#1 Reason why I don't PBEM or TCP/IP
Epée replied to Guy w/gun's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
This sounds like an overheating problem. You could try underclocking your videocard, or running CM with your PC case (cabinet?) open. Epée -
How do you take picture of your game?
Epée replied to SS Zaku's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I'll take the opportunity and suggest that CM2 should have a command for taking snapshots and saving them automatically as .pcx or .gif files. Epee -
Just tried to get to www.matrixgames.com to download Steel Panthers, but their site is temporarily down (being moved to new servers). Anybody know another site I can download SPWAW from? Epee

Enemy at the Gates is the best war book I have ever read. I was lucky to find a copy at amazon for US$40. Epee

Anybody got Diplomacy, by Hasbro? I really love the board game, but honestly, can artificial intelligence get any worse than that on this game? No wonder Squad Leader (also by Hasbro) failed so miserably at even resembling anything fun and enjoyable. Gamespot gave it a review score of 4.0. But wait, just checked out the score for Battlecruiser 3000: 2.6 here is an excerpt: "We will probably never know. Battlecruiser 3000 A.D. is now out, and as one of the games with the longest development periods in computer history (seven years), it will go down in legend as the most bug-ridden, unstable, unplayable pieces of software ever released. (And, yes, I'm counting Falcon 3.0 and Patriot.)" Seems I was lucky to bypass this one completely! Epee

The last in service: Brazillian Stuarts
Epée replied to Slapdragon's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Heh, we are going way off topic here. What do you mean Epee hurts like heck? Remember with the Epee you only use the point of your weapon to score points, while with the sabre you can slash your opponents, and damn, does that hurt! Sabre is for butchers! You always end up bruised when you fence sabre! Epee -

I fenced a lot of Epee, that is why I have this nick. Slapdragon, if you are going to read Os Sertões, you might want to skip the first part altogether. It only describes the geography of the region, it is difficult to read and boring. The rest of the book is excellent. Epee -

Slapdragon, actually it does have an english translation. It is called "Rebellion in the Backlands". Check out the reviews at amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0226124444/o/qid=980467454/sr=8-1/ref=aps_sr_b_1_1/103-0438054-7703028 Epée -

Even though I am a brazilian myself, I had never heard of those Stuarts in our armed forces. "Os Sertões" is considered by many the greatest piece of brazilian literature, but it is a very hard read, even for those whose native language is portuguese. Epée -

Seeing map before unit purchasing
Epée replied to Fenris's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I think this is a very good idea. Remember that it would be an _option_. If somebody thinks it is unrealistic, just skip it. Knowing the terrain you are to attack could be something gained from recon, maps, aircraft spotting, previous battles, etc. Not to mention of course the defenders, who should no the terrain quite well beforehand. Rob/1, really, why don´t you use the spell-checker that this BBS has? It really would save you a lot of harassment. Epée [This message has been edited by Epée (edited 12-10-2000).]

read this today on www.gamers.com, think it might be of some interest. Does this mean they will be responsible for ASL and former AH games as well? "An inside source at Infogrames reports that in a company meeting held today, employees were told that the company has bought Hasbro Interactive. Rumors of the deal have been circulating for some time, but the PR department at Infogrames had denied the story. Infogrames will purchase 100% of the common stock of Hasbro Interactive and Games.com (which just launched on December 5) for $100 million. It also gets the right to develop and publish games based on all Hasbro properties, like Monopoly and Dungeons and Dragons. Hasbro will receive an annual sum from Infogrames based on sales generated from the licensing agreement. Shareholders and regulatory committees still need to sign off on the deal, but the companies expect it to close early in the first quarter of 2001." Epee

Aka_Tom, I told Fangorn about my heroic Stuart, but didn't tell him any names...but now that you confessed, it was a funny situation. When the Panther showed itself in the battlefield, I nearly panicked! One Stuart vs. a Panther!! But then it started moving itself towards me in reverse, and I was bewildered thinking why the hell that was happening. The rest is history.
