1. Having made a study of nearly all sorts of means to unbog armor, I can state in near certainty: 1. Immobilized is immobilized. It's a pillbox. (There is provision for repair of vehicles in Operations, not half-hour battles.) 2. Attempts at ramming, pushing, moving an immobilized vehicle in general are a waste of time ... and usually exposes more armor to enemy fire. If there is a way around the stuck vehicle, the AI will take it. Incidents of one vehicle pushing another have been documented but these usually are in situations where there is no other alternative, i.e. narrow streets, vehicle stuck on a bridge, and the immobile vehicle is an obstacle. The generally accepted rationale for the AI not pushing another vehicle--bogged or immobile--is that such a maneuver is risky because the "good" tank may become bogged itself or do damage (transmissions and other mechanical stuff) to itself and thus become stuck. The TC (AI) knows this and will not willingly put the "good" tank in jeopardy without a very good reason. 3. Sometimes a bogged vehicle will unbog itself ... keep an eye on its status. I have been told that the crew will try continually to unbog the vehicle. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. 4. Try reverse. As has been stated it sometimes works. just my 2 cents. ------------------ "Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?" — Oddball "Crap." — Moriarty [This message has been edited by Moriarty (edited 09-02-2000).] [This message has been edited by Moriarty (edited 09-02-2000).] [This message has been edited by Moriarty (edited 09-02-2000).]

 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Gentleman: Is it safe to come out yet?

Gentleman, it is always safe to come out ... sometimes you just gotta duck before you do it. Some on the board are quite learned in military technology, OOBs, minutiae and other assorted bric-a-brac and they have strong opinions, as I'm sure you have noticed. This adds greatly to the quality of responses on the board but these also occasionally bring strong feelings with them. Distill the useful; ignore the rest. ------------------ "Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?" — Oddball "Crap." — Moriarty
 4. I think it's important to be clear with your opponent at the outset whether you're playing a relatively accurate scenario from a historical perspective, thus limiting the number and type of armor, or you both just want to let the big dogs duke it out for fun, in which case you both buy what you can afford and go at it. ------------------ "Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?" — Oddball "Crap." — Moriarty

 12. Well, until the various levels of prancing are included in the game ... probably a very important addition to CM2 as the Russians are well known prancers ... I'll stick to tried and true methods. In general, unless there is an obvious reason/expectation to warrant sneaking, I'll stay in "Move." It's less tiring, a bit faster and the troops don't always give their positions away by opening fire as they usually do in "Sneak." edited because I didn't know my their from there to they're. ------------------ "Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?" — Oddball "Crap." — Moriarty [This message has been edited by Moriarty (edited 08-11-2000).]

 16.
quote:
Originally posted by JOCHEN PEIPER: ALL i was saying is that he seems to like Germans all of a sudden...

Jochen, I can absolutely vouch for the fact that Goanna prefers the Germans when playing CM. We've played a number of games now—more than 5 but less than 50—and he always has opted for the Germans. So that is nothing new. I don't know about the rest but I have found him to be a stand-up guy. Perhaps, as often happens with e-mail or any other electronic messaging, you read something in between the lines that really was not there. Just my 2 cents. ------------------ "Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?" — Oddball "Crap." — Moriarty
 17. Very interesting topic. I must admit to having done a couple of these things, but they were due to my newness to wargaming ... CM beta being the first and greatest. I have to agree with the post that said not everyone is an historian and, therefore, some gaffes, while unintentional, may occur. Best advice, I guess, is to talk with your opponent before the game begins. ------------------ "Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?" — Oddball "Crap." — Moriarty

 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Bullethead: Only target something if it's worth losing the sniper over. Otherwise, just let the AI decide what to shoot at and when to do it. The AI takes into account the likelihood of the sniper being detected, so won't shoot if it thinks it's too dangerous.

This is very good advice. The one time I did actually target a mortar team, the sniper was very effective in taking it out and the team and my opponent never knew where the fire was coming from ... he was hiding in the high bocage. ------------------ "Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?" — Oddball "Crap." — Moriarty
