2. It's just one of the many poignant and valuable truths written by Japan's greatest samurai, Miyamoto Musashi. There are several copies of his works floating around, as well as Eiji Yoshikawa's story of Musashi's life (entitled "Musashi"), and the film trilogy starring Toshiro Mifune (entitled "The Samurai Trilogy" as a whole, the individual movies are "Musashi Miyamoto," "Duel at Ichijoji Temple," and "Duel at Ganryu Island." Many video stores carry these... I have the DVDs myself ) ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 3.
quote:
Originally posted by RobC: I think you ought to put simple one-page adds in the major computer game magazines and attempt to distribute the game in major national stores such as electronic boutique as well as the internet computer game resellers

I don't know much about the software selling industry, or how much you have to pay to have places like EB sell your titles, but one thing I DO know is that magazine industry... and let me tell you, magazine ads are not cheap. Do you have any idea what it would cost to put a full-page ad in a national magazine like CGM? Or even an eighth of a page, for that matter? Magazines like that are run in large part by advertising, and the established mags charge a good penny for ad space... A better (and far less expensive) route is to have your game featured in reviews, which CM will be in future issues of several magazines. ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 4. Well, I wrote to Gamespot when the gold demo came out, addressing a carbon copy e-mail to the people in charge, asking them to take a look at it... apparently, they're not interested in a game unless its a RTS, FPS or for the Dreamcast. Watch Gamespot TV on ZDTV sometime and you'll get that feeling real quick... ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 5. Sorry, my main reference guide only lists the 600 Shermans that were converted, but doesn't break them down by variant... although there is a multi-view painting of an example of the Sherman II along with its specs. If anyone wants the pic file, I'll scan it... ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 6. Oh, I almost forgot The Great Escape... probably my all-time favorite war movie that doesn't feature all that much warring Plus, you've got to love Steve McQueen as Hilts (ummm... that's Captain Hilts). ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 7. Hmmm... without differentiating my favorites into realistic/non-realistic categories, I've got to say that some of my faves are (in no particular order): The Dirty Dozen ("... then you don't know Victor Franco), Force 10 from Navarone (mainly cause I'm a Robert Shaw/Harrison Ford junkie), A Bridge Too Far, Bridge Over the River Kwai, Sands of Iwo Jima, Midway, Kelly's Heroes, and Hell in the Pacific (starring Lee Marvin and the fantastic Toshiro Mifune... there's not much dialogue in this film about an American and a Japanese soldier isolated on this island, but the gripping and realistic nature of the film makes it a good one, although the end is fairly depressing...) ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 9. Ok, be careful people, the last thing we need on this board is a disgruntled postal worker
 10. I hadn't played a wargame since "Conflict in Vietnam" by Microprose (back in the day when MP made quality stuff) when I tried CM. Now I, too, walk around the ranch here in Montana and look around for hull-down positions, good strategic ridges, places that could be turned into killing fields with a well placed ambush... I think I'm sick... ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 11. Hmmm... that's a tough question. But I think I'd have to go with the Tiger I (I've really missed not having one, as we did in the beta demo), the mighty Jagdpanther, and the Wirbelwind, mainly because I enjoy saying Wirbelwind. Try it, say it out loud... it's fun ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 12. I'd be into a shirt, as long as it was cool looking and didn't feature too much overkill... I'm not interested in some gigantic pic on the front... I'd rather have a cool poster to hang on the wall... ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 13. Well, I went out and bought one of Cambridge's $50 sub and satellite systems just for CM... borrowed a couple Sony speakers from my entertainment center setup and, voila... my iMac DV SE sounds larger than life
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Formerly Babra: I didn't know Academy was re-releasing other kits. Thanks for the Heads Up.

Well, the 1/25 Panther and Jagdpanther come in two styles (that much I've figured out on my own )... one with one large motor and one with two motors, one for each track, I assume. I've been told that the older version, the one motor series, may have a problem with the chassis riding too high, probably to give more clearance to the tracks. I'm waiting on a couple of "experts" to weigh in before I throw down the $50 on either one. Actually, I'd love to pick up the Tamiya Panther, but don't have $200 to throw at the moment... Anyway, both the 1/25 Panther and Jagdpanther are available at www.internethobbies.com , www.phoenix-model.com , www.hobbylandinc.com , and the nice guy at www.blitzkrieghobby.com has offered to get me one after he's found out more info for me on the quality of the kit, etc. And now it's late and I'm rambling... if anyone else has any thoughts, on either model, please feel free to ring in ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 15. I don't know why you guys are acting so jubilant... the arrival of this game at homes across the world means only the deaths of millions of digital soldiers... hasn't anyone thought of them?!? Doesn't anyone give a crap for the computerized grunt, slugging along under fire because some inexperienced gamer told him to single-handedly assault a MG pillbox? My word... the callousness displayed here is truly frightening...
 16. Hey all... I'm thinking about picking up one of Academy's 1/25 motorized tank model kits, either the Panther or JagdP. Anyone out there build either of these? If so, gimme your opinion asap oh... i mean, please ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 17. Well, I already said I was in favor of it... so there, and I was one of the chuckleheads standing in line to see Ep.1... 3am on the day tickets went on sale, and I was about 20th in line... ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 19. Actually, Steve's quick and extremely polite e-mail replies to my dumb questions were what caused me to preorder in the first place. I liked the game a lot already, but when I asked a few things over e-mail, and one of the programmers actually wrote back and answered them... and cordially, no less!!... 20. Speaking of warm feelings... I played VoT tonight and watched the actual battle almost exclusively from the "turret cam" of my Shermans... what a thrill! It's really an interesting exercise if you haven't tried it, especially if you do as I did and start your 105s from the road on the left (after the 75 bunker is KO'd from arty), roll em down the road, across the fields and through the forest area in the valley. Watching it from turret cam is really a little breathtaking... especially as Germans are running away through the wooded areas, and the turret is turning to chase them down with HE and MGs. You get the sense that you're really there on the field with the action... a very zen-like moment Oh, and by the way, I won (even-strength, so it wasn't really fair) 96-4. ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 21. --placing my hand on my DVD copy of Musashi-- I most solemnly swear to never even allow the thought of copying CM to enter my warped mind. I will not, ever, make a copy... even if I ever happen to buy a CD burner So help me Toshiro Mifune... ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 22. 23.
quote:
Originally posted by guachi: Hmmm.... Gives me an idea. It could be fun doing a Star Wars version of CM. All new Star Wars sounds as well as changing the unit pics on the tool bar to SW ones.

Now THERE's a good idea I could see little squads of 'troopers and rebels running all over the VoT... it could be like Force Commander should have been... fun ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. 25.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Me thinks that the complaining I see every now and again is coming from the sore losers who don't want to admit that they have more to learn than their "expert" minds wish to admit

Well, my problem didn't exactly involve a cowardly schreck team... that I can deal with. It's the indecision that really peeved me, as if the schreck was trying to decide who to kill while a tank was directly in front of him... I've had a conscript schreck team under fire take out a moving Sherman at a pretty sizeable distance in CE, so I know that the randomness is there... but I can accept it. If EVERY time I walked a schreck team up to an unsuspecting tank and the anti-tank team did their job, it would take the "real-life" aspect out of the game And as far as being an expert, I know that comment wasn't directed at me... If there's one thing I've learned in life it's that you're RARELY an expert at anything. Proficient to the extreme perhaps, but not expert... I've got lots to learn about tactics... which is why I'm getting Rommel's book... Anyways, I'm going to stop before I get to rambling... ------------------ In fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm.
