My guess is that, in addition to what Steve mentioned, Fionn is attempting to avoid getting into pointless arguments with people.
Last week I had a good (if unusual) online chat with Fionn at the Annex. Fionn is a really cool guy (and I finally learned how old he is!) and keeping himself busy , I hope.
The chats certainly give a different view of board regulars (when not talking about war stuff). Kinda fun seeing the same slackers every day.
I've been reading Usenet for eight years, and it can be pretty tough to avoid getting into online arguments. Gotta keep your asbestos undies dry...

Buildings are modeled abstractly in CM.
I'm just guessing here, but the vibes I get from S&C are that building enhancement will be THE biggest new feature added to CM2. Or at least it will be what is looked at first of all the possible features to add/upgrade.

Krinkelt and Rocherath? Aren't those locations mentioned in Mcdonald's "Company Commander"? I just bought the book a week ago (great book!) and seem to remember something about his company assaulting those towns.
I'd check my copy but the book is now packed away.

Stopping off in War-historical last August is how I found out about CM (thanks, Fionn...)
And I meant the the women in Ft. Collins are gorgeous. Hundreds upon hundreds of beautiful 20 somethings all vying to see who could wear the shortest skirt, tightest shorts, and skimpiest top.
Louisiana, not so much on the beauty part, but the ACW memorial in Vicksburg, MS (about 2 hours away) is really neat.

Squint all you want because I think the game is coming by US Post Office for us Americans.
If you squint, maybe the little white Post Office vehicle will look like a heaenly chariot, or something.

Flattery works every time. A nicer thing you couldn't have said. I like you. Welcome aboard.
I just bought 6 war books at B&N and fit his description to a 'T'.

Oooooohhhhhhh!!!!
Drool...
CMMC material. This sight has just the publications I was looking for. I have thw www.army.mil sight bookmarked and I never got around to looking at it. Boy was I stupid.
In a really quick search I found seven aprox. 600 page books that would be of absolutely perfect use.

I don't know what is worse, the pain of going through all the messages in my (aborted) attempt to create a FAQ, or reading the same questions over and over again. And over again.
CM2 is Eastern Front. "Compatibility" won't really be an issue, but retro-fitting new game improvements back onto CM1 would be cool. ETA is probably at least a year. There will be ne gameplay features (increased building detail will be looked in to, for instance) and a bewildering array of unit types, vehicles, and weapons will take a good chunk of time.
Yes, an expansion pack will likely have new vehicles and scenarios/operations.

I live an hour away from the Little Bighorn Battlefield. What's strange when I go is that aside from the monuments, the terrain looks no different than the rest of Eastern Montana/Northern Wyoming.
Because Montana is still mostly wilderness, the battlefield looks pretty much exactly like it did back then.

nijis, A weasly CO could just pass the buck and blame the inability to get you the Shermans on the Supply Officer.
"Gee, Major, I'd really love to get you those Shermans, but the Supply Officer is so incompetent he couldn't find his ass with both hands."
Not that I would ever do such a thing...

I saw a movie a few months ago called "Go For Broke" about the 442nd. It was made in the early Fifties and I was amazed at its anti-racist tone.
I would ahve expected this kind of movie in the sixties, but not in the Fifties before the Civil Rights movement began in earnest.
The movie actually wasn'y half bad, really.

Well, considering that CM isn't real time, you won't have a heck of a lot of information transfer during the game except during turn exchanges. Perhaps a little taunting (hopefully Peng-worthy taunting), but that is about it.
I see no reason why your connection wouldn't be suitable for TCP/IP.

Something similar came up before. Our mascot, Capt Manieri mentioned he would like to have his copy signed. A whole bunch of us chimed in and said that we would rather have a signed copy than a poster.
Please, Please, Please, Please, can I have my copy signed instead of a poster.
/me gives sad puppy dog eyes look to Steve.

After seeing posts about people losing screen names I was going to post something but I'll post it here in reply to Steve's message.
When the board went down at the end of January, a bunch of us had to re-register. Luckily I got my old screen name, but lost my cherished member status and a count of my 340 odd posts.
I see that it has happened to some other poor souls over the weekend.
The way to avoid this: DON'T POST WHILE THE SYSTEM IS DOWN!

Swizzo piccies Madmatt! The weapon/equipment textures are really good looking. I like the rear view picture with the great wood textures in the background.
Many months ago (9 or so) Steve mentioned they were having a tough time finding small unit info (battalion level and lower) on Gebirgsjaeger units. I'm curious if BTS found good info and, if so, where.

Re: firing the MG42 on the move.
I've seen pictures and explanations of how the MG42 was fired on the move. From a standing/hunched position the gunner would use the shoulders of an ammo carrier as a bipod. They could move forward at up to a slow jog if necessary and stop to quickly bring fire on to the enemy.
I can't imagine that it would be very pleasant to be the human bipod, though.
