1. Well except for the St. Louis Blues stuff, you can live another day. Some favorites of mine: Deanco: Interface mods, gunmetal is my favorite. Allied vehicles: Marco Bergman's Stuarts and Shermans are outstanding. As are Tiger's Churchill, Comet, Crommie and Challenger, his latest tank destroyer work; Magua's US halftracks set a new standard; PawBroon's Wasp and Humber SC; Axis vehicles: Tiger's Panther A, VG and VG Late; Tiger's newest Marder II and Wespe (he changed the yellow to gray and it looks great); Kitty's King Tiger; Tiger's StuGs (gray, my favority; but brown with foliage for change of pace) and Fernando came out with a nice camo StuG, too; there's a sweet PzIIL (I think it's Tiger's); Fernando's German HTs, all of 'em; Mike Duplessis' camo Hetzer w/foliage. A couple of guys have reworked the field guns, I believe Tiger did the German guns; and Marco or Fernando did the Allied. Just start hitting the links and sooner or later you'll find what you're looking for.
 2. Lorak, scribe thusly: The gamey, high-point, long-narrow-map generatin' sumnabatchin, did I say gamey, FJ gerbil dug in, cheesy arty an' AA gun usin', gamey, smarmy, skulduggerous, pettifoggin', bastarrd Blousemouse has wrought a tactical victory against my stubborn but slow Brits. Gah!.

Just a few beats of your leathery wings will propel us on our way to a pointless, grasping, gasping, clutching demise. Thanks, ever so...

As a way to get the hate off to a clean start, you might consider splitting up the choices for the parameters of the battle. Allies picks type of engagement, weather and month/year of battle. Axis picks VL or no VL, ground conditions, time of day. Berli and Bauhaus just did this with amusing results. Just a suggestion
 4. Had an HMC whack a KT. One of the happiest moments of my CM life.

 8. While complaining to my opponent about the ineffectiveness of the 37mm gun on the H-39, I was reminded by him that the M-79 grenade is a 37mm shell. Think of one of those coming through the firing slit and banging around in a closed room. You've also got to consider that the 2 or 3 MGs on that tin (the Stewart) can make life miserable for the pillbox crew.
 9. It is indeed Tiger's. It's also my favorite StuG camo pattern.

 13. Welcome. Rest assured the CM Borg will be by shortly to make the assimiliation complete.
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Fred: Moriarty, thanks for you offer. Try to beat me in my new axis campaign, that will be available soon. Fred

Never played a campaign, but you're on. E-mail me whenever you're ready.

 16. That would be the church where the Most Foul Rev. Berlichtingen is vicar.
 17. Roight, a bit of an update then. Seniletea is trying to win by having my guys freeze to death in the snow waiting for him to attack. He's using the 3 Churchill plan, which is now down to 2, courtesy of a nicely placed schreck shot. One shot, one kill. Use of cheap onboard arty has paid off but they're mostly dead now. Blousemouse is as gamey as they come, shooting great big cannons at little tiny Wasps and Crommies and such. The map is enormously long and not very wide and there's no way to chase all his gamey Fallschirmgerbils from their little holes in the turns allotted. Berli created another big ol' map with lots of bocage and pillboxes and things that go boom. Note: An 8-inch gun makes big holes and scares people away from their positions. It's a wonderful thing. Goanna, the gamey lizard, is capitalizing on my lousy tactics and will win this one. He wants my valiant gumchewers to charge across open ground into the muzzles of his waiting Fallschirmgerbils. Says he'll meet me half way .... yeah, right. Lorak and I are still mucking about in the foggy night although one of his little recon pukes is about to get a surprise. Babra's UK varmints and my valiant feldgraus are meeting on a field of mud. (Thanks to Mace for purchasing troops). Initial shots have been exchanged and he has lost a joyriding 'Roo. Geier is eviscerating me. Hopeless. AI will be surrendering soon. Pawbroon, the mad Frenchman, and I have embarked on one of the more bizarre tilts I've yet encountered. You expected anything less? 19. Greetings. Something I believe would be useful would be using the existing pause command for on-board mortars. I have done the obligatory search and I am not referring to micro-managing AFV fire or even on-board mortars ... fire 4 rounds, pause, fire 4 rounds. While that may be nifty, it's not what I am getting at. If, for example, you have a reasonable expectation that enemy forces will hit a treeline within LOS about 40 seconds into the next turn, the capability in the order phase to pause 30 seconds before firing would be useful. Those 30 seconds, plus the 6 second command delay would be just about right to hit them as the arrive and presumably pause before moving out. The benefit is that, depending on the mortar you have, you don't squander half to three-fourths of your ammo loadout on empty woods because it opened fire 6 seconds after the turn began.
 20. Some folks avoid choosing the UK TO&E because the rifle squad firepower comes up a bit short when compared to the US rifle squad. Another factor is the lack of squad-level AT capability versus the US squad being equipped with rifle grenades and the Germans with panzerfausts. I've used everything except French to date and do not have a strong preference on the Allied side. Side note: I find the inaccuracy, slow movement and slow RoF of the PIAT to be aggravating (although sloppy bazooka work can get me swearing at the computer screen). And the snail-slow movement of the Vickers MG team is a good reason to buy a Jeep. [ 05-07-2001: Message edited by: Moriarty ]

 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Fred: agreed. But this was only the opinion of a single man. And I will state my opinion, even if some people do not like to hear it. Anyway, have fun. Fred

Fred, I doubt seriously that any in the pool would deny you your opinion, whether they personally agree with it or not. What does tend to raise one's hackles is the contention that the only "true gamers" are the grogs -- specifically those who favor games devoid of repartee -- who have been around since the beginning of CM time. The gamers in the pool are as active as any others around. And most enjoy the quality of the fight, the tactics and the strategy as much or more than whether they win or lose. Further, the banter in the pool is not an attempt to prove that one is smarter than another, it's merely a form of entertainment and camaraderie associated with a truly great game. And, while we poke fun at grognardian threads .... and the flame wars that occasionally develop in them ... we also realize that this game we both enjoy would not be what it is without the contributions of the grogs and their hard-fought battles over the mantel thickness of this and that AFV and myriad other topics. It seems that perhaps much of this is based on on the choice of words moreso than the intended meaning. So, if we agree to disagree about our respective approaches to CM, that would be good. Someday, perchance, we may meet on the CM battlefield, and I believe that would be good, too. [ 05-07-2001: Message edited by: Moriarty ]
