1. The demo seems pretty good. Sort of like an updated Clash of Steel with more options.
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Von Brizee: Damn, I wish I could have finished my game with Basil. I was romping him, it would have raised my score a whole lot. Popped both his tanks and had his infantry surrounded and being smashed with little loss of my own. Oh well, such is luck.

Yeah, I got screwed by him bailing out too. Oh well.
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by von shrad: LETS GET IT ON! Did everybody read this I hope. We can really start anytime.

VS, Do you have an address for Von Brizee? Allan
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by :USERNAME:: Anyone read Burgetts Holland book yet?

Yep. It's pretty good and reads like his other books so if you liked the first two you will like this one. Allan
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Blackhorse: I bought SL in what...1979? The rest is history.

Yep, 1979 for me too. Allan
 6. I realize you are full now butIf you need another player or an alternate, count me in. Sorry, I did not see this thread earlier. Allan
 7. I saw these little guys at Toys-R-Us today and I must admit they look pretty cool and authentic. They had an 82nd pathfinder, a 101st paratrooper, a US tank commander and an Eastern front German soldier. If I were 30 years younger I would buy them. I wonder if I could say it was for my son.....yea that might work. Allan
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by Simon Fox: Secondly, the bocage hedgerow terrain tile in CM represents the worst form of real life hedgerow which is impenetrable to tanks. In order to simulate bocage hedgerows of lesser density you need to use other terrain types ie hedge etc

Simon, I see your point but I still believe the bocage should offer more spotting difficulty than it does. Secondly, my tanks plow right through the bocage terrain. I am not talking about hedgerows, I mean full blown bocage. Granted, it slows them down, but they get through it with relative ease. I just think it should be harder to spot troops hidding in them. Allan
 9. Maybe a tweak to make it more difficult to spot units hiding in bocage....please. Allan
 10. I will give them a look. Send them to my email address also. Allan
 11. Header says it all. We have some questions regarding LOS in bocage. Allan
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Jarmo: I second this. From pictures I've seen, the undergrowth would be very thick. IMO hiding in bushes should be even more effective than hiding in woods.

Exactly! Maybe we can get BTS' thoughts on this. How about it Steve, Charles? Allan
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Buckeye: Actually, IIRC, Charles said that bocage doesn't totally block LOS if you are reasonably close to it. I don't recall how far the LOS goes, but you should be able to see through it if you are just behind it. I haven't played a scenario with bocage yet, so haven't tried this personally.

Buckeye, I agree with you. But my point is I am hiding infantry IN the bocage according to German tactics outlined in Doubler's book. However, when I do that they get spotted while hiding in the bocage from over 100m in some cases. The allies come busting through the hedgerow and immediatly spot my hidden units from 100m and nail them. I think rather than hide behind the hedgerow, troops should be able to hide IN the hedge and have it be at least similar to hiding in woods for spotting purposes. Allan
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Lorak: Allan, Are you hiding your guys in the hedgerows? or behind them? If your unit says it it is hedgerow/bocage, then your actualy in it. Easy to be spotted from both sides. However if your hiding behind it, it should be hard to sopt your units. Works the same as walls. If you unit says it is in/on a wall tile. They are actualy on the wall. not behind it. Lorak

Lorak, I am hiding them IN the bocage. It is my understanding that the hedgerow/bocage is a thick tangle of trees, roots and underbrush that would conceal a soldier very well. I am trying to set up a scenario based on some actual hedgerow accounts from Doubler's book. It seems to me you do not want to hide on one side of the bocage since it blocks LOS to the other side and you are totally exposed on the near side, thus defeating the purpose of a unit being able to cover adjacent hedgerows from a concealed position. This is why the allies usually attacked two or three adjacent hedgerows at the same time in order to minimize this overlapping effect. Allan
 15. I have been trying to design a bocage scenario for CM and have found some interesting stuff. The bocage terrain in CM slows tanks and infantry way down as they traverse it. However, it does not leave a hole when the tank passes. Also, when I hide infantry in it, they seem to be spotted way too easily. The tank not leaving a hole, I could can live with. But the spotting hiden infantry needs to be adjusted IMHO. From reading Doubler's book, it would seem very difficult to spot infantry in the hedgerows. Maybe, the next patch could address this? Allan
 16. What about the "airplane" the chickens use to escape? IIRC that is from another prison escape movie where the POWs make a glider and fly a high ranking officer/scientist out. The inside the pie machine sequence seems straight from Raiders of the Lost Ark. That movie is just pure genius. I will definitely have to get the tape when it comes out just to pick up on all of the one liners and movie references. Allan
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by WWIIRulz: Yeah sure, you took "your kids" to see it. Admit it, you went by yourself and enjoyed it immensley.

I think I did enjoy it more than my kids. I mean the chicken farm looks like a stalag complete with guard towers, wire, role call and even a "cooler" for solitary confinement. The voice actor that played the "RAF Rooster" was very good...very British and proper. Mel Gibson was not that bad as the "Yank" rooster either but there is something wrong about Mel Gibson playing a Yank. Allan
 18. Ok, I know this is off topic but I took a break from playing CM to take my kids to go see the movie "Chicken Run". I figured I owed it to them since I have been playing CM almost non-stop since I got it on Monday. The basic storyline is about a bunch of chickens that try to escape a chicken farm(stalag)in England. I was expecting to be bored to death. However to my suprise, the movie borrows heavily from the "The Great Escape" and other WWII prison camp movies. Mix in a little British humor and I was laughing all through the movie. Sometimes I was even laughing by myself since only a few patrons got some of the WWII movie scenes. This is a kids' movie that a WWII grog could love so take the little ones. Heck, offer to take the neighbor's kids if you are too embarassed to go by yourself Allan
 19. Mike, I got mine today here in Houston along with the poster. I pre-ordered a year ago. Allan
 20. Here in Houston, I got my copy and the poster today also. Now its time to get down! Thanks BTS. Allan
 21. I purchased a V5 last week and installed it on my system. I had some problems running a few titles but the main problem was that I had some very hard crashes with the V5. When it did run, the V5 made CM look amazing with 4x FSAA. I did have a few anomolies with the mouse cursor but other than that it was fine. However, the play to crash ratio was just too much and I exchanged the V5 for a Creative Annihilator 2. I have had no problems with the new card. FSAA looks a little better on the V5 but colors seem to be more vibrant on the Geforce2. CM looks great on both. Check the forum threads. I just saw a work around for some of the V5 problems. I wish I would have known this last week when I had my V5. I wonder if this problem has cost 3dfx any customers like myself? As for B-17II, I am sure it will look great with either card but I did remember reading somewhere that it will support T&L which is a feature of the GeForce based cards. Allan
 22. Damn! That may have been the trouble with my V5 last week. I really liked the V5 but I had some problems running a few titles and some very hard crash problems.I tinkered with it for 3 days without success. I returned it and got a Geforce 2, which is also a very nice card but I have not had any problems. Allan
 23.
quote:
Originally posted by Phandaal: Anyone tried the GeForce II with CM? Phandaal

Yep, I have a Geforce 2 and CM looks great. No problems at all. now If the full version will just arrive. Allan
 24.
quote:
Originally posted by Mikester: No Joy here in Muddville (Denver) either. Ordered on day one of pre-order being available well over a year ago. My card was charged on the 15th so it looks like Monday may be the target date. Allan
