And no, I'm not British.

Well, no joy here in Houston. The mailman has come and gone and no CM. Maybe Monday for me and Tuesday for the West coast? It is a perfect day for CM too....raining so I can't do my usual outside stuff like mowing the lawn. Today is my 13th wedding anniversary and my wife is expecting a night on the town. If CM would have arrived today she might have gotten pizza and a rental movie while I played CM. Of course if this occured, this might have been my last anniversary. 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Mattias: To all those using this card... There is talk of a serious bug in the installation routines of the V 5500. Some users are reporting significant performance increase after making a minor update of drivers in Windows. If this cockup is indeed as bad as it looks 3Dfx has really shot itself in the foot on this one.

Well, I originally bought a V5 but my machine frequently had hard crashes with the new card. I worked on it for 3 days straight with no luck. when the card did work, CM looked fantastic with the FSAA. I traded the V5 in for a Creative Annihilator 2. The FSAA is not as good as the V5 but the colors look more vibrant. I would have liked to have kept the V5 but after 3 days of tinkering, the crash to play ratio was just too high for me. Allan

 5. Nothing yet in Houston. I pre-ordered mine back in June 99 so I would hope it would be in the first batch. Allan
 6. I ordered mine June of 99 so I am hoping mine will be in the first 50 also. The mail just came and no joy today Hopefully tomorrow. Allan
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by SuperTed: I am able to get my hands on a Diamond Stealth III S540 Xtreme for about $80. Is that a good card and/or a good deal? Thanks again for the feedback. SuperTed

Bad card with bad drivers. I saw a Creative TNT2 for about $120 and a Voodoo3 for about $100. Put together a little more cash and go for one of these. I have heard bad stories about the S540. Just my $.02 Allan
 8. I have researched both of the latest cards from 3dfx and Nvidia (Voodoo5 and GeForce2). I currently own a V3 and a TNT2 ultra. Both flavors of cards are excellent and both have their pluses and minuses. If you play older glide-based games like Red Baron and some other flight sims then the 3dfx card may be for you. If you play games like Quake, Homeworld et al then the Nvidia card may be a better choice. I really want to stress both are very good cards. Now for the latest generation of cards. After doing some intensive research on both, I decided to go with the V5 since I play a lot of flight sim type of games (F4 and EAW) which I feel would benefit more from the V5's features. I installed the V5 and the FSAA feature (gets rid of jagged edges) made my games look just wonderful. However, I had problems with my machine doing some serious hard crashes that required a full reboot. I think is a driver related issue. I know several people who have had no problems at all with the V5 so it may be just my machine. I took the V5 back and exchanged it for a Creative Annihilator 2 (Nvidia GTS2 chip). I have had no problems at all. The colors are more vibrant with the Nvidia based card but the FSAA looked better on the V5. Basically it comes down to what you like to play. Both 3dfx and Nvidia based cards are good products. Allan

 10. We are on the eve of a day that people will be talking about after we are dead and buried.....Sorry, just watched "The Longest Day". Allan
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Maximus: Allan, why would he go from a P200 to just a PII-233??? The object is to upgrade his system.

Oops, I must have misread the post. For some reason I thought he had just a plain old Pentium. Oh well, it is the thought that counts. Allan
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by MantaRay: OOPS, you live in the Land Down Under...well, disreguard the prices, they are US ones. Ray

Oops. Same here Stuka. How much would it cost to mail a PII233 to Australia from the US? Heck, if it is not too much, I will just give you the PII if you want it. Allan
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Stuka: HI guys, I don't mind spending the bucks but I don't want to waste them. Comments please

Upgrading to 128MB for win98 should be about ideal. Any more ram and you start to get diminishing returns. Next, get rid of that V2. Heck, when I upgrade my son's computer in a week or so, I will sell you his V3 and his old PII233 for $50. A PIII 600 is running about $225 (or less) right now so I do not know this fits into your budget. You might also want to pick up a nice little mag called "Maximum PC". The most recent issue is dedicated to upgrading your PC. It is written in layman's terms so it is easy reading. I hope this helps. Allan

 16. Just wondering if anybody has had their cards charged this week (other than those that expired in May) since CM is VERY close. Allan
 17. I have to agree, these guys are top notch in support. They also have a nice product too It is for these reasons that I will continue to support BTS. Keep up the good work guys. Allan
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by CoolColJ: Yes I concede that Well at least I can texture AA on a my TNT2 I'm saving for a 64 meg Leadtek Geforcce GTS2

Hey CoolColJ, I just read a nice article in Maximum PC magazine about upgrading. In regards to video cards, we TNT2 ultra owners should wait till fall when the NV20 or Rampage arrive. The GTS2 and the V5 are nice but if you can wait the next generation chips are awesome. However, if money is no object or you absolutely need the added features, then the V5 and GTS2 are nice toys. Personally, I am weighing my options of upgrading my cpu (PIII-450) to a PIII 800 or getting a GTS2 or V5. I can only afford one and after reading this article, I am leaning toward the cpu. Allan
 19. Count me in too. No illegal copies! Those pirates can only have my copy of CM when they pry it from my cold, dead cd-rom drive. Allan
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Rob/1: That is my question.

Well if I read correctly, The CD's and manuals should be arriving at the warehouse early next week. Actual shipping of orders should follow closely. Allan
 21. Well I just watched a movie called "Dogma". It is about two angels trying to get back into Heaven( Matt Damon and Ben Affleck). It is almost Monty Python like in its style. Anyway, the point being during one scene, Alan Rickman who is an angel appears to a mortal. The mortal starts spouting religous quotes or something. Alan Rickman then says(paraphrasing) "Geez what's up with you people? You see "The Ten Commandments" (the movie) and everbody is an expert in theology. Don't you ever read?" Maybe this is a case of Hollywood making fun of itself and its impact on society. Oh well, food for thought. Allan

Mike

I am up here in Spring. PBEM it is then! Jager 7 and I will practice while you are in Japan You poor slob, thousands of miles away from your lonely copy of CM sitting in your mailbox. Allan
