2. WOW! Is it my imagination? or is that a Nashorn sitting there in the street? There's one place where Hitler made the right call... they originally had named it the Hornisse (Hornet), but Hitler insisted on a nastier, more powerful moniker... the Rhinocerous. Man, seeing that gets my juices flowing big-time Thanks Matt!
 3. Ok, I'll throw my hat in with the other "junior" members here... I've been checking out the board since last... hmmm... last December? I can't remember now for sure... but I came to Battlefront after d-loading the CM demo from AOL. I ordered it the next day, I think. But you know the thing that really impressed me? (and I know you older members know this about Steve already ) When I first saw the game and got interested in it, the first thing I did was e-mail BTS to ask if they were still planning on releasing a Mac version, though if I had been smart about it at all, I would have gone to the board first and found out for myself. Steve sent me back such a quick, courteous e-mail that I was stunned. And it also made me feel that I was making the right decision about pre-ordering, no matter when the game came out. So how many posts do I hafta make to shed the "junior" status, huh?? Or is it a time-lapse thing??
 4. "Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord...conquering the gaming world, one squad at a time" And thanks a bunch for giving the Mac community a war game of substance, guys. It's pretty sad to walk down the aisle of the local software/videos/music store and find probably 20 or so different wargaming titles and find that none of them are for Mac and never have been made for Mac. Not that most other wargames are worth playing, but it'd have been nice to at least try out Panzer General 3D (i think thats what its called) or some other game like that while I'm waiting for the grand poobah of all wargames. <sigh> oh well, I guess I'll just have to stick with ol'CM
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Compassion: And how do I know? Uh... I dunno... I don't have any action dollies....

He he ... speak for yourself. Sittin on my shelf just a few feet away are a Kettenkrad and a Schwimmwagen, complete with a 12" Wehrmacht squad Although I'm saving my money now for the Me-109 that's coming out next year... I just hope they release some kind of Luftwaffe uniform to go with it... But on the topic of meeting places for the par-tay, I don't much care. Wherever we have it will be a loooong way away from Montana most likely, so it doesn't much matter. Too bad we can't rent out the Patton museum or something
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Lindan:

Steve and Charles signing copies of CM
buying vastly overpriced CM T-shirts, coffee mugs and other merchandising stuff, including "Madmatt"-action figures.

Personally, I'll hold out until they make the variant Madmatt figure that transforms from man to Tiger tank and has the snap-on armor and the glow-in-the-dark utility belt. And maybe he could talk or something. But I like the idea of the release party thing... I'm always up for overpriced t-shirts... although I'm wondering if it might not be too scary for Steve and Charles to see exactly who's buying their game? I'd even consider driving/flying from Montana to be there...
 7. Yeah, and make sure to throw in some of the old Victory at Sea music... I love that stuff
 8. Thanks for the input, guys. Airwarrior sounds intriguing... I'll have to check that one out (can't resist a free trial... he he). By the way, any recommendations for a good USB joystick that's Mac compatible? I'm shopping around for one, but first-hand reviews from the esteemed members of this panel carry a lot of weight in my book
 9. Thanks for the heads up about Warbirds... but personally I'm not much into online-only games like that. I got out of multiplayer gaming after I figured out that there are a lot of morons (present company excluded, of course) who roam the multiplayer halls, seeking whom they can frustrate. So after getting smoked countless times in Jedi Knight and other FPS by little kids with cheat codes, I vowed never to multiplayer again. Of course, WW2Online sounds cool, but I have a feeling, as has been said by other members here, that the cooperative aspect of that game (which would be the big selling point for me) wouldn't be so cooperative. We'll see... Anyways, just my two cents
 10. Sorry for the off-topic thread, but I wanted to let the Mac CM users know that there's a decent WW2 flight sim coming out fairly soon. I've been looking for something... ANYTHING... to pass the time until CM gets dropped into my sweaty little mitts, and I happened upon this game through Mac Gamer's Ledge. It's not bad... the graphics aren't fantastic but they're acceptible; it's a beta demo, and we all know how those get improved Anyway, the main site is www.dogfightcity.com and the game is WW2 Skyfighters 2000 or something along those lines. It's already got me interested cause you can fly a Corsair (my fave), but there's several others included too. The demo should keep me busy till the REAL game comes out [This message has been edited by Miyamoto Musashi (edited 04-02-2000).]
 11. I've been digging through all my grad school history books, looking for a decent book on WW2 battles with maps, etc. that I could use to create scenarios once CM reaches my sweaty little palms. I've got a couple of decent tactical books, but no good, detailed maps were included (that's what they give you in grad school for the most part... books with no pictures... books you're required to READ... ) Does anyone (Fionn, et al) have any suggestions for good books I could get battle scenarios from? Hopefully this hasn't been asked in the past, but I've only been a part of the CM universe since post 12,000 or so. PS--good websites would be just as helpful... 12. 20 tanks a side?!? Wow... my knees are feeling a little weak. All these months trying to conserve my precious few Shermans and StuGs, and now I can play with 20? The first thing I'll do is just send 'em all in at once, suicide or not, just to see what a REAL column of tanks looks like. Man, I just can't get rid of this giddy feeling... kind of like the first time I saw the old Star Wars wireframe arcade game and played it when I was a little kid... does anyone else remember that, or does that date me too much?
 13. So Steve... as a member of the CM Macintosh crowd, I'm wondering how CM will run on my PPC G3 400 (192 Mb RAM... the real stuff, not virtual) with an ATI Rage 128 card (8 Mb)? Does the fact that I have an 8 Mb card mean I won't be able to run some of those "big'uns"? (I know, I know... I'll have to wait for the gold demo to see, but I thought I'd ask anyway to get your pre-demo opinion.)
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Ol' Blood & Guts: They trash Force Commander for having "dated graphics" only because they don't have a unnecessarily high polygon count.

Just for the record, my brother picked up Force Commander a few days ago, and I thought the graphics were just fine. Obviously not in a league strategy-wise with CM, but as far as RTS titles go, it was just fine... definitely not deserving of the nasty reviews it's been getting from all the "experts." And now that I'm posting, let me put in my two cents and say thanks again to Steve and Charles for producing this most excellent of games. I keep watching and watching the trailer... over and over again... simply in awe. I really hope this game catches on and gets you guys the recognition and awards you deserve.
 15. Well, my dad always told me don't say nothin' unless you have something worthwhile to add. Most of the time on here people have said exactly what I was thinking or made the point I would have made, so there was no need... but after seeing the new movie, I had to say somethin'.
 16. Ok, to this point I've been a lurker on this BB, though I preordered CM several months ago. But after seeing that movie, I HAD to take the time to register and say that I am absolutely giddy after seeing the improvements. The running, the different weapons... my fave part so far was the shot of the zook doing its business, but it was all tremendous. Watching that film (and I'm on my 5th viewing already having just downloaded it minutes ago) makes me VERY thankful that I happened upon the CM demo a while back. Keep up the good work, fellas!
