  1. I would think that BTS would have put a unique identifying feature (such as a serial # or some individual line of code) into each copy of the Beta they sent out to the testers and the media, correct? Wouldn't it be very easy to identify the culprit (if there is one) through this piece of ID? This has got me pissed. I don't want to see my pre-order delayed until the thaws of Spring. The ground becomes too soft for my tanks!!!! CrapGame out...
  2. Please tell us this isn't true. We have been waiting impatiently for quite a time now, and I hope someone didn't screw us by trying to let a copy of a beta out into the wild before it was done just to get it out a little sooner. IF it is true, find the little F***KER and do something really heinous to them! I WANT THIS GAME REAL BAD! I do not want the Gold version to be held up BECAUSE SOMEONE COULDN'T RESIST DOING SOMETHING SELFISH AND JUST PLAIN WRONG with a Beta, which causes Steve and Charles to devote their time to finding this rat fink instead of working on CM!!!! Steve and Charles, keep us informed (if you can), and if it is true, MAKE THEM PAY! I apologize for the ranting (started to think I was Madmatt for a second ) CrapGame out...
  3. Col Got to hand it to you - impressive work. Even with no pictures, I was deeply involved with the sounds, trying to picture in my mind what was happening. Fine work. Great mixing of CM with SPR. Looking forward to the final products. CrapGame out...
  4. I have "Up Front" laying around in my house somewheres. I really think Mauldin was a genius. I remember Willie & Joe in their tent with a flashlight and a .45 pointed at a mouse. Said something to the effect of "Get 'em between the eyes Joe. They charge when they're wounded..." Another was one of them Shooting a Jeep with their .45 to "put it out of its misery". I am glad to see many share in his efforts. CrapGame out...
  5. Do these figures have any vehicles other than that 1/2 motorcycle - 1/2 tracked machine? I was thinking of getting a few to decorate the War-Room (a.k.a. - "the office")with something other than just books. Just curious... CrapGame out...
  6. I believe it is firing 2.5 metric tons of ammunition, firing 72 rockets from an ARMORED FORKLIFT, and destroying the better part of a Panzer Division's EQUIPMENT while incredibly notting hitting and injuring a single individual in the ranks. (Due to their amazing accuracy, of course...) CrapGame out...
  7. Due to the havoc inflicted on his supply lines by your friendly neighborhood Jabos, he probably had a 6 month old bratwurst in his pack that could chisel granite... If it'd work on that, what chance do you have with merely a Garand? CrapGame
  8. I have faced this on a couple of occasions. I believe that the halftracks mg is knocked out or out of ammo. Click on it and then hit the enter key. On the screen that pops up should tell you about how much ammo the thing has left. It says something like Machine Gun (13) or something like that. I thought I got the out of range when the crew only has their sidearms left. I got the message on another occasion when I had two halftrack crews in the second floor of a building in last defense firing over the river. They wiped out the remnants of a squad close to the river but got the out ofrange message when I told them to target a mortar that was farther away. CrapGame out...
  9. rune - I know the Alpha role in software testing - I actually had a very small input in the Alpha version of Mosaic - remember that program??? I was referring to the meaning of Alpha in the book "Brave New World" or Alpha Males in the animal world - that is, sort of a jab at the Beta testers due to serious case of CM jealousy on my part. 10. Madmatt, So... you get very nervous when people are around your armor.... Hmmmmmm.... Tell me about your childhood.... Did someone touch your Schwerpunkt when you were younger???
  11. Ahh, several points to make. dumbo, why does this conversation sound odd? I am a CPA who happens to be a history buff. I am not a gun-toting crazyman. If I was, I'd work for the post office. I do not own a gun (other than a couple of paintball markers), and I do not intend on buying one. However, my Panama City experience (similar to the one Mark IV describes in Vegas) makes the experience of games such as CM all the more realistic when you have heard some of the sounds and smelled some of the smells first-hand. That is why I would like to experience the MG42. Berli - Thanks for the tip, but no thanks. Like John H, I would prefer not having to try to kill people nor having people try to kill me. The worst things in my field are being taken off a job or having my boss make me threaten a client with a "Management Comment" - sounds scary, doesn't it? CrapGame out...
  12. Matt, Sorry to hear you feel this way. You take our posts too much to heart. We gripe because it makes the time go faster and our one-track minds happy - not because we feel anger or disrespect towards you in any way shape or form. Most of us Alphas (hate to use "All") understand the situation you Betas are in, and can respect the aspects of the binding contract in force between you and BTS. But can you deny us the simple pleasures of whining like infants? Whining is like the * button on the telephone - it doesn't do anything, but pressing it during those damned automated menus sure makes you feel better Keep up the entertaining and informative work - it is greatly appreciated and respected. CrapGame out... (and getting off the top of the doghouse)
  13. Madmatt, I think you are getting so many comments due to the fact that we Alphas (read: Non-Beta testers)can somewhat relate to the armor battle with respect to the demo having some armor in it (relatively slim pickings, but armor nonetheless), and we can put our clutches around them and hug them and squeeze them and kiss them... (sorry, don't know where that was going) and better yet use them. We have not had the opportunity to touch the all-elusive "Jabo", and your spectacular little morsels that you have given us just make us want to know more. Ahh, each day becomes longer for us Alphas. 14. BTS - Fraoch? I will not even attempt to try and pronounce that one. Heather Ale though, sounds interesting. Perhaps this will require yet another trip to "Beers of the World" also known as "The Awful Place" by the significant other. What else should I expect from a person who drinks Zima!?! CrapGame out... (and in the doghouse, again...)
  15. Ahhh Herr Madmatt, It pains me greatly to see the heroic defenders of the Fatherland suffer so at the hands of the Amis. It appears many soldats have ventured to the hallowed halls of Valhalla to join their comrades. But damn you it just makes us everyday lackeys want this game more!!!! How are we supposed to go to work when all we can think about now is what column formations will work best to defend against the deadly Jabos? In the end of your article, you noted more logical formations against Jabos. Any hints for us non-testers in the audience?? Thanks for the entertainment - it keeps us going. CrapGame out... 16. BTS, I have to ask - Where can you get to fire a belt-fed Machine Gun??? I thought I was in heaven in Panama City FL, when a couple of friends and I rented Uzi's and a couple clips of ammo a piece. Best $$$ I spent on that Spring Break. The cash went quickly, but at least shooting that afternoon didn't make me want to throw up the next morning when I looked next to me at what I slept with that night CrapGame out... 17. I have yet to see smoke used by the AI, either for my side (Tac AI) or used by the enemy - does it happen frequently? I was surprised when last night I was playing Last Defense, and my Tiger calmly sat back and toyed with the HellKittens as it eliminated all three in turn. I thought for sure that at least the third one would have popped some smoke after seeing the 1st two buy it at long distance. Do infantry teams have it?? On another note, in the game last night, my Tiger was charged by a Mortar team (who still had their mortar) - it was a riot! My tiger had just crossed the bridge and veered to the left side of the road. It started to head up the hill when a hidden Mortar team popped up and ran straight to their deaths. I guess that was enough to make the rest of the Americans surrender. Absolutely incredible game. CrapGame out... (in the doghouse again)
  18. Steve of BTS, Havings a pint of Tennents (sp?) today are we? Or are we imbibing another Scottish variety? And I personally think that nothing harmonizes with an MG42 quite like Nine Inch Nails' 'Head Like a Hole' - sort of like a dark version of Handel's Messiah. It really gets the blood flowing. CrapGame out... (and in the doghouse again)
  19. While playing Last Defense last night, I couldn't kill the damn M1919 gunner in the second floor of the building to the right of the intersection (while facing the Americans) with direct fire from two StuGs and the Tiger. A close assault finally made them surrender. They were then killed by an overwatching MG42 as they tried to unsurrender to my 105mm observer. Oh well. CrapGame out... (and in the doghouse)
  20. Well last night I played Last Defense as the Axis, and for the first time, left the tiger where it was for the setup. I sat it there until turn 10, when it proceeded to smoke two Kittens in turn 10, and the next in turn 11, while watching at least 8-10 ricochets and broken up shells hit the front hull and turret. Fearsome weapon at that range! And it's not even the long barreled version! Gimme my Konigstiger!!! CrapGame out... (and in the doghouse again)
  21. It's always fun to have the Zoo on your side versus some washed up US Generals ! However, with CM, it is now fun to take those Ronsons and become a lion-tamer. It is an entirely different experience to play one side and then the other in a battle, because you have to try entirely different strategies to utilize the advantages of the resources you are given. Plus, as hinted by my screen name, Kelly, Big Joe, Oddball and I couldn't always use Tigers.... CrapGame out...
  22. Ahh Punkrawk, I feel your pain. I started with a 133 mhz machine, 80 megs of memory and a 2 meg non-3d video card. I couldn't even scroll across the map. I had to guess a lot of s**t, and it took forever to process turns. I think my frame rate was something like 5 minutes per frame (not frames per minute), and I can't even count the number of dropped frames there must have been. But, I shelled out 100 clams at the local Wallyworld-Mart for the 16mb Voodoo 3d card, and (although it's still slow as hell) it is a whole new world. I can finally see the incoming shells and stuff like that. It's incredible. Can't wait for the gold version and june to come around to buy the new 1000mhz athlon or pentium system. And the wife thought I didn't pay enough attention to her now.... CrapGame out (in the doghouse)
  23. You can play it on that machine. I am running it on my machine which is also a 133 mhz. I spent $100 and bought a Voodoo3 16 mb videocard. The processing is very sssslllloooowwwww, and the turns take q while to be resolved, but the end result is fantastic. I am just waiting for june to come around for the 1000 mhz chips to roll out before I buy my new one. CrapGame out
  24. All this talk of scenarios and new weapons and other new included features that many people have access to as "testers" really incites a high factor of jealousy here. Many of us without this access are still playing last defense for the 112th time (and still enjoying it, I must add ) without these features. This is making the wait for the real thing all the more difficult. Damn you! Curse You!
