  1. Thanks for clearing that up. In that case I disagree with you, not because of realistic modelling, but because I think in this engine of CM it will give the player too much control.
  2. Yep, not supposed to be there. Time for von Shrad to get out the van again...
  3. So what you are saying is that only Finnish Cissie squads have ammunition?
  4. You may not be able to imagine it, but it has already happened, and been finished. Check the link I supplied earlier - and yes, we had a lot of GM and player retention problems.
  5. Gamey updates - fought Elvis the Pelvis to a draw with the most beautifully executed combined arms attack he had ever seen. What did he learn from that? 1) Thou shalt cover the best approach into your defensive position 2) A strong main effort, while a single BA-64 pretends an attack on the rest of the map, surely confuses me. 3) If you want to play with Soviet SMG squads supported by two platoons of T34/85, you need to bring some more stamina than Luftwaffelfeldsoldaten do. 4) Taking one big flag and killing lots of Germans is enough for a draw. 5) When playing Andreas, sometimes you stand no chance when his beautifully conceived assault goes in, but at least it is nice to watch someone do something right for a change. Well, I hope he did learn all of these anyway.
  6. You are off to the pits that is London, aren't you? So stop whinging, well, actually, continue and you'll fit right in. You'll get a turn in January, and that is good enough for you.
  7. I think 400 would be stretching it, but here's a few for your enjoyment and edification: Hurl; chuck; chunder; spew; heave; tickle the tonsils; talking on the porcelain telephone; driving the porcelain bus; barcoo spew; crying ralph; ralph; calling bert on the big white phone; technicolour yawn; yack; bark at the lawn; and berley. 8. I like to think the, err, 'quality' of that CMBO translation was one of the reasons I got the job for CMBB
  9. So do you have LOS or not? Your statement is a bit contradictory.
  10. Close range being closer than 40m, it could have something to do with: a) LOS (where does the dead space on a tank/vehicle start) - with an HMG you can fire in any direction at 2m distance, with a tank you can not. absence of a crew (if close combat is modelled by the crew of an HMG at very close range)
  11. Never played ASL, so I may lack the frame of reference here. Having said that - AIUI encirclements are operational. CMBB operations are tactical. Therefore I don't quite follow the argument that in order to play 'accurately' encirclements have to be simulated. I don't actually think they can be simulated, except as a series of tactical engagements for crucial ground, which can be done in an operation.
  12. Before Moon gets any flak for faults in the translation - I did the manual translation for CMBB, and a substantial part of the command/in-game translations for it also. Moon checked them. ISTR that I actually translated all the terms in the command menu shown here, so things like 'Wanne unten', 'In Deckung gehen' and 'Rotieren' sind wahrscheinlich auf meinem Mist gewachsen . Some background - I am not a tanker, so I used something that would make sense to me, on the grounds that it would also make sense to other non-specialists reading it. I must say that I quite like the ring of 'Wanne unten', still . I agree that instead of 'Rotieren' 'Wenden' could have been used. I usually think of 'wenden' as a 180° turn though, and this is clearly not the case. I disagree that 'Schwenken' would have been a good choice 'Und dann habe ich meinen Tiger um 30° geschwenkt.' somehow does not sound right to me, while 'Und dann habe ich meinen Tiger um 30° gewendet.' sounds okay, but I also think 'Und dann habe ich meinen Tiger um 30° rotiert.' does not sound too bad either. The best would have been 'Drehen' I guess, but somehow my brain must have been clogged up that day. 'In Deckung gehen' has a military ring to it that 'Verstecken' to me simply does not have. I thought about it, but I had this mental image of a Kindergeburtstag, so I went with 'In Deckung gehen.' With hindsight, 'In Deckung bleiben' may have been an alternative. Finally, no translation is perfect, and some are worse than others. I am not a professional translator, and I noted during the translation that after more than eight years abroad my German has become a bit rusty. That is no excuse for delivering imperfect work, just an explanation. Anyone translating a text will bring their personal bias to things, and I found that when looking at my screen, I had trouble making the decisions on which words and turns of phrases to use quite often. It is one thing in a conversation or a private communication, but quite another when these words will be read by thousands of people who paid for them. Interesting process though. If there are any further suggestions on how to improve the work, I look forward to them.
  13. CMMC has pretty good ambience, and certainly beats Quick Battles. We try to simulate staff and CoC, in order to generate more realistic battles. Some favourites of mine in CMMC1 include 5 Fritz ATGs and a broken screwdriver stopping an armoured brigade in its tracks, and on the reverse, three Churchills and a one-legged private stop a Panther battalion We look forward to Ivan the AT-rifle man single-handledly stopping 1. PD outside Belyi, becoming a Soviet folk hero in the process.
  14. I just go straight to the forums A GM is a 'Game-Master' (that is D&D speak, in military terms it would be an umpire), who handles the resolution of orders given by players. I take it you never did table-top RPG?
  15. A fairer comparison (looking at weight etc.) would probably be the KV1 - I also know which tank I would rather be in...
  16. Ah, more Fritzens to crush... Go here for info: CMMC 2 website
  17. AIUI this only occurs if both sides use ski troops. In my tests and the reports I read, one side using them made no difference. Ps. If you played 'The move back' did you review it? If not, why not?
  18. Another thing is that the Tiger appeared almost a year before the Panther (August 42, near Mga, AG North). It was then fielded in AG South (actually A & B and or Don - I can't keep track) AO, and Africa. I would assume that by mid/end-43 reliability was quite high, and production went smoothly, so to then rip it all out and start something new seems a bit crazy.
  19. Could we not have a Turn-based real-time hybrid chess system in a realistic 3D environment with correct modelling of unit capabilities set in World War2 on the Eastern Front? That would be a corker!
  20. I would play more chess, but it's IGO-UGO system is a real turn-off.
  21. You could just have asked about your rig - the beta-testers have quite a variety of machines. Mine BTW is a G4/400 w/standard video card.
