  1. Read 'em and weep: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A13449-2000Oct15.html
  2. Hehe...thought of this board when I came across the wife's October issue of "Family Life," where the advice column lady on page 29 or 30 tells a reader not to let her kids play with the neighbors' kids because the parents collect such stuff and display it prominently. Don't have a weblink for the article, unfortunatelky, but isn't this just more p.c. b.s.?? What % are Jews here anyway!
  3. Wow, reads like a computer wargame AAR! http://www.armytimes.com/stories/arm_story_59364.html
  4. Are we going back to the "good old days" when a "company" and its "captain" were taken literaly? Hell, I never did believe in national armies anyway! http://www.intellectualcapital.com/issues/issue383/item9694.asp
  5. http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2571404,00.html?chkpt=zdhpnews01 I say we trash these things and get on with the future of computing. Let's face it: Apple's as evil as MS -- they're just even more incompetent! It's like the Nazis and the Soviets, y'know? I look forward to PC-ONLY CM releases in the very near future. (It'll happen...see how BTS took out the swastikas, when at first it seemed that they were so hard-core they'd stick with 'em?)
  6. Oh, BTW, forgot my commentary...isn't that just disgusting, how all the damned p.c. people have taken over. Now how come lesbo singer k.d. lang didn't get flamed for using a Nazi (not Buddhist or what have you) swastika on one of her rock groupie shirts?
  7. Okay, so I know I'd voluntarily left...but I just thought of y'all when I came across this here, and thought everyone would find it amusing. http://www.nypost.com/news/25975.htm
  8. You know, what gives with BTS' double standards here?? I post something on Army Time's derision of the My Lai Massacre, and it's "way, way, way, way off-topic" and immediately locked up. "Leshawn Campbell" comes acting like a stereotypical coon character (he dons e-balckface, IOW) and BTS sees fit to tolerate all that as being "in good fun." Now I talk about Saving Puerto Rico as being a stoopid movie from a tactical POV and it's off topic and inflammatory. Calling people Japs, as has been done, and the vague anti-China Yellow Peril sentiment wafting around, has been okay. Using "kraut" in my post is "inflammatory?" Talking about Reagan, Elvis, and Vietnam is on-topic and has generated one of this board's longer threads, as is bickering flame wars between board personalities and regulars, but what little I've posted is immediately "O/T" and verboten. Well, at least my praising Hitler hasn't been decried as being "infalmmatory." Sure it's their board, but don't go on and on about freedom of speech and how open to discussion you are if every time something the least bit controversial with which you don't agree gets posted is blasted! Kinda like how you fault CC for claiming to be a serious wargame; likewise, I fault you for your pseudo-tolerance and faux open-mindedness. Gimme my game and good bye. Note: no hard feelings -- it takes all types. I wish y'all critical & commercial success, but it's obvious "we" can't have anything more than a strictly "professional" relationship.
  9. Doug, we're talking bells & wistles in wargames, not the volume of output for the genre! For example, I was all set to get Talonsoft's "Battle of Britain" for $10 at a local Software, Etc. -- but then I read the reviews on how "it's a typical Gary Grigsby" affair (gamespot, IIRC), and that killed it for me. I can't get to see the gaming brillance of Pac War or any of that other GG stuff on my SSI "Wargame Classics Collections" CD 'cause it's so damned obscure! If I speak English, then talk to me in English, man! And now to hear that he's not improved his interface design philosophy in all this time -- aw, fudgedabowdit!
  10. Herr Major, all seriousness aside, I have to wonder what it was that Hitler did that was so bad. I mean, even the Jews practiced genocide, if we are to believe the Holy Scriptures (I mean, even the Germans had "Gott mit uns!"), which form the basis of their/our religion/identity. Anyway, no one in Germany today is arguing whether Charlemangne slaughtered seven hundred or seven thousand Saxons farmers for the Holy Roman Empire. I mean, if it weren't for genocide, where would the U.S. be today? No, really, sometimes I suppose one must take the long view. Too bad for the natives, but...hey, we've got the internet and stuff nowadays! Stuff we'd not likely to have had under a less advanced ciilization, etc. "War is the father of all things." Capt'n Manny, I agree; in fact, the Japs (sorry, Wesy) thought it was wierd for their Master Race partner to persecute fellow white Jews, who it seemed would have made better allies than enemies, given their mythic clutch on the world economy, whatever! The strategic outlook is perhaps best exemplified by a comparison of Western chess with Chinese Wei Chi-derived Japanese Go: the object is to surround one's enemies, rather than annihilate them...etc.
  11. Hey, why is this movie s'posed to be so realistic?? If the SPR characters were CM sprites, they'd never have made it off the beach! Even with a Close Combat-esque pseudo-understanding of infantry tactics, I was able to discern a whole mess of bad old Hollywood military misinformation: 1) how did Tom Hanks' lil' detachment ever get the goods on the German MG nest? We had fat Sarge Horvath, Jewish Fish, and bozo Caparzo (is this "Goonies 2?") firing single shot rifles for covering fire, while sniper Ross Perot outruns the Kraut MG!! WTF?!?! 2) BS male bonding brotherhood of wargaming dialogue BEHIND ENEMY LINES ACROSS AN OPEN FIELD IN BROAD DAYLIGHT! Was retired USMC Capt. Dale Dye of "Platoon" fame really a "military adviser" to this flic??? 3) How the hell did the half sqaud of like seven men successfully charge yet another MG nest, across an open field??? Damn, talk about artistic license! 4) Why in Namen des Fuehrers did 'em Krauts go into town armor first, and continue to lead with their tanks after getting a Tiger put outta commish??? 5) How was Ross Perot able to fire off so many shots from his bell-tower perch with a bolt-action rifle?? 6) How come ain't nobody pissed in they pants?! And why the hell can't the Germans shoot sh!t, even when the Joes are right in front of 'em! Did anyone else feel queasy about Spiel-(you know what that means in Yiddish, right?)-berg claiming, upon receipt of the Navy's or DoD's highest civilian honor, "that [he feels] that [he's] served [his] country in [his] own way?" Bleh. =P Seriously, I was disappointed with this one. I thought th melodrama in "Cross of Iron" more realistic, believe it or not. And what's with that guy in "Patton" doing a right face with his lead foot (i.e., right) "coming in" instead of his left, trailing fot, being "brought in"?!?! You know, in that sce where Bloody Guts addressed his assembled peons for a non-apology for bitch-slapping a soldier. That guy who does a right face in the lower right-hand corner of that scene (letterboxed/anamorphic) does it wrong! Or was that how they used to do it, like how Army phonetic alphabetty has changed??????
  12. Do you guys really dislike Hitler?? I mean, sure he lost the war, but he's not such a bad guy...no, I mean it! I mean, like no worse than most of the other dictators.... Anyway, I thought wargamers liked him! What ever happened to those storied gaming conventions from the '70s where somebody would inevitably show up looking like Hitler or some SS fellow? Hitler was a genius. He just had like five different countries stacked against him. Well, stress gets to even the best of us after a while. Like I'm going nuts waiting for CM!!! What did I just say???? I believe it, but I can't believe I've actually admitted it!
  13. Hear! Hear! I agree with you ein hundert Prozent! Goddammit, CM 2 would be sooooo ausgezeichnet if it came with support for 3D cards and such! And such means, oh, voice-activation, 3D glasses support (the electronic "LCD" type), 5.1 DD audio, etc. BTS, I'd pay $100 for such a game AND on preorder!! But we're talking Mac folks here.... ;> It's funny, isn't it, that the games geared towards kids require $$$ in hardware, whereas those for older folks, who have more $$$, require less! If youth is wasted on the young, then money's wasted on the old!
  14. Oh well, so I'm breaking my campaign promise...but it's more interesting than Elvis Presley or Leshawn Campbell! Armytimes this week has as its lead article one on the historic activation of the regular army's space warriors! Maybe BTS should consider "star wars?"
