1. This is because most soldiers are not actually "grognards," unlike many posters on this forum. I think there should be a "grognard" optional rule for CMBB, though, which makes all the soldiers act like grognards. A little text/input box could pop up, and you would attempt to justify your orders given the current logisitcal and geopolitical context of the game. The better your argument the lower the time delay... but make a bad argument (In the judgement of that platoon of little CMBB men.) and "Friendly Fire" will become a major part of your life. Some combats between opposing grognard units would be resolved via a special "Debate" mode. For example, grognard tank crews would compare armor quality, ammo availibility and characteristics, and the fine points of thier tactical SOP. This would sometimes result in one crew Abandoning their tank. But at other times there'd be a berserk flurry of AP and machinegun fire as the crews attempt to "demonstrate" the actual ROF of their main gun and the inferior quality of an opponent's glacis... or moral character.
 2. CMMC II development has already begun, something like 3 months ago.
 3. Look at the times of the triple post above this... Interesting.
 4. Keep spreading our secrets! What was said about military intelligence?
 5. Has anyboduy started the official thread for Mac OS release claim?
 6. You should be forced to watch McGyver episodes while massaging Rosanne Barr's sweaty feet, for the rest of your young life. (Damn I want it now) M
 7. So you mean that the historical 'guard the German troops as they board the train going up North' scenarios would be no fun? M [ February 21, 2002, 09:25 AM: Message edited by: DrAlimantado ]
 8. In regards to gaming, Linux suffers from the same problem as Mac: unless it becomes a gaming platform it will not be widely used; but because it is not widely used, gaming companies does not bother to port the games. It is a good example of good old catch-22. The only way to dodge it, is to break the logic that governs the catch-22. In other words: make games to a platfrom despite that it is not the most economically sane thing to do. But there is one big thing speaking against BTS porting CM to Linux. When they made it available to both Windows and Mac, they maximised their numbers of potential customers. But when it comes to Linux users, I would guess that any Linux user who is a gamer already has a windows partition or separate machine. But it would be nice with a Linux port. Then I would be able to use Windows even less. And that is something that I have been looking forward to for a while, but my gaming habit has prohibited me from that. M My humble guess is also that Linux users are overrepresented in the CM community, (you know ... geeky things go hand in hand )
 9. If you join a Nordic championship, you might want to adjust to the Nordic cultural traditions. You know, cultural sensitivity and all that. M
 10. being able to set a higher resolution than the desktop resolution would be nice too.
 11. *Bump* Oh, and I'm done with my 5 scenarios. Went better than expected. But those Finns ... well, they are Finns and have a tendency to win. Mattias

This is the address I have for him: patrik@kramgo.com Is anyone using a different one? Treeburst155 out.

It is the one that I have been using all along. I sent him an e-mail some days ago, it did not bounce like your did, but I did not get a reply either. It is strange as he always were really fast with his replies. M
 13. Dragoon19 is live and well, I got a file from him today. But as he is Danish, he is probably drunk on pilsner by now, try sending him an e-mail tomorrow. As for Patrik ... I have no clue. He has been silent for a while. M
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Jarmo: Dragoon, are you ready for a fight soon? You did get the opening file I sent weeks ago?

I am playing against him at the moment, but he went for a trip to Poland for some odd and obscure reason. He'll be back sooner or later. In the meantime you can train on the Finnish tactic that you used in your game against me. What was it called? 'Get annihilated and surrender'? Anyway, I am using it against Dragoon, and I am getting painful results now. And he seems to appreciate it M [ 12-14-2001: Message edited by: DrAlimantado ]

 15. Tuomas: I just sent you an e-mail to tnummela@cc.hut.fi .... and it was returned. Fix or somefink Jarmo: I also sent you an e-mail, if you want the setup directly just give me an e-mail and you will recieve it. Mattias
 16. I read an article about CS on Linux via Wine, and my understanding was that the resource loss was minimal. The graphic drivers might not be as good, but that is an other issue. CM on Linux ... like the idea, then I could ditch Windows permanently. M
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Geier: Blah blah blah blah blah

If my bad memory serves me right, you could not even beat my poor ass in the last game we played. And that is something than any honourable human should be able to do. But then you are just in the same pool of defects as Germanboy and Chupacabra. And if you want some samples, I can send you some killer-rabies-reindeer from Umeå, along with the damned snow we got yesterday. Oh ... Treeburst: I am defenitely Swedish, even though I got a bad genetic heritage and one Checkoslovakian family name which I got from my Austrian mother. I am as Swedish as we get up here. 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Ghost Dog: I´m Swedish as well, says so in my passport, right next to Idiot.

I have 'retard' written next to my nationality in my passport, is that better or worse than 'idiot? Or do I just have the PC version of the passport? M
 19. Treeburst155: Yep, I forgot to add that I am Swedish. At least that is what my passport says. Mattias
 20. Ho hum ... I just managed to get CM running perfectly on my W2k/GeoForce2 setup, so I guess that I can show everybody how much I suck in killing colored pixels I'm in .... Mattias
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: German women were never in industry to the same degree as they were in the US, did not agree with the Nazi ideology. Women had to stay at home or work in the fields.

Did the Nazis make any difference between proper German women and those women from the annexed countries, i.e. Austria and Checkoslovakia? The reason I am asking is that, as I have probably told you, my Austrian grandmother was a Luftwaffe airmechanic on the eastern front. What I always took for granted is that she was drafted very late in the war when there was no other choice than to use women. But to my surprise she told my family right before she passed away, that she had been on the eastern front for almost 3 years. That means that she had been in service since sometime in 1942. In addition to this there seemed to have been a lot of female airmechanics, in her unit at least, when she briefly talked about her experiences she mentioned several other women who she had worked with. My guess is that she worked on forward airbases close to the front, as she was mainly an JU-87 mechanic, a plane not known for its enourmous actionradius. If this guess is correct, it just makes the whole thing more puzzling. I would not have guessed on the precense of female airmechanics in the Luftwaffe, that early during the war, that close to the front. M
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Stacheldraht: For those who believe that an appeal to logic or reason somehow finalizes or "wins" an argument, please note that in many past and present discourse communities, appeals to logic can be viewed as misguided, improper, weak, deceptive, etc. More important for many groups in many circumstances are appeals to authority, empiricial evidence, emotion, intuition, popular opinion (or prejudice), tradition, (divine) inspiration, etc. Not that some of these necessarily apply well here Nevertheless, these sorts of appeals often carry far more weight than reason in a variety of circumstances.

I have tried to stay away from this thread so that I could enjoy the flames from a distance. I felt that there was nothing that I could add to Slapdragon's and Germanboy's evil, oppresing, and arrogant posts. But now when the main topic of the thread ought to be dead and beaten, I might as well jump in because you touch a subject where I do have something to say. Not that I am a fan of the logical positivists (an analretentive bunch of lads), but I find your attitude towards the relevance of logic in discussions to be a bit puzzling. That some people think that appeal to logic and reason is misguided, improper, etc, is not surprising at all. People think a lot, to put it sarcastically. But the important question is: do they have good reasons to disqualify reason and logic from discussions? I am not picking a fight here, I am just a bit puzzled and interested in if you could elaborate a bit. And the fact that in some discourse communities tradition, intuition, authority, etc, carries heavier wheight than logic and reason do.. does not say anything else than just that. The status of logic and reason is not directly dependent on that other people use different rules for argument. Just in the same way that the wetness of water is not dependent on that some people think that you do not get wet if you stand naked in the rain singing John Lennon songs. Oh and to those who think that i degrade this post by taking upp non-topic stuff. This thread is so low and childish, that if I posted a picture of myself with a buttplug dressed up as Baby Spice, I would drasticly improve the quality of the discussion of the main topic. Mattias
 23. I have not seen any list on the board. But I vaugely remeber a figure of above 100 vehicles (with all the variants) mentioned in one of the on-line reviews. But then I am getting more and more senile as I am getting closer to 30, so I could be wrong. I saw a pic of Kv-2 in one of the reviews, and that is enough for me. I am just hoping that they are modelling the rear-facing turret mg too.
 24.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: What on earth are you rambling about?

Heh, dunno. I am afraid that someone drank too much Coolaid this morning. It is not entirely clear why anyone should apologize to Tero. Because the obvious points he has made in these two threads? Hmmm .... no. First Tero was advocating national modifiers, but it turned out that he did not really want national modifiers, it was something slightly different. But that "something" became irrelevant as it could not be solved unless we get rid of absolute spotting, (the connection there was neither fully explained). So instead we now have a problem with CC in CMBO. But Tero has not been terrifyingly explicit in regards to what the problem actually is, and how it ought to be remedied. (This is not to say that everyone else has been saintly, not at all) But in a twisted way, I am enjoying reading this thread. Mattias
