  1. This guys isn't too bad either: http://pptranger.blogspot.com/
  2. Yep...piss-poor design. Unacceptable. That said..those SOBs are friggin CRAZY.
  3. Trickiness translating Japanese?? http://www.engrish.com//wp-content/uploads/2010/07/cross-the-dateline.jpg
  4. It's fantasy. There were no berries that were 99% water and that lost that much money, etc etc. It's a fictional problem created to highlight a math problem. It's like asking, "How many miles per hour did John run, if it took him 30 minutes to run 2,000 miles?" Sure, it's a simple ratio... It's a fantasy ratio, and that is where the problem lies. You are accepting at face value that this can really happen, when it cannot. Some of the most moist berries come in at 65% moisture. Blueberries when dried to 2% moisture, weigh 10% of their fresh weight..that is the reality...not some made up crap designed to highlight a math problem.
  5. Cool write-up Neutrino!! Thanks for that, and thanks for introducing some of us to the game series. I went out and bought the Western Front (small bites) based entirely on your AAR and write-up. Nicely Done!
  6. Received my Atlas on Friday. I'm fairly confident you will NOT be disappointed. This thing is great. The maps are superb and will provide you enough source material to keep you busy until sometime near the 100th anniversary of the landings and campaign! It's a must have addition to the library of anyone interested in D-Day and the breakout.

  8. http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/flash/default.asp I have no idea how they do this, but the newspaper front pages are current. Other parts of the world are across the top of the map! Just put your mouse on a city anywhere in the world and the newspaper headlines pop up... Double click and the page gets larger....Have fun!
  9. Then perhaps the question should be "Could the Nazis have prepared better for Normandy?"
  10. Could they have prepared better? Probably. Then again, they did some remarkable preparations despite not covering all potential aspects of the campaign. They made an assumption that turned out to be wrong. They adjusted and overcame it. From: http://www.history.army.mil/brochures/normandy/nor-pam.htm (pg 34) I vote for SNAFU as well.
  11. It's not a doctrinally correct term for US Forces.
  12. Those are great points. gunner asked "Just because a film CAN be made, is that sufficient justification for MAKING it?" The key word here being "can". I took that to imply that all of the issues you bring up were non-issues and that the ability of a studio to make a film were not constraints. I understood the question to be one asking the question of whether or not the movie should be justified on a philosophical/moral level. I probably totally misread the question, which wouldn't be the first time...
  13. Does any film need justification to be made? I mean, did they need to have justification to make Dirty Dozen or Kelly's Heroes or Dirty Harry or the Death Wish series or Doctor Zhivago? Nah, if they want to make it, let em. If people want to see it, they will, if not, they won't.
  14. This one is improved and has more to offer: http://www.theartofbattle.com/ Highly recommended!!!
  15. His models are AMAZING http://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/park.htm preview: http://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/images/Corsair4.jpg Using a tweezers, the controls can be moved. All cables and linkages are in place to work the wing control surfaces as well. Young Park has since carved a pilot's face and hands from solid aluminum and built an articulated pilot to sit in the cockpit. (Photo: George F. Lee, Honolulu Star-Bulletin)
  16. I've just started to get into OCS, having recently purchased Tobruk, Burma (still available, btw), and Korea. I think I need lessons though.
  17. We're all going to roadtrip to Wilhammers from some wargaming goodness!! What's your game of choice Wilhammer?

  19. Those that have seen know the "big" one (and it's the only one I am aware of). What are some others?
  20. hmm...Interesting... Tried it and didn't like it much... Maybe I'm just getting old and crotchety...
