not a visible minority. They were extremely well integrated into society, and worked in all sorts of position in society, mostly on a very high level. They were not segregated, they did not speak a different language, and since the early 19th century there had been a massive and largely successful, yet ultimately futile attempt by them to integrate with German society as a whole. To suggest that as a group they sold out Germany during the Great War is just wrong.

I believe that I have a better understanding of the big picture then you give me credit for, and I was not insulting the ones that fought in WW1 for Germany. I was simply stating facts that were used for propaganda purposes of the Nazi party. I submit the following indepth post for your reading pleasure : At the end of WWI there was, at the insistence of France and a lesser degree Briton, imposed a treaty which would make Kiser's Germany pay repatriations for the next hundred or so years, along with concessions of land for immediate disposal to the victorious Allies! Prior to America's entry into WWI, Dupont Corporation sold the gun powder to both Germany and French/British munitions makers. Some historians draw a direct parallel to Germany's capitulation and the fact that the Kaiser could no longer produce ammunition... as trench warfare was a very gunpowder intensive type of conflict. Burn Dupont into your memory for international trade with neutral countries is always going to be a problem. Lack of trade with no longer neutral countries (America) will strangle you. After WWI, the Jewish population was cited by British intelligence, government and industry sources for providing pivotal economic information on Kaiser's Germany. After WWI, banking and the gem trade were the primary domain of the Jewish elite and they often smuggley boasted that they helped bring Germany to her knees by providing information. After WWI, a disabled war veteran of the trenches who served valiantly (even won the Iron Cross amongst numerous others for bravery and wounded 3 times/gassed) became active in the politics of the defeated, hungry Germany. His oratory skills soon propelled him to the top of a very German orientated social, economic and political movement. Adolph Hitler, highly decorated, and preaching both his own ideas and those of his political mentors, spoke of German self reliance. He attacked the Versailles Treaty which made Germany a debtor to the Allied Victors from WWI and the limitation on a defense force of 100,000 men, loss of German territory and ultimately the pride of the German people. Hitler was well aware of the statements by the British sources in the press and Jewish Elite still in Germany making noise about using their positions in industry to sabotage the valiant war in which he served... the war which ripped all pride from the noble German peoples - Germany. Hitler took a defeated, war-torn populace and gave most of them hope in the form of jobs and restoration of German territory. In the late 30's, he took back his Country's land which was partitioned off at the insistence of the French - and still lesser extent the Brit's! Quite naturally, the French and Brit's both were alarmed at this turn of events -- their current government budgets and expenditures still factored in Germany under the Treaty of Versailles (Look up this treaty and see what was given as concession and then understand the Marshal Plan by America after WWII in rebuilding all the Nations of Europe!). Back to Hitler and the Jews. The Jews were simply targeted because they had participated, at the least the wealthy elite of industry/business, and openly spoke of it in the Victor's Circles how they helped defeat Germany. No Nation can survive both assaults from without and within. No Nation can long endure when its peoples are divided. Hitler was the great unifier (people, land, empire). Solutions to problems had to be found and be permanent. Stalin, another great man from this period of history, himself once stated, "No man, no problem." Obviously, the world of the early 20th Century was a very different one from the world we live in now. Men were the masters of women; women and people who were not by blood linage from the country in which they lived could not vote or participate in most economic endeavors. Most of the known world had been divided among the European powers during the 15th-19th centuries and great empires existed - the pride of each nation! 1999 saw the lowering of the British flag in Hong Kong which ended the "Empire on Which the Sun Never Sets". Empires were not created by worrying about the feelings of a few insignificant problematic people or peoples. Okay, What I met was that Germany veiled in State Secrecy (and should be noted that Hitler never visited any "Final Solution" site) executed an efficient plan to eliminate once and for all a thorn in their side - and a group which came to symbolize their defeat in the last great war! The above mentioned comments are not my personal views, at least not specifically, and I do not condone the Final Solution Plan created by the Nazi Party inter circle. I just call'em as I see'em. Remember, history is written by the Victors! You will have to research long and hard to gain any unbiased information - or go to sources from all sides in a conflict.
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by G4A: You failed.

So be it, but sometimes the truth is not a nice thing like people want to believe. I lost in total 11 great uncles in WW2, and served 9 years myself. Point of the matter is we were not there, and we are not starving. For anyone to try and pass judgement on anyone of the war is insane. A small event that happened in WW2 around DEC 44 if I remember what I was told by one of my two remaining grandfathers. Seems that on Christmas day 44, the fighting between his unit and the gemrans ceased for about 24 hours and they (Americans&Germans) celebrated christmas with a dinner of military rations, interacted a bit and then went back to thier lines...... Most German soldiers throughout the war were not aware of the deathcamps, they were fighting for their country, pride, honor, and in the end their lives. (Discovery channel Europe, show: Soldiers of the Wehrmach(SP?))
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: I am sorry, but I have no idea what you might be talking about. Who was that, the Spartakists?

Was trying to be politically correct, but to be blunt the JEWS. They sold massive amounts of information to the allies during WW1 while being German Citizens and were as bold as to stay in Germany after the war thinking nothing would ever happen.......Do that in the states or any other country and see what happens. It's sad, but true.
 10. Well here comes my 2 cents worth. I'll try to keep it short. For the most part I don't understand why we are talking about this, we as NATO created the entire scenario for this to happen. No one would ever, now that we understand what we did, would ever again create a treaty like the Treat of Versiles(SP?) again, unless we forget our errors, then we a doomed to repeat. Do we feel shame for that treaty? I don't think so, does Germany hold grudges on NATO? Again, I don't think so. I spent 9 years stationed in Germany as a US soldier assigned to the 1st Armored Division, even trained with the Bundewehr on several occasions and servered with German troops in numerous hostile areas on occasion(gulf,bosnia,warsaw-changeover,prep for kosavo). I am now a civilian and living in The Netherlands, and have continued my history research on the war getting yet another nations views on the War. I couldn't even begin to type everything in this message I would like to because of the sheer volume of typing involved, but anytime anyone here wants to visit Europe and talk or even call, I will be more then happy to talk about my first hand experiences and research if they want to know more than one side of the story, and the bottom line is just that, We as Americans have one side to the story, the Germans are just now starting to really look into their war history(they were not allowed to for many years!) and have their side, the Dutch, the French, etc etc........all have a side to the story, but when you hear many of them and start piecing together the similarities and removing the nonsense you start to see the entire picture and it's not pretty. We as a unified fighting force on WW1 failed to bring peace because of a seriously flawed treaty! Victors write the history books and they are extremly watered down version of the truth. How would you feel in any country that just lost a war, and when you surrender, the vistors take land you owned even before the war started and demand that you pay reperations to all the countries that were involved in the war. Land equals population, population equals taxes, which in turn is jobs and income, but after the WW1 Germany was broke, and people were starving until change came, and that change gave them jobs, food......etc. No it was not right what happened but..... Sorry, This is too long already. said my 2 cents......if you want more let me know. Same thing could have happened in ANY Country in those conditions, BOTTOM LINE! Food for thought----What's the penalty for treason in the US? Now think of the actions commited by a nation of people inside the nation of Germny during WW1. I do not myslef agree with the methods taken but think about the treason part. Didn't really learn much about that until talking to lots of Dutch veterans.....
 11. Bring on the TCP/IP! PBEM is nice but its not as robust as TCP/IP. Heck maybe the TCP/IP patch will even be out before I recieve my copy. *Stares towards mailbox* (SIGH!) Timer or no timer, Fred said it best, this is a TBS game, not an RTS. If there is a timer then it should be an option and one that both parties have to agree on before starting. I for one though would never agree to a timed game. Think of the consequences that LAG could have on a timed game, or trying to get that contrary indirect fire line to lock on!
 12. Don't really care when or what number in the series it would be but the actions in Africa would be a very nice addition to the series IMO.
 13. Kicking this back up top for all the people that are trying to decide on a video card. After going through all the issues and still waiting for 3DFX to post new and proper drivers I firmly believe the 5500 is here to stay and that 3DFX has once again proven why they are the trend setters in 3D graphics, everyone else as they say are just cheap imatations(sp?)..... To sum it up once again........FSAA via hardware will kick FSAA by software any day of the millinium! Not to mention yet again the Frames per second this puppy can crank out at FSAAx2 and X4 at high resolutions.......1024x768 FSAAx4 deatils maxed in Q3 and FPS=30+, drop the deatils to default or medium and watch the FPS shoot to 77+. It takes tweaking but it's beutiful! To quote a 3DFX ad "3DFX.......so powerful, it's almost ridiculous!" [This message has been edited by thomasj (edited 06-19-2000).]
 14. V5 5500 baby .... .....3dfx are the trend setters again with everyone one else trying to play the catch up game in the months to come. The only down side is that there are some drivers issues for them to work out but when they do...... I posted an in-depth how to get the proper drivers installed if you have problems beyond following the installation guide. FSAA by hardware kicks FSAA via software any day!
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by jeffjones: thomasj, am I understanding you correctly to say that 3DFX verified that there is an installer problem? and the fix they give you worked? Reason I ask is because this fix has been floating aroung the V5 boards for a few days now, and some are scoffing it at it. I know it works, because I tried it, and it sped my V5 up a lot.

I sent an email to several of the 3dfx support personnel on thursday, got to know alot of them back in the Banshee days , and i recieved an officially non-3dfx official solution. 3DFX has not officially said this is it or that there is an installer problem, BUT! My answer came to me in email from a 3DFX person on Sunday and Now I am flying along. The removal of the card after the drivers deal and windows redecting it is the ultimate solution, I have two computers, identicle, and two 5500's, and after the 1st was running great it was that simple to get the other machine, which only had the installer install the card, up to par. Hope this helps.. James
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Renaud: thomasj: Are you experiencing a problem with CM and the V5500? If so i'd like to hear about the extent of the problem as i'm considering a new video card and CM is a MUST RUN. Thanks, Ren

The only major problem with CM and the 5500 is when you run the 5500 in fastest mode, in that setting you will see weird boxes and the text will not be readable, but in all other modes it looks fantastic, exccept for the minors occurances of the problem mentioned by Kump that you even see in FSAA mode. Overall the card ROCKS and this errors we are seeing are probably drivers issues. "Clatoo, Verata, nic.......necktie, nickel, I know it began with an N....."
 17. I just got an email back from 3DFX and it fixed my Q3 issues. I am now up to 77FPS at 1024x768 with max details from 65-68. I don't know if you play Q3 but it is a good REF for the performance on the card. Any who, what is the following information on your system, so I can tell you what the answer is, or at the end you can read what my solution was, this does not take care of CM, but it does get your card properly working: MB, BIOS&version, type PS(200watt.etc, OS(win?), & CPU? The answer for me was that there was a new BIOS for my MB & the proper way to install the drivers from 3DFX. My system is: MB: TYAN S1854 VIA apollo PRO133+ AGPx4 BIOS: Award, was trinity version 1.00, now it's version 1.07 PS:300 watt, if your PS is 250 and below you need to test it while your machine is running to make sure that your 5500 is always geeting 5.00v&12.00 volts. if it is lower then the 5500 may not be getting enough juice. Mine is 5.1/11.98. I hooked a multimeter to the Y-power cable from my 5500 while it was running Q3 to test the output of the PS on that line. The power cable to your 5500 should power the 5500 only also, nothing else, that is a high recommendation from 3DFX. There are other ways but if you have a multimeter it is the best. OS: WIN98SE CPU:733FSB, 133 coppermine Now on to the deal with the 5500 drivers, go into your device manager, display adapters, properties, drivers, update driver, specify location, have disk, insert 5500 CD, there is a win9x directory, under it is a driver9x directory, in there you will find the manual drivers to install. afeter the reboot your driver version will become 5-15-200, instead of 5-2-200 and your display adapter in the device manager will go from voodoo series to 3dfxvoodoo5. Now the important part no one knew until now. aftet the reboot, go into your device manager again, display adapters, click on the 3dfxvoodoo5 and remove it. reboot, let the machine find the 5500, it will ask you for the drivers, point it back to the CD/win9x/driver9x, it will install, reboot, and from there man you should be cooking along like me. This does not fix CM, I know that sucks, and they are working on the drivers issue, they have non public beta drivers already and are talking about having full drivers out to the public by Friday. We'll see. I hope this helps you like it did for me man. I'll keep you posted on anything else that I come accross. I took this right out of an email I sent out to another person, so please pardon me for not editing everything down for this post, just wanted to get this information out to the family here. Anyone that needs/wants help, post here or email me. I will be more then happy to help. The results of this are worth every minute! Quake 3 @ 1024x768 32bit deatils maxed FSAAx2 and still 77FPS! TOO

 19. Oh man, I just moved out of germany in November man to go to the Netherlands, was only about 30 mins away from Frankfurt airport. Depending on how long the delay is they have a great train system that runs to and from the city, I am pretty sure it was the U-bon(???). 20. Was going to congrat you also, now though I am doing well to be civil. (Resisting urge to flame) "There are places where people are shot for less!"

 22. I must keep faith in the AVAULT, been with them since they started and have always prefered thier review/previews over the others. Not to mention they seem to be taking over the position of leading online CG, but we'll see. I have sent a email to Brian Clair on Tuesday or Wednesday asking for them to do a write up on CM also.

I am seriously concidering going back to the banshee, if I an find one because I gave the old one to a friend. and I have DX7a running. At least know I know its a computer problem and not a CM problem. [This message has been edited by Private Pike (edited 06-15-2000).]

I ran the CM Gold Demo on my V3 3000 machines for a very long time until my V5 5500's came and there never was any lockups, nor were there any with any of my other games. I may side with 3DFX on this one if you have the current drivers for everything and your DX is 7.0+ it may be a hardware issue. Now there a few things to try......1st check out the HEAT issue brought up by CoolColJ, 2nd and on -->make sure all the banshee software is uninstalled, if not remove and reboot, if so boot into safe mode and make sure the old VID Card is gone. This must be through safe mode. If not remove all VID cards reboot and let windows redetect the V3 if the banshee is not listed in safe mode and the V3 is the only one.......and you have tried the HEAT solution suggested above and it still locks then it probably is a conflict between the MB and the V3, as stated by 3DFX.
