mummy wheres my combat mission!?
Maximus replied to Wolfcub's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
No comment. But what do you all call a dead bandaged Egyptian Pharoah? A mummy? If so, don't you think it's a little strange? The correct term is "mother" so the nickname is "mom" or "mommy". Not "mum" or "mummy". -
As for buildings, go with Panzertruppen's buildings. But then of course if you're looking for desert buildings get the DFDR mod. For grass, that's a tough one. DD's grass was good. But recently Gunnergoz released a pretty cool new grass. For skies, Tiger has a nice set of skies on COMBAT MISSIONS, and there's another ew set on the Dogs of War site.

Yeah, my buddy and I tried to play the Gettysburg scenario and it took FOREVER to exchange data. Would have been faster if we PBEM'ed. It all usually depends on the connection speed. At the time though he was using a lowsy ISP and his sustained tranfer rates were only about 2.5K/sec when it should have been 4.5 or better.

This Geforce card is better than the Ultra. As for the board that supports DDR, yes, I was wanting to go that route, but they said that DDR is still in its infancy and still being tested. But later if DDR seems to work out, they said they'd do a DDR board swap out later for just a little more, probably just labor and cost difference. Another reason was they they still haven't got any DDR memory from their supplier yet. I'm getting an ATA100 30GB HDD, but it's only a 5400 rpm. The guy said tat there isn't that difference between the two speeds as he's runnign an 80 GB 5400 rpm drive in his machine. -
It has never ceased to amaze me that sites such as these cause problems with bandwith per month allocations. Just goes to show you how good CM really is even after almost a year of being out.

Aren't 3Dfx products great? Haven't you folks learned yet? Go Nvidia.

Well it'll probably arrive when you quit calling your mother a dead, bandaged, Egyptian Pharoah. Geez, you Brits with all your crazy spellings. -

As for cooling. Definately. The Geforce card has a fan on its GPU. The case I will be getting has two spots for your normal large cooling fans. One in the rear of the case with extremely adequate air holes and a place on the bottom with the same amount of air holes. I'll get one fan blowing in and one fan blowing out. Should keep the air circulation nice and cool. -
PLEASE HELP!! PATCH v 1.05 CD PROBLEM!
Maximus replied to KehoeOwen's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Well if you just received CM what you in fact did was to down-grade your version. Recent CDs ship with v1.11. When you installed v1.05 you basically down-graded two official patches. What you need to do is to d/l and install the v1.12 patch. I think the problem is since that the CD is v1.11 and it looks at that when you start the game and your .exe is v1.05, the game is saying, "Whoah, what the $@*@ This game is older than what I came with!" -
Voodoo 3 3000 - unable to see new skies.
Maximus replied to Apache's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
That's what you get with those 3Dfx cards. They sacrifice quality for speed. That's one of the reasons why they went out of business, IMHO. I was told to stay away from Voodoo cards even when the Voodoo 3 was the top card in that line because of their lousey GPU. -
MODS! How to install/change/upgrade?
Maximus replied to FUBAR'D's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Basic instructions for mod installing. Texture files are simple .BMP's and Sound files are simple .WAV's. Unzip a mod file into a temp folder and then look at the contained files. Read the readmes first to check for any special instructions. Follow them, if not, just copy over .bmp files into the Bmp folder and then copy over .wav files into the Wav folder. Scenario files are in .cmb and .cmc format. Copy those over to the Scenario folder. Pretty simple really. -

Yes this is a 200/266 FSB board. I believe it is the A7V133 as you suggested. I spent the better part of Saturday afternoon in the store watching one of the techs build a system to test this new Geforce card. It was a Pro version which needs that special Pro AGP slot. The owner of the shop took one of those cards home with him and he had troubles in getting it to run on his machine, but he was running WinME, so that may hve been the problem. I'm going back in there tomorrow to see how the test went. I should mention that this Geforce was not an Nvidia card. It had the Nvidia chipset, but it was made by a 3rd Party Manufacturer. I can't recall the name though. -

Tanks - turret orientation control
Maximus replied to Apache's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Well yes, but that is to save your TC from small arms fire. That micromanagement is to prevent casualties where-as turret control is something that the Tac-AI does and has no consequences with crew casulties. -
Tanks - turret orientation control
Maximus replied to Apache's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
No, there is no separate turret orientation order. This has been discussed to death and the reasoning why it is not included is because that would increase the micromanagement factor too much. This is what the Tac-AI is for. People don't give enought credit to the Tac-AI. A "Hull Down" label is displayed when you have a tank selected and use the Target or the LOS tool onto a target unit, as Hull Down is only relevent between the shooting unit and the target unit. The bow MG can also be "blocked". This happens when a vehicle is hull-down as it is behind a ridge where the hull mounted MG is below the ridge. However the co-axial MG should be fine. -
I'm upgrading this week, starting tomorrow actually. I'm going with an ASUS A7VKT133 board, 1.2Ghz T-Bird, 256MB PC133 (DDR is still a little bit too experimental yet), 64MB DDR Geforce 2 GTS Platinum (best card under Geforce 3). I'll be cutting through hi-res mods like hotbutter with this new rig.

Sorry guys, but I just gotta break in here with my patented phrase: "What's a Mac again?" Isn't it wonderful to own a Mac with low system RAM and low VRAM? Nowathese days, it is a common to upgrade RAM in 128MB increments. ------------------ For your dream car click here. For a Close Encounter click here. Hey look! I can see my house! Maximus replied to bullet's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Well you could also use them as little boomer-rang type of projectiles. You could practice up on how certain CM vehicles have a tendency to destroy themselves. -
I'm planning on going with a ASUS KT-133 chipset motherboard, can't recall the board name right off hand. 1.2 GHz T-Bird 256 MB of PC133 SDRAM 64MB DDR Geforce 2 V7700 GTS 40 GB HDD How's this for a system for CM2 and beyond? ------------------ For your dream car click here. True, but trust me. You don't need to look at them. They are spectacular. Totally redone and shadowed to look more realistic. If you want I can take a few screenshot of them and send them to ya. Also, Magua has a British uniform mod that is even better than DD's.
