  1. What effect did the American armor acquired by the British in Africa have on the whole campaign?
  2. The series begins Jan. 2001 and is based on the book "Band of Brothers" by Stephen Ambrose. I'm kind of weary about how Spielberg and Hanks will portray this whole thing. They have a tendency to degrade patriotism and portray the Americans of WWII as little more than willing to protect our country. However, I will subscribe to HBO to see this mini-series. There has been collaboration with Ambrose. Having read the book, "Band of Brothers" they will have some really, really big shoes to fill. The jury is still out.
  3. I'm right there with ya brother. I'd love to see a game using the CM engine in a WWIII type setting. The computer tactical wargame that I've played like that is an obscure little game from the late '80's early 90's call "Break Through. I played it on an Amiga 500. What a blast!
  4. It looks very clean. Very attractive. However, it looks a little to clean. Maybe try to dingy it up a bit. I would consider something other than the brushed aluminum bit as well. One other thing, I don't agree with the yellow/black business around the "GO" button. It looks like you put some time into this and it shows. Bravo. I wish I had the know how to do such a thing.
  5. An intro movie would be no problem. Just take some footage from a CMBO game, and put it infront of the main menu. I had some problems at first with all of the commands affliated with the keyboard in this game. Most commands are simply preference sets but I've finally learned most of the unit commands. As for the "Tab" key. Man, that is the best key on the board! I love riding on the top of a Sherman as its hauling down a road tracking a German squad running across an open field. As far as being lazy. Hey, I'm just as lazy as the next guy. Fortunately, my keyboard cord is long enough that I can put it in my lap as I've got my feet up on the desk.
  6. That's the answer I was looking for.
  7. Put up the online catalog and I'll get one of everything!
  8. Well, I can tell you that the maximum effective range of a Panzershreck is at least 203 meters (ask my Sgt. Smith). As for some kind of static table showing effectiveness of a given weapon at different ranges: Have you ever tried nailing a Sherman with a Conscript Panzershreck Team vs. a Veteran Panzershreck Team (regardless of the range)? A static table would make a sweeping generalization, if you will, that the weapon in question was always being operated by people with the exact same experience, training, frame of mind and in the same environment against targets that had all of the same traits. If you are wanting absolutely basic manufacture specs. on effective range and accurancy (as shown in laboratory tests) , do what I did, research. I've noticed something I haven't seen a lot in other wargames, technical detail. If you look at some kind of "Official Jane's Guide to All Weapons Used in WWII" type of reference, you'll most likely be surprised at what a good companion it will be to Combat Mission. These guys spent years on research for this game. I hope this helps, I also hope I didn't come on to strong. We welcome all of those interested in this milestone of computer wargaming know as "Combat Mission". I hope to hear lots more from you. 9. Well, everyone's talking about turning points. I submit that if we hadn't won at Midway, there would not even have been an "Operation Overlord". And if the Japanese hadn't diverted two of their carriers to the Solomons, we probably won't have won. We would still have been fighting a two front war, but our western front would have been VERY close to home. Many people neglect to acknowledge the Pacific theater as a positive or negative factor to the progress of our forces in Europe. Battleships, carriers, crusiers, destroys and other seagoing vessels cost a whole lot of money and stateside workforce to build and repair.
  10. I hear where your coming from aka, it would be cool to advance units behind Shermans towards the enemy line. However, I agree also with Joe in that its really not a "horrible problem" or a "major flaw". Maybe down the road after technology as evolved some more, which in the computer world it does with a rapid pace, it will be feasible. I certainly would welcome the prospect of using vehicles for cover. What kind of exposure would soldiers get from taking cover UNDERNEATH a tank. The possibilities of enhancements are limitless through the evolution of computer gaming through time.
  11. No copies, no way, no how! So when are we going to see the CM merchandising machine crank into action. You know: key chains, pens, water cooled .50's and what not?
  12. I played the Allies against a 50% bumped up Axis force in CE today. This was one of those "down and dirty" types of engagements, lots of casualties on both sides. I had placed myself in a very compromising situation. I had placed several men in the two story "light building" to the left of the map. The game is on turn 32, my men are running low on ammo and getting cut to pieces. They had just fended off the third frontal assault by the Germans which had killed the last Platoon HQ. Now the warm feelin' kicks in. I had the Company HQ on the right side of the map, holding a Victory Flag all alone. I know, I know, what the hell was he doing there in the first place? Well, that's not the point. The Co. HQ was one of those hard core command types: Veteran, +'s in Combat, Command and Moral, you know a real leader. I sent him off running for the building the guys were in and damn the Victory Flag. Those boys needed someone to get them outta there! The Co. HQ ran for three turns finally to get pinned in the wheat field taking two casualties. Straight away, without a second thought, I sent a half strength squad running out the the Co. HQ's position to help give him some cover fire. On the next turn the Axis surrendered. I made some pretty emotionally motivated decisions there. Not because I was mad that the game wasn't going as planned or that I got excited at the thought of initiating an Axis slaughter. I actually felt that those guys needed help. Somebody had to get them through this bloody brawl! Ever got that warm feelin' on the inside?
