  1. Hello Philippe my good friend. That'll be me. I remember we worked together on some of the CMMOS packs back in the day. Good to see another vet still hanging around here.
  2. It's my understanding that Charles isn't allowed internet access in his "work room" (read cell), so something must be up!
  3. I reckon the patch is ready because it appears that Madmatt has unlocked the door and let Charles out. It's not often you see Steve & Charles on the boards at the same time.
  4. Hey Charles! They let you out! While your around...1:1 is great, but by it's nature it leaves nothing to the imagination. So, anything you can do to address squad behaviour when in combat would be much appreciated. This game is as equally frustrating as it is brilliant at the moment, but i am confident you can fix her up. And thanks for the patch update. Sounds promising. All the best Charles.
  5. Dr.Jones, Thank You for trying to help me out. I have a 2nd machine running XP, so i will install TOW and it's modding tools on there. p.s - thanks for making your modding software available for us to use. It's much appreciated! All the best.
  6. I have no problem with not being able to control each individual guy in my squad, but once in combat i do have a problem with 60-70% of my guys having a picnic at the back of the formation.
  7. Pushing squads around the map works great apart from Pathfinding issues that i understand will be addressed, but the 1:1 representation really breaks down once you get into combat. What is the point of having AT assets or marksmen doing nothing at the rear of the squad and with you having no way to get them online without making adjustments to the whole squad, who then invariably get slaughtered because you end up exposing them to unnecessary fire.
  8. Once contact has been made you have really don't have any control over the way your men are positioned when trying to gain LOS/LOF, and hence 1:1 fidelity is completely lost.
  9. Sorry for another post, but whats the effective range for the Syrians? They're killing my guys well enough.
  10. Thanks Huntarr, 1.03 seems to place a 9 man squad into roughly 3x3 rows. The front guys (sometimes) fire back, but the other SIX just sit there spotting!? They get killed as well! Has this been addressed in 1.04?
  11. Here's some of my finding's after spending some time with CM:SF. I'm not all that concerned about pathfinding issues, because i believe that BFC (Charles) will deal with that, but: CM:SF is a "simulation" that supposedly represents 1:1 combat between US and Syrian forces in a hypothetical conflict in the near future. To me, 1:1 combat means that each element (1:1) of your, and the OPFOR, should be able to play some sort of part on the battlefield. This isn't happening in this game. Yeah, i'm seeing 1:1 soldiers on the map, but what's the point if most of them don't appear to be doing FA ? 10/10 i see soldiers not firing back when in clear LOF to the enemy and getting killed. If the OPFOR has LOS & LOF why aren't my men doing something other than "spotting" and getting wasted? I spend precious minutes in a time limited scenario trying to get squads into what i think are good firing positions and advantage points, only to find that once they get there, most of them are unable to fire anyway due to the way that LOF/LOS seems to be calculated (my men are clearly in LOS & LOF because they are being shot at, and dying very quickly without shooting back?). What's the point in carefully guiding a modern day US Infantry squad with all the weaponry they have at their disposal into a good firing position if once they get there only 1 or 2 out of 9 guys actually appear to engage in combat? Your squad is geting decimated at the back and they just sit there "spotting" ?? A pointless exercise if you ask me. Beta-Testers - was this issue of 1:1 and what you were actually seeing on the BF mentioned at any stage? Patch 1.04 - does it address this? Pathfinding - i believe you will fix this Some TactAI behaviour - As above 1:1 representation - Game design issue. Serious flaws (IMHO). If not, please tell me how this is going to be fixed. If i'm wrong in what i am saying, then please feel free to educate me! [ September 27, 2007, 10:44 PM: Message edited by: Manx ]
  12. Hey! I once had an email off Charles. thanking me for some work (unpaid) i had been doing to promote CMBO. No matter what you may think of CMSF, the man is a coding legend, and always will be. p.s - CMBB will NEVER leave my hardrive !
  13. Thank You for your time and effort you put into making these. Nice work!
  14. Hi Steve, I opened a thread in the Stategy & Tactics forum about this called "Laying down fire and squad formations". So, if only 2 out of say 9 guys are actually engaging in combat (i.e firing back) what are the others doing? Is their inactivity abstracted and not what we actually seeing?
  15. No, still no good. A dialog box comes up saying: "IMFViewer has stopped working", "A Problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program". It gives you one option to click - "Close the program". God i love Vista
  16. Dr. Jones, Thanks for the reply. Yes, i have Directx 9.0c dated 31/07. I am just downloading an updated (August) pack for it. Will post back with the results in a short while.
  17. Is the IMFViewer compatible with 32bit Vista? When i try to run it, it immediately crashes. I have the .exe and it's .dll in the MissionEditor folder. Has anyone got this running through Vista, and if so, what could the problem be with mine. TIA.
  18. ..and then suddenly as if from nowhere, a serene calmness descended on this thread and everything was again peaceful. Tranquility once more restored. Can't see it lasting though!
  19. I intend to give BFC the benefit of the doubt with CM:SF and see how things stand after patch 1.04 or 1.05 (if there is one). If things haven't improved by then i really can't see the point in buying any future modules for it. I'd take another look at the series again when CMx2:WWII appears.
  20. Believe it. BFC's stance from Day One of release was "Don't let the door hit you on your posterior on the way out." They wrote the game they want, which is fine. They don't much care if you (or I) want it or not. -dale </font>
  21. it should be sometime this week for sure (I think) </font>
  22. tom3d, have you tried setting "extension limit" to OFF in your nvidia control panel. I was getting Runtime Error #3 when it was switched on.
  23. I'm a little concerned about this too. Some of the games current issues are far from being easy fixes and would require major design changes to implement, even if BFC were to agree to doing something about them. See my thread "Laying down fire and squad formations" in the tactics forum for one such issue that's a real game breaker for me at the moment, and i don't suppose would be an easy fix to make.
