  1. Whatever dude...believe what you wanna believe. You still don't get what "hard-coded" means, so if you don't get it, you never will. End of story.
  2. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Warmaker: How'd you like the Tiger a.k.a. modified T-34 in SPR? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Are you sure about that? I haven't seen any OFFICIAL acknowledgement of that rumor. If it is modified, there ain't much left of the original T-34 chassis.
  3. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Dittohead: Try the military book club. Got mine a month ago.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Got a link?
  4. Yeah already placed my order! Should get it by next week. It seems like I checked for it prior to October so that's why it wasn't available. Now all we need is one on Russian Tanks. Great series of books though. I ordered the German one before CM came out.
  5. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Big Time Software: Hello! A couple of days ago I received my copy of "British and American Tanks of WW2" by Chamberlain and Ellis. This is the companion to the very well known "Encyclopedia of German Tanks of WWII" book by Chamberlain and Doyle. Steve<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Where'd you get your copy, I tried ordering that from Amazon.com a while back and they didn't have it anymore or it was out-of-print or something??? EDIT: Ahhh, nevermind. They reissued the thing in October, EXCELLENT! I'm on it! Is there a Russian Tank book in the same series? [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-01-2001).]
  6. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> Crap. There goes part of my British Uniform mod <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Yeah, that sucks don't it. I discovered this when I tried finding the bmp for the BA berret (one 't' isn't it?) for my winter versions and there isn't one. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LONG life!"-Minsc, BGII [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-01-2001).]
  7. I did Rob, several times in fact to try to comprehend what you said, and the truth is you didn't read my answer. Bmp's aren't hard-coded. The game was hard-coded with v1.01 to display these bmps for explosions. But these "so-called" new ones are only updated versions from what they used to offer in their patches. Please read my posts before you humiliate yourself again. I'm growing tired of explaining simple things to veteran players.
  8. ALLELUIA!!! Let His Light shine down on ya now, laddy! And I agree with Shatter, if I ever saw another "Should I buy this game?"-ish thread again from the same guy, I was going to shoot myself! LOL! But anyway, you won't regret having CM, it'll never get old like ALL other games do after 3 weeks. I've been playing CM for about a year now and can't get enough. Yes, a year, Beta Demo days boys!! You should have seen the Church textures then, what a laugh! P.S. K-State beat the Vols. :evil grin: ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LONG life!"-Minsc, BGII [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-01-2001).] [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-01-2001).]
  9. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Mikhael: Yeah, you're right, I have looked at those variations, just last night in fact, heh. Now I KNOW the skies in these pictures ( http://combathq.thegamers.net/mods/terrain/dd/Image3.jpg and http://combathq.thegamers.net/mods/terrain/dd/Image2.jpg as well as http://combathq.thegamers.net/POTD/Stuart_shot.jpg ) are not included in MY version of CM (1.0, I haven't upgraded yet heh), and I know at least some of those are MODS because I remember about someone commenting on the POTD shot. Someone mentioned the winter skies as being dawn/dusk? Is this included in a later version of CM? 1.05 maybe? I know it's not in 1.0, though... and I'd really like those skies, they're beautiful. Anyone help?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> The skies in your Image 2 and 3.jpgs up there ARE the regular/stock/normal (however you wanna put it) Dusk/Dawn skies, trust me, hell trust us! However, the one in the Stuart_shot.jpg is an unreleased mod that we've all just seen recently. The only new bmps that BTS has ever released with patches are the explosion graphics that start with 1.01. New improved explosions have been implemented to the latest Beta patch. But these were currently available as a mod back in September.
  10. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Rob/1: read above Max.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Hate to break it to ya Rob, but hard-coding means that it can't be changed by the end-user. I can go in there right now and do whatever I want to with those BMPs. Implemented new BMPs into Patches does not make them Hard-Coded. As I've listed before, the hard-coded images in the game are as follows: Bazookas 'Schrecks Piats Mortars (excluding Vehicle-mounted mortars) Berretts and oh, your favorite...Tracers Hence that's why there hasn't been any mods for these.
  11. But to answer Mr. Clark's original questions, before Rob became confused. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Mr. Clark: A few questions on explosion graphics: 1) Which are the most recent? The ones on CMHQ, or the ones that come with version 1.03?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Which version??? Anyway, it appears as though BTS had implemented a mear update to the bmps that they used to use in their previous patches to Tiger's and Matt's 3D-Look Explosions <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>2) I updated to the ones on CMHQ, supposing that they are the newest. In my current game, one of my Shermans got hit by an 88 and brewed up. However, the hit was NOT accompanied by the gigantic explosion I have seen in my last couple of games. Simply a hit sound and fire in the turret. Is the massive explosion graphic no longer in the CMHQ explosions, or is it simply random whether or not it occurs when a tank is brewed?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> They are the same. Both sets-the ones in the patch and the ones on CMHQ both have the date 9/4/00. And it is not really random, it is more like what kind of hit the vehicle takes, whether it is a hit that brews up ammo or fuel. I think...I could be wrong, it may just be random, but it is more frequent with lighter armored vehicles such as Priests and Hummels <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>3) What explosion and fire graphics are everyone else using?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Obviously the explosions in the patch. I also use the fire that was in the original mod from September.
  12. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Rob/1: There not new as in new but there newly hard coaded<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> How do you hard-code BMPs???
  13. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Rob/1: NO Max have you been sleeping well BTS was talking again?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Have you Rob? Those have been out since September. Check the dates on the explosion .bmps They say 9/4/00--hardly anything new.
  14. Wait, those are the same old bright 3D explosions you guys did back in September. I just extracted the patch into a temp directory and they have the same old date of like 9/4/00. What's new about them? Unless you've been a slack-ass and never got them from CMHQ when they first came out. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LONG life!"-Minsc, BGII
  15. Are we talking new explosions for the Mac version only?
  16. OK, when you go to Map Preview, you can select each unit, then bring up it's orders box, there will be a "Place" selection in there which will allow you to put that unit anywhere on the board. You can also "padlock" a unit to a certain spot so the player or AI won't be able to move it during the set-up phase. Also any unit that remains inside a designated set-up zone without being padlocked can be moved anywhere within that set-up zone at the start of play. OK, I just found this very same information in the Manual on Page 31. "Setup Phase" same goes for the Editor.
  17. When you select Reinforcement units in the Unit Selection Screen, a "Reinforcement Marker" will appear in the Map Preview. You then must move that marker (like you would any other unit or flag) to where you want the reinforcements to appear. Friendly or enemy map borders and/or setup zones don't have a thing to do to where Reinforcement appear. You can have reinfocements appear anywhere you want. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LONG life!"-Minsc, BGII [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-01-2001).]
  18. EDIT: A simple remark. "If you want to turn a decent looking game into an awesome looking game, then yeah, MODS are a must." I'd definately start off with DD's Terrain Packs including grass and trees and tree bases, They'll make a huge difference in the the way the game looks. Then you might wanna try the Velvet grass. I find DD's grass a little too bland. The Velvet grass has nice contrast between elevations and a good mix of color variation. Then I'd get Panzertruppen's Buildings--simply the best building mod yet! And then go looking for vehicle mods that you like. I'd suggest everything by Marco Bergman, he has produced hi-res Shermans and Stuarts that are top-notch. Be sure and get the Mad Dog Mod Packs too, for they contain several mods that you can't get separately, like a Hi-Res Tiger, JgPanther, and JgTiger. They also contain terrain mods, but there have been better come out since, like DD's Terrain mentioned above. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LONG life!"-Minsc, BGII [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-01-2001).]
  19. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Pvt. Ryan: I think the skies you are referring to on that page are the dawn/dusk skies - not mods. You will see them when you play a battle set at dawn or dusk.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Pvt. Ryan is correct, those are just the Dawn/Dusk skies.
  20. It's probably because they aren't sampled in the same Hz. I can't remember what CM's sounds are sampled in, but I know they are different between the full version and the Gold demo and they aren't compatible, so I'd say that may be your problem.
  21. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Lord General MB: Soldiers, Maximus is right. AD is not "After Death" but something like "Adumis Domiticus" (thats not it but it sounds like that) <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Right, which means, "In the Year of Our Lord." I tried looking up what the Latin term is, but can not find it anywhere. Typed in "A.D." in an Internet search and didn't find anything remotely related.
  22. Well, to be honest wit ya. I can't see anybody going back to the originals. Mainly becuase there are generally more than one mod for everything out there. So in this case, find the one you like and install it over one that you don't like. But if you really want the BTS original, you can pull the originals directly off the CD from the CD's Bmp folder, however they will tranfer over as "read-only" files, so if you were to go in to modify them yourself, you must change them over to "archive" status, or your computer will not let you overwrite them. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LONG life!"-Minsc, BGII
  23. LOL! You guys crack me up! My father and I argued this point all the way up to our NYE party last night. Shatter, your grandmother is way of base. A.D. is the acronym for the latin term, (whatever it is), meaning "In the Year of Our Lord", not "After Death". But as for as this Millenium thing goes, I think Jarmo has it correct, after further analysis. But after reading through the article Jarmo found, hell it's all a big freakin' mess, so who the hell knows what year it is, or better yet, what day it is??? But in a mathmetician sense, you can see wher e I have come from, besides it took a mathmetician to come up with the Gregorian calender to deal with retaining the equinoxes where they should be by dropping Leap Years on century marks not divisible by 400, ie. 1600 and 2000 were Leap Years, 1700, 1800, and 1900 were not. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LONG life!"-Minsc, BGII
  24. Well, OK, but you mean to tell me that they started at Year 1 AT the time of death of Jesus? Or did they go to Year 1 a year AFTER the death? If they did, even though they may have not called it Year 0, then our current calendar had a year's worth of time before they reached Year 1, right? The whole issue is really very debatable. When did the actual Year 1 begin? A year after the death, or at the time of death? And if it is death, then Jesus was born in B.C. which is paradoxial. But who the hell knows, right? I think that makes sense. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LONG life!"-Minsc, BGII
