  1. Great post. I agree with KD's walk around, and the oh so important job of checking LOS's of units when you get them in place. Also for defense for example with a stug. These AFV's are deadly when used in ambushes. So Learn how to get your armor Hull-Down. Takes some practice to learn hill slopes ect.. but well worth it in the end. Also a great defensive tool that works well on attack also.

  2. Question: I was under the impression that the AI would stop firing if it saw friendly units at the target area. For example: A squad is firing at a enemy squad in a house. If the squad sees a friendly squad enter the house at the target area it would stop firing. But if the friendly squad entered from behind the house (out of LOS) then the suppressing squad would continue to fire.

That was my take on things.. Am I wrong?

  3. Yes I've done a search...Guachi knows this too. smile.gif

    My question is this:

When you split a squad does total firepower remain the same or is there a penalty?

    example) a 100FP becomes a 50/50 =100 or a 40/60 =100. something like that.

OR does it lose some FP and become something like 40/40 =80% or 50/30=80% something like that?

    Just wondering....thanks

  4. Trolling: like the fishing term. You throw bait out and run it around in hope that something bites. On the net this refers to someone throwing out bait "comments" that try to get people upset and make them (bite)respond. So they get called Trolls. (also because they are most likely big ,green, ugly creatures with no life that exsist with the sole purpose of making other people as miserable as they are).

  5. I think (while a neet idea) this would get crazy during large battles. If your really worried about losing or forgetting a unit you can also just step through each unit until you get back where you started. I this is most likely common knowlege... I just divide the map into sections or battle groups and give all orders for a given "section" before moving to the next.

  6. well.. I can't remember where i came across this info..Just thought I'd throw it out there.

The US army found that it was against human nature to kill. In fact they found that a very low precentage of their soldiers were firing at the enemy to do so. When examining fallen soldiers guns after gettysburg they found about 20,000 that had never been fired. of those a lot of them had 3 and 4 loads in them. the soldiers were loading their weapons ( to keep face i assume) but weren't firing them. This goes back even to sword and spear battles, most deaths were caused by back wounds. They figure that a man is more likely to knife someone when they can't see his face. In WWI the precentage was harder to judge due to the warfare involved. After WWII it looked like 10-20% actually fired to kill the enemy. Thats when the army started new training, using life size targets, human shilloetts, ect...By the time VNam rolled around they increased that % to about 40-50% if i recall correctly.

Thats about as much as i remember on it. I'll try to find the article again. It was very interesting reading.

  7. Jeff. nothing personal but that doesn't make sense.Yes you do learn by losing to those better than you are. But not by being humiliated.

I play chess and have a ranking. So I should get upset when a grandmaster won't play me? the whole point is to play others close to you, so you have fun, and get better. your rank will increase with playing time.

  8. Foo Fighters.. "craft" that allied pilots said followed them on raids over germany. Often described as balls of light.

lots of stories as to what they were. A psyics explination is that they were a reflection of the spotting craft that is reflected below them due to an upper atmosphere inversion layer. hence the apperance of the plane being followed, flown with. As for characteritics when shot at. Jerky movement could have been likewise caused by the jerking of the spotting planes when flying. More so when the reflection my have been from another aircraft flying in formation on the spoting one.

(this is of course assuming they were not real craft.)

Another story has it that they may have been projections that were shown in the air also.

I'm not expecting cool points, just thought I would throw out what I have heard.

My father was in the SAC and i'm not even going to go into some of the stories he has.

  9. It seems you are addicted... May I suggest a 12 step program to help you out.

    12. realize that you have a problem.

    11. repeat this mantra "I will not check the forum today"

    10. think about playing CM instead of checking the forum.

    9. check the forum anyway

    8. get mad and say "I will play something else"

    7. realize that nothing is as good as CM

    6. start reading books on WWII tactics

    5. think about using them in the CMMC

    4. wonder if your missing any CMMC updates

    3. check mail (over and over) for any news period...

    2. Play CM (just once) to try out new tactics

    1. Start shaking... sign on to the Forum as quick as possible and feel a great pride that these 12 steps kept you away for a whole 15 min.

Damn you BTS and your hellspawn that is CM!! smile.gif
