Steve I'll post a little AAR I had one one very cool game I had - where I (playing as US) totally mauled the AI, by first killing all his armour , and them killing 80% of the German forces By ambushing his Tiger and Stug with 2 squads of zooks (that rushed up to the treeline from the left side wall) I was able to dominate when the hellcats arrived -pbem opponents I miught try this on you! ------------------ CCJ aka BLITZ_Force My Homepage - www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Beach/4448

  5. BTS, Fion etc Re the ZOoks behind the wall - that has been cleared up.   6. Hey Steve how would I conserve ammo, once the main Firefight has started? Order unit to hide? Heheh I played a hotsaet game today by myself to try some stupid things I oredered the tiger onto the road just behind the wall, and order some us squads to the tank, to see if they would throw grenades, nope they didn't but the tiger, scooted off on his own accord and some smoke was placed by tiger? or Us infantry? Then I ordered the tiger to reverse over the Us infantry - the game crashed halfway through the turn crunching! Thanks for the reply STeve I found a annoying glitch - I'm not usre if anyone else gets this, but when I press escape and exit back to my desktop, and then re-enter CM there is a small border of corrupted GFX at the far left and top of the screen about 1/3 of a cm on my cruddy 15 inch monitor. I have to save my game, quit and reload Cm to get rid of it. I wonder if anyone else is getting this - I use a Leadtek Winfast s320 II Tnt2 card with 16 megs (probably replacing it with a Geforce 256 soon ) Final note - in the above game, I lost all my SHermans to the damn 88s I had 2 Sheramns try to exchange fire with 88, and lost out big time Without any tank support, the US infantry fought on, and did pretty well for a while taking two victory locatiuon, but ammo ran low and the AI commited some fresh squads and I had to call a cease fire! Can't fight without ammo Major Axis Victory - doh! I had 23 points and he had 63. The AI had some very good defensive deployments, he had one 88 sitting in the far left corner from the US perspective.   11. Hi The more I play - the more addictive it gets! I always get the urge to try one more time Something I never had with West Front and Close Combat 3 (even with all the eye candy) AFter a few days of playing - you can definitely sense the depth of the game engine, which would increas with full version Those damn 88's are deadly! To both tanks and infantry - in my current game, no amount of mortar and Mg fire could stop their carnage - I had to sneak a bazooka team up and take it out from 110 m (poor bastards died straight after at the hands of an angry Geraman infantry squad In this same game - I poured my infantry reinforcements to thr ight flank of the town, and the computer noticed this, and started commiting his reserves to that side, very smart I'm happy with Cm in the beat demo, apart from the yucky green and dark gamma ; and the features that I want which are not in the game - (hopefully "YET"). Such as click/drag of units for the unit setup phase, with a facing arrow - which you can click and rotate, click and drag box around units to give group orders (like oredering a platoon to a location) and assign to hot key (so you can jump from group to group, while still using your current zoom/angle/view and the grouped units having a highlight base graphic). English (with accenT) version of the non-english speech and also your troops radioing you if they suspect/spot an enemey unit. SOme weird things - I had a massive firefight in the US attack scenario, and a infantry sound spot graphic popped up - which seemed unrealistic gven that this "spot" was 100 m behind the main fighting zone, and the amount of gunfire/noise and distractions my squads were receiving were receiving. Also I think the tracers should be made smaller and shorter, they look too large and prominent. Moon I mean we can send others saved turns - so others can watch them...not a whole game movie Ok SOmething I really really want in CM The demo games are quite small, but still have a bit of micro-managemnt which is fine, but with larger scenarios it will be a down right pain I want an ability to click and draw a box around a platoon etc and assign them to a hotket say the function keys, so I can jump from group to group via hotkeys without changing my current zoom, angle and view type. Whilst allowing me to order all units in the group to move togther to a location, or a group order. the tactical AI can then plot the best way for each unit to reach there, which it does now anyway. This will be a big help in larger maps, and allows you to play more like a real commnader, instead of having to micro-manage every unit; which I find extremely tedious, but you can still micromanage when you want and need to. This feature will also move the game further away from I Go U Go games, where this will be impossible or very difficult to do Its something from Close Combat 3 that I like. BTS please add this feature in - after all you want to make the game as easy as it can be to play, don't you?   14. Moon I agree with your point - I have no qualms against this. What I have a beef against is - my zooka teams getting wasted when they are hiding behind a wall (since the start of the game) from 500 m away by a tiger and some German squads - cmon! Hi I agree somewhat with some of your statements - the first 15 mins of playing the game, I felt really confused and isolated, not knowing what the hell was going on, and what the status of each unit is - but when I think about , this is how real war is! If you zoom out and look at the whole picture , you see the battle from a higher point in the command chain, zoom in and you get the need info from the movie, you have to watch each area at a time I feel. You learn about your units from the movies as they play and so that saves you clicking on all of them to find their status - I hope you understand what I'm getting at But in the end - everybody has different thought processes and like different types of things. My gripe is that the Graphics are way to dark - gamma wise, need brightening up - may look OK on a MAc, but Pc graphics look different, especially D3D, which looks horribly compared to Open GL. teh WInter graphics look really nice, but I find the green distasteful. BTS A bug I've noticed when I click on a unit in view no. 3 and select move and point the cursor at some area in a building , the move vector/graphic doesn't point at the cursor, instead it points some 100 metres away in the open But if you shift the cursor a bit here or there, sometimes it corrects itself. Also I find infantry units hiding get spotted way to easily. For example I'm playing the Last Defence scenario as the US, and I had 2 bazooka teams hiding behind wall , which means they would not be spotted from 200m away and get MG'ed to death. I had another bazooka team crawling through some scattered trees getting spotted by his main attacking force from 500m away - which I think is not realistic.   19. BTS Is there a way to close the interface when watching movies? I would like this, so I can enjoy the full view of the battle field. Maybe you can code a hot key for this - since I want reocrd my own little movies on my vcr BTW does anyone have saved turns/movies that I can watch - they are small about 14 k so a whole game can comforatble fit under a meg.   20. also you can improve the sound and immersion a lot if you hva e a SOund Blaster live/Value by using the auto EAX setup aplet in the control panel and select the Combat Mission executable! :0 You get a nice 3d soundstage with nice ambient fx!!   21. Ok I have a P3 500 overclocked to 600 mhtz, and a Leadtek tnt2 card o/c to 160 mhtz. And I must say Cm is no sweat for my system to crunch - the scenarios in the demo take 3-6 sec for AI crunching and the framerate is smooth enough that I don't notice What sort of crunching times are other people getting? I can't measure fps with my card so I don't know - must be getting at least 60 fps by the llok of it. Also I big bug I noticed playing the Last Defence scenario with FOW, the SHerman tanks are invisible to me! But my 88 still knocked it out and a plume of smoke appeared from nowhere BTS I hope you haved noticed this I must say the game is diffferent everytime I play it - I saved a game and generted some different turns using the same orders, and everything happened in a different sequence, at a different location!   23. Make sure your caps lock key is not on! Funny things happen! Ok one suggestion - in the setup screen at the start of the game - I would love to be able to click and drag a unit to move it. Instead of having to click it press move and then click again. This is more logical for a windows user, I dunno about mac users Also by having the cursor keys for fast movement, you can click a unit and move the screen quickly to where you want to move it somewhere that is currently outside your view. Currently you need to move the mouse to the edge - which is slow and the screen will rotate, and you can't obviously click on the screen buttons, because the order is cancelled. Some thoughts - some one said it isn't like watching a war movie - I disagree - if you zoom right in, the game gets a war movie feel I really like how there is a zoomed out detached feel, and then you can zoom right in get all the juicey detail. Also that FOW feel - where you don't always feel like your 100% in control of the game. I found the AI did some weird thing in that scenario where the Axis is attacking. I had lost all my tanks, and only had a handful of infantry units in the victory locations and managed a minor Axis victory - becuase the AI wouldn't move its 2 remaining Hellcats to support its infantry assaults! Weird - bug?? One funy moment - late in that game a Us infnatry squad of 9 soldiers charged my Mg squad and got totally wasted in 10 seconds lOL ------------------ CCJ aka BLITZ_Force My Homepage - www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Beach/4448
  24. I find using the mouse to move really awkward! I much prefer using the keyboard for fast movement and the mouse for rotation and fine adjustment with the buttons. That is how one moves with FPS shootem games.
