Welcome aboard, GilaMonster. Nice to see a new face. -
This might be jumping the gun, slightly....
Flix replied to V B's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
What position will BTS be in within the next couple of years? I believe that it will be determined by the sales produced by CM. Folks, CM is a one of a kind! It truly is a revolutionary design in the genre of wargaming. Whether CM2 is $75, $45, or $20, it will be mine! I will skip buying lunch and pack a sandwich for a couple of weeks to get it. Judging from the initial product the game can only get better with age. More development, faster machines, new innovations, etc. Start saving your money now!!!!!!!!!!! -
What are you looking forward to most?
Flix replied to Fenris's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Looking forward to: Naval fire support!!!!!!!!! More vehicles More scearios Scenario editor (developing an all town urban battle) Our way of battle wouldn't have been so costly if Ike and Bradley had only listened to Patton!!! -
I ran the crew out of the Panther in VoT with 81mm mortar fire, a 105mm fire mission and four 75mm hits from two Shermans (all happening at the same time of course). The tank was fine but the crew bugged out.

I've understood exactly what ideas Robert is conveying. This isn't school and we're not trying to earn a GPA toward a degree. As long as someone is able to get their point across, I don't see any problems here. Most of the folks with "Member" status are very knowledgible about the various aspects of World War II and I see them as kind of representatives of this forum. Slamming people for poor grammar or spelling is below them.

It's got my vote. Flix

I played VoT again and yes jgdpzr, you are right. It seems though that more German squads have panzerfausts than GI's have rifle grenades. Flix

I just jumped over to WWII Online and it looks damn pretty. However, I am curious to see how it all plays out. It'll take some serious wargamers to play the game properly. I don't think I can see that happening.

Yeah Madmatt, I read the Special Events airstrike piece after posting my reply. However, I did read on Battlefront.com about the inclusion of airstrikes and these three particular airplanes were listed. I guess what I read was put on the page during the early develop stages of the game. Flix

Average CM addict, married, 25+ years old?
Flix replied to Lobo's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
30 years old, married with two kids. I took, the day off to go register for school (have to use those vacation days or you lose them). My wife came home for lunch and expected to see the house clean and lunch ready. Well, when she walked through the front door, her ears were greeted with the now familiar sound of explosions, gunfire and yelling infantry units. Her patience is wearing thin, I can tell. But hey, if she leaves me, I've got my CM. Flix -
I swarmed an immobilized Panther in VoT with two full squads and an engineer team. The Panther's turret was turned at a right angle from my multi-sqaud charge. The Panther was trying to kill a Bazooka team that I had positioned in a crater about 20 meters away. During the turn, my engineer team decided to take cover in some scattered trees about 10 meters away. The two squads had just run upon the tank when my engineers fired a rifle grenade and hit the front armor causing two casualties due to friendly fire. The turn continued, with the squads right in the same spot as the Panther. I heard a **THONK** and saw a message saying that the Panther was knocked out. The crew came out of the bottom of the hatch and was eliminated about 3 meters from the tank. I'm certain what exactly the squads did to the tank, but hey, they did it well. I noticed "hunt52" said something about all squads having rifle grenades, this seems correct to me. However, the engineer teams have icons for them (as well as icons for satchel charges), why don't the squads have icons. Flix

I spoke my piece. You guys are a lot better at righting reviews than I am. Flix

First off, my hat is off to both Stephen Ambrose and Belton Cooper. I read Ambrose quite often, my favorite is "Band of Brothers". As far as Belton Cooper is concerned, the man has a knack for the technicalities of armor and big guns. Now, of course there are several reasons for the German's ineffective recovery of their vehicles. It's hard to recover vehicles while losing ground. Which early on in the war they were taking ground constantly which gave the the ability to recover equipment. Also repair parts were readily available through their manufacturers. As the war progressed, the German's manufacturing ability declined (ie. lack of resources, bombing, etc.) These wonderful technological advances in super armor and big guns were useless after they broke down. These huge tanks were extremely intricate and the common field soldier could not repair them. The Americans kept the designs simple and easy to produce. Our huge industrial capabilities gave us the ability to pump out Shermans like water out of a faucet. We didn't have to take the things to the back all of the time to have them repaired. Flix

I've got a Sound Blaster Nvidia Riva TNT2 4X with 16MB. I don't know the cost, it came bundled with my Acer. It's probably a less expensive card though. I haven't had any problems with freeze ups yet. Flix

New Jagdpanther pic and Tweaked textures v3.0 pics
Flix replied to CoolColJ's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Got the wallpaper, thanks. Flix -
I read that there will be at least three different planes for airstrikes: P-47'S, P-51'S and Typhoons. Flix

I don't want to break this addiction, my wife wants me to but I don't. I have devised a method of tuning her out while playing CM: Put on the headphones, call in a 105mm fire mission and then run down the map right in the middle of where its coming in. Its so.....beautiful! Flix

I'm very curious to see how CM will handle the awesome power of naval gunfire. The maps on the scenarios so far are kinda of small to support such huge firepower. Just the concussion alone would scramble your guts and pull all of the oxygen out of your lungs. Flix

I've still got the beta version (only because of the Tiger). I'll see what I can do for ya. Flix

I had Across the Rhine years ago. That game was very unstable, I was never able to finish one mission, it crashed everytime. Flix

Why do they run out of the building?!
Flix replied to Flix's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Thanks, Doug. Flix -
I'm wondering why some squads run out of a building that I have placed them in. Can you have to many people in one building? These quys were in a heavy building at the beginning of a turn and then at the end of it they were in open ground.

Barbed Wire Glitch (SPOILER)
Flix replied to All American's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I haven't experienced any problems with the barbed wire either. In fact, one of my squads was hung up on it for half a turn. Flix -
Immoblised info...why is it provided to...
Flix replied to TeAcH's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Well Babra, chalk that up to OSS or French Resistance intel. Flix -
I'm all over that. Flix
