Chicago CMers: 28 Oct 7pm Meeting!
RobVarak replied to hellfish's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Yeah Berli, that ought to be distinctive enough. I'd better start searching my closets for something distinctive of my own... -
Hmm.. Chicago area CM meeting?

Who has the smallest member number?
RobVarak replied to Jarmo's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Ooops, never mind. Wrong topic.. -
It's modeled and effective. I actually asked a question about this way back in the pre-beta demo days. Do a search and it should turn up. ------------------ Rob Varak Editor Site on Sound: The Web's Premier Site For Musical Discussion www.siteonsound.com CM Recommended Reading List Moderator www.siteonsound.com/CMReadingList.htm

OT?--Forum Participant Awards
RobVarak replied to Doug Beman's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
There are so many worthy recipients. But my first impulse is to single out Bullethead. His contributions, particularly those based on his artillery expertise, are always useful, well written and utterly without rancor. ------------------ Rob Varak Editor Site on Sound: The Web's Premier Site For Musical Discussion www.siteonsound.com CM Recommended Reading List Moderator www.siteonsound.com/CMReadingList.htm -

The Singularly MOST Frustrating Thing About CM!
RobVarak replied to Talenn's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I find that as long as the troops are Regular or above, hide and ambush works just fine. ------------------ Rob Varak Editor Site on Sound: The Web's Premier Site For Musical Discussion www.siteonsound.com CM Recommended Reading List Moderator www.siteonsound.com/CMReadingList.htm -
If you're looking for the most recommended books from the CM forum, come check out the CM Reading List. It's the first place to stop if you want to make sure that your family doesn't get you 3 more copies of the latest Stephen Ambrose book! As always, I'm open to more suggestions. I'd also always appreciate your business if you'd click through to Barnes & Noble from the site. But more importantly get yourself the creme de la creme of WWII literature. ------------------ Rob Varak Editor Site on Sound: The Web's Premier Site For Musical Discussion www.siteonsound.com CM Recommended Reading List Moderator www.siteonsound.com/CMReadingList.htm

I've added several entries, including some particularly interesting tomes on weapons and tactics. I'm going to have to pick up several of them for myself. C'mon by and check them out. As always, your recommendations are welcome. And remember that link to B&N.com on the top of the page...if you see something you like, buy it! It helps out my site and makes my wife real happy. ------------------ Rob Varak Editor Site on Sound: The Web's Premier Site For Musical Discussion www.siteonsound.com CM Recommended Reading List Moderator www.siteonsound.com/CMReadingList.htm [This message has been edited by RobVarak (edited 09-27-2000).]

What are considered legal recon techniques?
RobVarak replied to Rebane's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
If you run a search on recon by fire you'll find a discussion from way back started by a question I asked. After reading Doubler's book I asked if BTS was going to model recon by fire. Steve's response (in a nutshell) is that it is modeled in the sense that even hiding or ambushing troops (particularly lower quality troops) will often reveal themselves when fired upon. This isn't as detailed as seeing sparks, but I have found it an effective way to draw fire from infantry. ------------------ Rob Varak Editor Site on Sound: The Web's Premier Site For Musical Discussion www.siteonsound.com CM Recommended Reading List Moderator www.siteonsound.com/CMReadingList.htm [This message has been edited by RobVarak (edited 09-23-2000).] -
May I humbly point you to the CM Reading List that I maintain. These are all books that have been recommended at least a few times by people on the forum, and they're organized by topic. As always, feel free to submit your own suggestions. ------------------ Rob Varak Editor Site on Sound: The Web's Premier Site For Musical Discussion www.siteonsound.com CM Recommended Reading List Moderator www.siteonsound.com/CMReadingList.htm

Come on by and check out the new additions. And as always feel free to email me with your suggestions. PS If y'all will indulge me in a personal editorial moment: I can't believe that with the game actually released people have time to waste engaging in the kind of BS that's been going on here. Shut up and go play a QB or a PBEM! It's more constructive. ------------------ Rob Varak Editor Site on Sound: The Web's Premier Site For Musical Discussion www.siteonsound.com CM Recommended Reading List Moderator www.siteonsound.com/CMReadingList.htm [This message has been edited by RobVarak (edited 08-31-2000).]

His journalism is good, but his pro-German bias is so silly that it almost undermines the book, IMHO. ------------------ Rob Varak Editor Site on Sound: The Web's Premier Site For Musical Discussion www.siteonsound.com CM Recommended Reading List Moderator www.siteonsound.com/CMReadingList.htm
