Can you run any DirectX games on your PC?
-
Would anyone care to review Combat Mission for me? I'd write one, but I'm a poor wargamer, and my review skills are pretty bad as well. If you don't believe me, check out my review of Mission Impossible 2. Readership of my site is pretty low, but its a start! http://www.stodge.net Thanks!

Had my first CM dream last night
stodge replied to PacifistButLikeWarGames's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I think some people need help! Me? I dream of my girlfriend, being a world famous song-writer or a world class rugby player. Hey, a man can dream! -
I know this is off topic, but does anyone have a KDS monitor? I'm considering buying a KDS VS-21e, and I wondered if anyone here knew anything about them; their quality etc.. Thanks
-
Actually, from my first bout of testing last night, if I turn on FSAA in Win2k, CM seems to work fine. If I turn it off, then the graphics in CM are all screwed up. Weird! I'm going back to Win98, though I'd rather not have to!

What kind of memory are you using? No-name brand, or branded? No, I didnt install the 4-in-1 drivers. If I do that, and then install the Asus (or NVidia) drivers, I cant get a single 3d game to work.
-
I installed the latest 4-in-1 drivers, but they wouldn't work - every 3d game hung the machine stone cold dead. I think the bios of the m/b is 1003. I dont know about the GeForce though. I don't know if it can handle CAS2; I think it's set to automatic right now. I'm not sharing any IRQs with the video card. Thanks

Ok,this is just not cricket! I ran the 3dMark 2000 benchmark, 1024x768 on my PC, and I got 1762. Wait for it, my PC is this: Asus P3V4X P3-700 Asus V7700 GeForce 2 GTS Pure 256Mb (noname memory) Now tell me I'm not losing my marbles! What the hell is going on? I've installed Nvidia's 5.32 reference drivers. I know that the P3V4X has problems with performance, but this is a farce! What the feck are Asus playing at? They bring out 2 products that don't work together!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Scripting, scenario editing and editing saved games
stodge replied to a topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I like the idea of scripting. Endless tweaking and improvements, although I'm sure this would mean a serious re-write of the Game AI Engine. -
Machine specifications and hardware driver details?

Well consider how good a film U571 was. Oh, sorry it was a piece of crap, as was Titanic, Perfect Storm.... etc... As soon as you Hollywood-ise a film, it is ruined.

OT...but DANGIT, the MI deserves better...
stodge replied to Cyrano's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Starship Troopers - the only film that I *almost* walked out of. After only 15 minutes if my memory is right. Heaping pile of crap that it was! -

MULDER?!!!!?????? Where are you?! -
UPDATED! Ohhhhhhhhhhhh I could kiss you all! Finally the bugger works!!! Just need to install my SBLive drivers now, but ohhhhhh I feel good! Shame it's 11:25pm. It's only taken me 5 bloody hours!! Thanks again! [This message has been edited by stodge (edited 07-19-2000).]

Ok,Ive gone back to Win98. I'm about the load the 5.32reference drivers. Should I install these, and then install DirectX 7, or install DirectX 7 and then install the GeForce drivers? Many thanks!
-
I uninstalled the old ATI software. Then I removed the display card from the control panel. I just tried the Asus card under Win2000 (clean install). Once I rebooted after I installed the Win2k Asus drivers (3.84e), the screen goes blank, and my SB Live just screams an almight high pitch sound. No go there. The CM CD is in the drive waiting to be installed. Waste of money so far UPDATE Ok, I installed the 5.32 drivers, and everything seems ok. When I tried CM though, I selected 1024x768 @ 75Hz. All the colours were screwed up in the game, and a lot of the graphics were a mess. Any ideas? Thanks [This message has been edited by stodge (edited 07-19-2000).] [This message has been edited by stodge (edited 07-19-2000).]

I've tried the latest drivers from Asus' website; 5.22e I believe, and also the ones on the CD that came with the card. I dont know what version is on there. I installed the latest DirectX from the MS Update site. I downloaded some NVidia drivers, but they wouldn't install properly for some reason. Maybe I didnt' clear out the old drivers properly.

I can't get ANY direct X games to work with the Asus V7700 GeForce 2 card I just installed, never mind Combat Mission. I'm using Asus' 5.22e drivers. Any suggestions? Thanks

Is there a wooden spoon prize for the worst score? What do I get for not being able to answer them?

How have you punished screwball troops?
stodge replied to Havermeyer's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I turn them into hex shaped 2d units and ban them to star in Talonsoft's West Front, never to appear in full, glorious 3d again. Ok, so it made me laugh anyway [This message has been edited by stodge (edited 07-17-2000).] -
You're passing on CM? My life is over!!! Thanks for trying your "evaluation" copy. Sorry it didn't appeal to you.
-
Any ideas what's in 1.03, or have I just missed the important post?

I found this program through http://www.sysopt.com, which lets you change the refresh rate of your PS/2 mouse. The default value is 40Hz, and you can set it all the way up to 200Hz. I installed it, and the mouse just feels smoother - I noticed a slight improvement in the 3d engine of CM, but that could just be too much caffeine and sugar!!!! I hope this will be of use to someone. Post below with your results and experiences with this program. Cheers
