  3. And don't forget esstsets or whatever they call them... That'll be Schloß, not Schloss... and Fluß, and Gießen. And Schürzen is much cooler than Schuerzen. Damn, I love German, even if I can hardly speak it.
  4. nee-naaw nee-naaw nee-naaw nee Allo allo allo, wot's goin' on 'ere then. The problem with hangover cures is that you're always too hung over to remember that they don't actually work. Alcohol shuts off your fluid intake, so you can drink as much water as you like, but it'll just go straight through you. As Marky Mark points out, the solution is to drink water before you start on the alcohol. And that'll be your final warning! 5. RAVE is dead. It was dead before CMBO was released. Charles probably doesn't fancy coding OpenGL support, and that's okay, because Mac OS X has backwards compatibility. But releasing new games based on RAVE is something to be avoided, simply because it's old technology and isn't supported any more. I picked up a Voodoo 5500 card on the cheap, and 3Dfx's RAVE support seems to be very poor. Even with FSAA turned off, it's slower at 640x480 than my ATI Nexus at 1600x1200. I wonder whether nVidia are supporting RAVE with their new Mac cards.
  6. There is a button that allows you to switch off the elevation numbers while in terrain mode. White with green text at the top left of the screen, if my memory serves me well (which it usually does). David
  7. I long time ago I was nominated Board Police by our good friend Jeff (of the Heidman variety), so I intend to fulfil this role in the Peng Thread, and if anyone steps out of line I shall come down on them (sit down bauhaus!!) like a ton of polystyrene beads and proceed to bore them into submission with a long-winded and toothless rebuttle (to quote Maximus) of their offending post. You have been threatened. =0
  8. neee-naaaw neee-naaaw neee-naaaw neee David gets out of squad car with flashing blue light strapped to helmet Right you lot, get back in line! If we're going to continue lurking around in the shadows here, we've got to remember that we're part of a fly-on-the-wall documentary, and our activities are broadcast to a pre-watershed audience! Anyone saying, posting or linking to anything not suitable for toddlers will be stoned and sent PBEM setups with Elite 120mm rocket FOs versus Conscript infantry! Enough of the puerile schoolyard crap-flinging, we can be childish without being immature!
  9. MrHappy is an alter-ego. The above post is no less than I would expect from the originator, as the most vitriolic person on the forum and, indeed, someone who has founding interests in the Peng Thread...
  10. ... Vigorous Flanking On The Steppes and Rear Penetrations In The Bocage. Bauhaus's head was swelling dangerously when an SdKfz 234/2 Puma, buttoned and thus suffering from limited LOS, crashed into the branch from which he was hanging and knocked him into the air. Performing a triple-sumersault double-flip head-spin, he inadvertantly landed on NipponBoy, who had been roaming the countryside looking for forces of evil to combat, in a perfect karate killer move which sent the latter flying through the window of a nearby building which mg had just placed in the scenario editor on top of his field gun, utilising a loophole in the game to place artillery pieces indoors. Bouncing off the gun, NipponBoy landed on the desk of Heinrich von Haufenstaufen, a largely unknown Prussian aristocrat who, as a valued member of Hitler's government, was charged with orchestrating...
  11. ...envelopes and stamps and get licking!" Unfortunately for bauhaus something was lost in the translations, and the Spetsnaz troopers thought he was asking for sexual favours. Ten minutes later, bauhaus pondered the unusual turn of events, as he hung upside down from a nearby tree. cut to slide show image of tree The Larch. The Russians, intending to castrate him, had discovered that this was unnecessary and, taking pity on him, had simply left him to die of horrific brain damage as the blood swelled his brain, formed clots and would ultimately cause his grey matter to explode through his eyes and ears. Oblivious to his impending doom, bauhaus...

If the target line is blue, then it will be the same as a issuing a complete new order (i.e. longer time). This is correct. If you're retargeting, you can 'adjust' fire as long as the targeting line is green, which it will be within a certain radius of your original target. If it turns blue it's a whole new fire mission with the full delay. In other words, no need to 'test' new targets – just make sure you note the delay when you call in your first fire mission. > Apparently you can cancel this "blue" order and retain your old one by hitting the space bar. I've never got it to work for me though... You can cancel any order you're about to give with the Space Bar. Say your FO has called in a fire mission, you press T to retarget, but then change your mind, you press Space before you click to confirm that target, ie. while the targetting line is still attached to the cursor. 14. Bloody hell Matt, stop sitting around and get this fixed! I paid for this game, and I distinctly remember the license agreement bequeathing us your souls, so I expect better service!! I want a "print" button on the website that will do the necessary page setup and scaling, load paper into my printer, and read my mind to work out how many copies I want! You guys had better keep up, or someone else will copy your ideas and do it better and sell it to a wider audience, and you'll go out of business!!
  15. Did you pre-target the barbed wire, so that it would know the engineers were coming even when they were out of LOS? You also have to make sure that the wire coils aren't blocking each other's LOS. Spread them out in long lines separated by maybe 100-150 yards, so that they have a chance to see the enemy approaching. It's also best to have them in a hull-down position, and make sure they don't button up or their spotting ability will be reduced. Finally, it helps if you drop smoke in front of the enemy so that they won't see the wire coming. David

  22. As I have said many times before, in my opinion BTS should not spend any time adding features to the game which are not historical or accurate, except where they are necessary for playability. A "damage" texture for tanks is simply innacurate and misleading. It reminds me of Quake – when someone is killed, their texture changes not to reflect the wound which killed them, but instead is a grotesque bloodied corpse. This reflects how it is necessary to produce one catch-all texture, because producing textures which would look right in various different circumstances would be a lot of work, and simply not worth the effort to say "this is dead". BTS has programmed visual cues into the 3D engine for this purpose – a tank will drop its barrel or a vehicle will sit at an angle. This is relatively straightforward. Actually changing the appearance is a different kettle of fish, and making it look credible the majority of the time is a whole lot more work on top of this. The whole thing strikes me as totally over the top to represent a dead vehicle which, as such, you are unlikely to pay much more attention to. If it was knocked out without explosion or fire, it will just have a hole in it somewhere. If it burned or exploded, this is already represented in the game. Unless any additions are accurate and informative, I don't see the point in BTS spending a minute (let alone the many hours necessary) to implement them. David
