  1. Well wiping out Windows at this point is NOT an option. If someone can determine which Det drivers changed FSAA routines then I might try installing the version below that.
  2. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Sergeant Saunders: Hmmm ... nope! Not for me. Is is a Netscape/MSIE thing, maybe?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Well, try not deleting the name. Notice the Originally posted by Sergeant Saunders: part. [ 07-31-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]
  3. Doctor: "What seems to be the problem?" Patient: "I have a pain doc." Doctor: "Where does it hurt?" Patient: "It hurts my neck when I do this." Doctor: "Don't do that." [ 07-31-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]
  4. Now that brings up another question. About the "uninstall" part. I tried this once before with my old TNT2 Ultra. I did the "set display driver to Standard VGA thing" once and then upon trying to install just the updated drivers (I think it was the 3.86 drivers at the time), I couldn't restore any display setting above the Standard VGA. I eventually just had to reinstall the drivers and control panel from the CD. I just found it that it was easier to just run the driver update within the regular display, ie. 16-bit color, etc.. So what I'm asking is do I really have to restore Standard VGA drivers before updating? [ 07-31-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]
  5. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Cauldron: If there is a new Sherman MOD out there ( or here is a request) can someone tell me.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> There are none better than Marco Bergman's Shermans, Stuarts, T8 and Stuart Roo, and Greyhounds. Get them all at CMHQ. He's gonna start working on the M24 Chaffee next after he gets the British Sherman update complete.
  6. So another question is, if I upgrade to a newer driver and it causes problems can I go back to an older driver without much problem? Madmatt posted a link to an excellent site that has every Nvida driver available from 3.56 to 14.20 [ 07-31-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]
  7. OK thanks. Just the info I was looking for. So I take it if that I upgraded to the 12.41 drivers then the number would be "4.12.01.1241"? [ 07-31-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]
  8. I apparently downloaded the 12.41 drivers from the Manufacture's site some time ago, but I never installed them. And with all the problems that seem to stem from the 12.41 drivers, I'm gonna hold off for some time.
  9. I have a 64MB Geforce 2 GTS. I'm using the stock drivers that came with the card. The card was brand new in April, 2001. The driver number in the Display Properties says: "4.12.01.0647" So which version of the Detonator series is this?
  10. Well now, I'm confused. The man says that he has 3 "super kick-ass" computers and one not-so "kick-ass", and yet he can't play CM on any of those. I kind of find that REALLY hard to believe. It don't take THAT much to run CM. People run CM on computers with P133 CPUs, although I'd hate to see it. As far as Geforce and FSAA problems, I have a 64MB Geforce 2 GTS using the stock drivers. Not even sure which version of the so-called Nvidia Reference drivers they are and I don't have any of these text problems. Sounds like the guy just wants to go drive his $100,000 Viper.
  11. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Pebbo: I have been using a friends copy of the game, which is an older version, for nearly three monthes now as he is flat out with work committments.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> OT-but... A friend let you borrow his copy of CM? What was HE thinking???
  12. I have a S/U/M/A/ Geforce 2 GTS/Pro SE with 64MB DDR-RAM along with a 1.2GHz Athlon and with CMBO loaded down with Hi-Res mods, it even stutters from time to time. So I wouldn't go with anything less than a 32MB Geforce 2 for CMBB
  13. Well, in fact what you are doing by installing the v1.05 patch is that you are down grading your version. I assume you are a new CM owner, you're version was shipped with v1.11. This is obviously higher than v1.05. The final patch is in fact, v1.12. So get the v1.12 patch nad you'll be set. Because, what is happening is that since the coding on the CD is v1.11 and you install the v1.05 patch, the game is like "WHOAH, I'm now more obsolete than when I got here."
  14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Molotov: Would it be possible to make a mod or are tanks and vehicles hard coded in?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> All 3D models and data are compiled, or as we say here "hard-coded", into the executable. This somewhat optimizes the coding. Because the models themselves have several real-color bitmaps per model unlike some games that have the entire model's texture compiled into one or two 256-color optimized bitmaps.

I didn't think that, THAT many Americans existed.....<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Ummm, call me crazy, but seriously, what did that post have to do with the thread topic? That's almost as pointless as a typical Panzerman post. [ 07-31-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]
  16. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Madmatt: Hey?!? Have I mentioned lately that the former management of TGN can go and BITE ME?!? Madmatt<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> You never did get your "kudos" or whatever it was for running their stupid banner ads did you?
  17. Well, the problem is here is that you're classifying the Red Army as a static entity over the course of the 4 years of combat here. The truth of the matter is is that the Red Army changed significantly throughout the years between 1941 and 1945. What you say is true for the early part, but actually half of that even. You see, during the first phase of Barbarossa, the German War Machine did overwhelm the Russians in all combat aspects. However, when the T-34 came out, things changed. Granted they still didn't have radios then, but nonetheless, the Germans found themselves up against a superior tank. Because at that time, the top German tanks were tanks like the short-barreled PzIVD-F and PzIIIs with only 50mm guns. Even the early T-34s were better than the German counterparts. The infantry situation was a little different story. This situation really didn't change until around Stalingrad in late 1942. This is why BTS is adding another "quality" to troop squads. One of "morale" I believe it is. Such that you will now be able to have veteran troops with low morale, or poor troops with fanatical morale. This is necessary to simulate the longer span of conflict in the Eastern Front. Because you'll have veteran German troops, but with low morale of after being on the front for so long in bad conditions. So basically, don't worry as BTS has figured out a way to model the change in quality of the two major combatants over the course of these four years.

But anyhow, how could you explain why someone would pack up and leave to go pout when "elitist" posters from the MBT tell him what's what. But that's no longer important, what's most important is the survival of the FAQ thread and the MBT of which....
  20. I use a slightly modified version of Fernando's Tri- and Ambush Camo PzIV mod. Slightly modified as in a slight contrast change to bring out the color a bit better. I also use Gordon's Hasty Camo version as seen above in my DFDR install. Gordon also supplied me with a wire mess version of the turret schuerzten. Looks pretty decent in the DFDR environment.
  21. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Manx: ROTFLMFHO I thought you were Rob/1 !?!? This is the funniest mod i have ever heard! This has gotta rank alongside that now classic (infamous?) "Flourescent Green StuG" ("Like something from outta Space™ ") mod that Rob/1 produced a while back. Looks like there's a new nick coming on for Rob. Expect to see a lot of new posts from "Clint" or "Dirty Harry" appearing soon, while messages from "Panzerman" strangely and suddenly, dry up. Watch then, how he tries to convince everyone that he is REALLY the old Panzerman, who used to be called Sherman, but is in fact REALLY Rob/1...ad infinitum. You've made my day. Have you ever thought about going into comedy? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Absolutely brilliant Manx! I couldn't have said it any better. ROTFLMAO. Flourescent Green StuG, that killed me! But this still doesn't explain who this Fieldmarshall is. Whoever it is, I believe they were pulled from the same gene pool.
  22. What it's done, but I don't know for what reason, is that it has reset the Prefs file to 640x480 software mode. It's chugging because it's not running through you video card. Try deleting the Prefs file from the root directory and restart the game and watch carefully as it runs through the available resoultions and make sure that which ever one you pick says "Primary Display driver". NOTE: the largest initial resolution that CM will detect is what your desktop is set to. I run CM in 1280x1024x16.
  23. The Churchill AVRE is a AFV designed to destroy bunkers, pillboxes, and buildings. It fires a 290mm Shaped Charge (whoops, that's right, a Hollow Charge Mortar) with the ROF of about 2.25 rounds per minute. The visible projectile in-game is a tan squarish projectile that usually flies at an extreme arc. It has a decent blast radius, but from what I have heard, that there is another weapon that is actually smaller is more effective. I can't recall which, but there was a thread about this a while back. The thread, IIRC talked about that the AVRE really wasn't modelled correctly in-game. Meaning that it isn't as effective as it should be. But as for general use. Use it to destroy buildings and pillboxes. It is NOT an Anti-Tank vehicle. However it would be useful against field guns. 24. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by wadepm: After carefully reviewing a whole bunch of posts by Panzerman and Fieldmarshall I have decided that, henceforth, Fieldmarshall will be known as Rob/1, at least until someone more Rob/1-like comes along. You are off the hook Panzerman. Sorry "Rob", but your posts are just too much like Rob/1's to let you have a pass as well.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Yes, I also find it entertaining that Feldmarshall starts threads summoning Madmatt like he knows him personally like "HEY BALDY", etc. etc. Me thinks Feldmarshall is another one of those teen-agers gone grognard, if you know what I mean.
