  1. So, it turns out I made a patch 2 for my soundmod and then just completely forgot to upload it hehe.

So now you get double :)

Patch 2 updates the mod with new cannon sounds and flamethrower sounds.

Patch 3 updates the mod with new small arms sounds from Jorge MC's newest mod.

I'll be making a video showcasing the new sounds (well, two videos actually) as soon as I've edited and uploaded the video showcasing JorgeMC's mod.

  2. Heh, yeah their promotional live-action trailers come off as super-patriotic sometimes.

The game's pretty good tho, now that patch 1.43 is out.

Just don't expect CM levels of realism.

I play mainly simulator battles, but I've been forced to grind out arcade battles just to get money and unlocking the different upgrades.

  3. Well, just for fun, these questions are seriously supposed to lead one to conclude that the Sovs were preparing to launch a preemptive attack on Germany??

    Well... no.

Like I said (repeatedly, I think), Stalin wouldn't launch a preemtive attack on germany. If anything, he was simply waiting for germany to either exhaust their resources taking over europe, or to start losing the war against france/britain.

As someone else pointed out, Stalin wasn't the type to start a fair fight.

As has been repeated over and over and over, the Soviets always envisioned a very "offensive" defense which involved large-scale counter-attacks. That by no means proves (or disproves) that they were planning a preemptive attack.

Regarding the tanks, I suspect that they developed the best tanks that they could--if they were only trying to outclass the Germans, they could have stopped far short of the T34...

    Far short of the T-34?

So... the BT-7 was outclassing the Germans then?

Because there wasn't all that much between what they had and the T-34 when it comes to tank models.

But the point here is that Stalin was gearing up for a fight. And an offensive one at that.

EDIT: Oh and just to be clear here, I am in no way condoning any of Hitlers actions. If I could, I would shoot them both like the rabid dogs they were, but I'm simply discussing the question of whether or not Stalin was gearing up to attack germany or not.

One doesn't have to be a nazi apologist to do that. That's like saying you have to hate all muslims if you don't like ISIS.

  4. I'm going to answer these individually.

First off, the number of T-34s and KV-1s was less than 500 of each dring Barbarossa. The vast majority of Soviet tanks in -41 was utterly obsolete T-26s. There was also a large number of BT-series tanks and to a lesser extent, T-28s.

Like I said in my post above, he was gearing up to attack. It's not like he was supposed to attack in july 1941...

Besides, having almost 1000 T-34's and KV-1's is no small thing when the germans had Pz IV's with short 75's and Pz III's with 37's and short 50's (not to mention all the Pz II's and Pz 35/38's and captured french tanks).

If the russians had invaded, they'd still have almost 1000 tanks that were better than anything the germans had, and that's 1/5th of all the german tanks available at that time. So for every T-34 or KV-1 (which were nearly invincible to german tanks) the germans had 5 tanks which were all inferior.

That'd be like if the germans had invaded russia with 2600 Tigers in their ranks in '41... Imagine how that war would have gone. So while the russians had few of those tanks compared to their total number of tanks, it was still quite alot compared to the germans.

Second, if the RKKA, (it was not yet called the Red Army) was poised to attack Germany, why were they spread out all along the border? The Soviet tactical doctrine of the time was Deep Battle, that called for concentration of troops.

Again, the army wasn't standing there on the border waiting to attack. But they were gearing up for an attack.

Third, if USSR was poised to attack Germany, how come the whole army and air force was is such a bloody shambles that they could hardly carry out defensive operations?

Because they were not ready for an attack? Even IF the army was poised to attack germany on the 23rd, they would still have been completely unprepared for defending on the 22nd.

Four, if Stalin was ready for war, how come he went out of his way not to provoke Germany, to the extent that he forbade the Soviet air force to engage German reconnaissance planes?

Because he wasn't ready for war. He was PREPARING for war. Big difference. And he was not going to provoke germany into attacking before he was ready.

He was very happy letting the germans fight in the west instead until he was good and read to attack.

But let's pose some of the questions that he brought up in the video, just for fun.

IF the russians were not going to attack, and just defend, why did they need to develop amphibious tanks?

If the russians were not going to attack, but just defend, why would they put their airbases so close to the front lines?

If the russians weren't preparing to go to war with germany, why were they up-arming their tank force with tanks to specifically match or beat the germans? The japanese and other soviet border states certainly didn't have tanks that were much better than the T-26 and BT-7.

If they were preparing to only defend, why have tanks that were clearly developed for attack ?

  5. Well, apparantly the whole "won't move into houses" bug is slowing everything down to a grind...

We were supposed to have the first CMRT patch long ago, and they were supposed to move on to other things.

But since this isn't a huge corporation with many coders, they will be immensely slowed down by a persistant bug like this.

So basically, it's all down to that one bug it would seem.

  6. I'm engaged in a discussion about this on another forum right now and it's hard to find material about it.

Wikipedia (yeah, not the most reliable of sources) states this: "This type of munition was also designated as APBC (Armor Piercing Ballistic Capped), in reference to the Soviet version of APCBC"

And I've also heard the notion that the russian APBC shells had a flat head which acted like an APC shell.

    Anybody care to enlighten me?

(oh and I'm leaving out the HE bit in the abbreviations since it has no bearing on the subject)

  7. Heh, I was still pretty impressed by the tiger and panther when CMRT came out (having somehow forgotten the lessons learned in CMBB) but those impressions were quickly shattered by the russians when they faced the IS tanks, T-34/85's and SU's...

So I get why it's easy to fall into the myth of the panzer, but to completely ignore logical things like "shooting a tank in the engine from the side over and over will not kill the crew" is just mind-boggling...

Also, someone is arguing that it's not fair to put the Tiger up against the IS-2... because the Tiger in the game is of the H1 model...

As if it would make a difference if it was the E model :/

  8. Yeah. The only reason I even engage with them is because they are (quite successfully) spreading the myth of "russian bias" in that game.

The game is bugged (it's still beta) and there are problems with the damage models, everyone knows this and the devs even admit to it.

    But here's the problem:

People shoot at a russian tank and get a penetrating hit that does no damage... RUSSIAN BIAS!

People shoot at a german tank and get a penetrating hit that does no damage... working as intended, german tanks were notoriously hard to destroy... or some other excuse...

The best part about it is that everyone has to have the same forum name as they have in-game so you can easily check their stats and such...

And the most fanatical defenders of this "russian bias" myth have usually never even played with a single russian tank in the game.

How the heck can anyone argue that the game is biased when they've only tried one side?

    Anyway... still venting :P
